    Democrats Unveil "Internet Bill of Rights" - Utter Garbage

    Democrats unveil "Internet Bill of Rights": transparency, privacy, control, notification, Net Neutrality, competition, accountability

    (Thread Title truncated due to length)

    The Democrats' newly unveiled "Internet Bill of Rights" enumerates ten rights that the party says it will enshrine in law, ranging from Net Neutrality to data portability to timely notification of breaches to opt-in for data collection, the right to see the data held on you by surveillance capitalists, rights to privacy and to be free from surveillance-driven discrimination, pro-competitive measures and so forth.

    The Bill was drafted by Silicon Valley Congressman Ro Khanna, who has real bona fides as a progressive Democrat, unafraid to call out the party establishment.

    But as Kara Swisher points out in the New York Times, the devil is in the details: as statements of principle, the Internet Bill of Rights is an admirable document. Its implementation in law, however, will require enormous care to prevent both loopholes and overreach (see, for example, how a well-intentioned California anti-bot bill posed real free expression risks until it was called out and cleaned up by the Electronic Frontier Foundation).

    Below, I have reproduced the Bill in full.

    Set of Principles for an Internet Bill of Rights

    The internet age and digital revolution have changed Americans’ way of life. As our lives and the U.S. economy are more tied to the internet, it is essential to provide Americans with basic protections online.

    You should have the right:

    (1) to have access to and knowledge of all collection and uses of personal data by companies;

    (2) to opt-in consent to the collection of personal data by any party and to the sharing of personal data with a third party;

    (3) where context appropriate and with a fair process, to obtain, correct or delete personal data controlled by any company and to have those requests honored by third parties;

    (4) to have personal data secured and to be notified in a timely manner when a security breach or unauthorized access of personal data is discovered;

    (5) to move all personal data from one network to the next;

    (6) to access and use the internet without internet service providers blocking, throttling, engaging in paid prioritization or otherwise unfairly favoring content, applications, services or devices;

    (7) to internet service without the collection of data that is unnecessary for providing the requested service absent opt-in consent;

    (8) to have access to multiple viable, affordable internet platforms, services and providers with clear and transparent pricing;

    (9) not to be unfairly discriminated against or exploited based on your personal data; and

    (10) to have an entity that collects your personal data have reasonable business practices and accountability to protect your privacy.

    So here is the way I read it:

    • You have the Right to be aware you are under Constant and Total Observation.
    • You have the Right to know that others are mishandling data about you.
    • You have the Right to submit to THEIR Terms of Service.
    • You have the Right to be told when that data about you is compromised.
    • You have the Right to be told that data about you is being collected with or without your consent.
    • You have the Right to generate data for multiple sources, not just one.
    • You have the Right to choose who you give money to.
    • You have the Right to not be discriminated against if you are LGBTBBQ or whatever fruity flavor you are.

    What is NOT said is EQUALLY important.

    • You do NOT have the Right to Privacy
    • You do NOT have the Right to refuse Data Collection
    • You do NOT have the Right to resist Discrimination when it is deemed "Fair Discrimination"
    • You do NOT have the Right to Correct inaccurate information
    • You do NOT have the Right to have Self Authority over the way Data is used
    • You do NOT have the Right to protect yourself from Data Collection
    • You do NOT have the Right to NOT be treated as The Product
    • You do NOT have the Right to be Compensated for Data Collection
    • You do NOT have the Right to Individual Thought
    • You do NOT have the Right to Self Authority
    • You do NOT have the Right to a Court of Law
    • You do NOT have the Right to Face Your Accusers
    • You do NOT have the Right to Remain Silent
    • You do NOT have the Right to Consume Silently
    • You do NOT have the Right to LISTEN
    • You do NOT have the Right a Fair and Speedy Trial
    • You do NOT have the Right a Jury of your Peers
    • You do NOT have the Right to be deemed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in Court
    • You do NOT have the Right to be FREE

    Every single line of their supposed Internet Bill of Rights is a set of Rights for the Corporations, Algorithms, Data Harvesters and Collectors, and those who use your Data against you because they deem it to be Fair to tell you what to think by manipulating data YOU request to exclude information that goes against what information they think you should be getting.

    Data Collection = Invasion of Privacy

    Anything you say can, and WILL be used AGAINST you. There are no longer Courts to issue a ruling of what is to YOUR advantage to learn, and ONLY what benefits THEM to tell YOU what to think. They will NEVER teach you HOW to think.

    Information has become a Prison for your mind. If it isnt on Google, it does not exist. That really is the way the human mind works. If you cant find a reference to some data, then it never happened. Everything is Biased. Everything supports the Status Quo. The True Wisdom of the Human Race is to learn about the things that challenge our points of view in its RAW form, and teach us of the dangers of an Unlimited Technocracy and the benefits of Individual Thinking, Freedom, and Liberty.

    The FAILURE of the United States Government to operate and maintain an
    Honest Money System , which frees the ordinary man from the clutches of the money manipulators, is the single largest contributing factor to the World's current Economic Crisis.
