Exclamation Statists in the House of Representatives are trying to pull a trick play

    From an email just received...

Statists in the House of Representatives are trying to pull a trick play to expand the Deep State’s warrantless surveillance powers.

The House of Representatives is scheming to ram through H.R. 6729, a bill that purports to fight human trafficking, but that merely disguises its real purpose.

The bill actually expands warrantless surveillance and data collection powers first authorized by the so-called “PATRIOT” Act.

First introduced in September, with only five cosponsors, the bill was fast-tracked through the House Financial Services Committee and scheduled for a vote under Suspension of the Rules while everyone’s attention is on other matters in Washington, D.C.

That’s why it’s absolutely vital you contact your representative through the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121 or find their contact info directly here.

Urge your representative to vote NO on H.R. 6729, and any other bill that would expand the Deep State’s warrantless surveillance power and invite further abuses of our civil liberties.

This unconstitutional assault on our rights must be stopped in its tracks!

Listen to how the House Liberty Caucus described abuses of Section 314 of the “PATRIOT” Act:

“The Department of the Treasury has decided that it can, without a warrant or other legal process, force tens of thousands of companies to search their records on law enforcement’s behalf and hand over information on their customers’ accounts and transactions.”

While Section 314 is currently limited to terrorism and money-laundering investigations, the Treasury has repeatedly sought to expand the law to include other crimes.

    That’s where H.R. 6729 comes in. . .

    As the Liberty Caucus warns:

“H.R. 6729 copies language from Section 314 and applies it to whole new categories of information, broadening the range of customers’ personal information that the government may unilaterally demand without probably cause or warrant.
    ...
“Like Section 314, H.R. 6729 also provides legal immunity for those who participate in the Treasury’s data-sharing programs, including nonprofits, law enforcement, and financial institutions (which ... can include a broad range of other entities, such as travel agencies, jewelers, car dealers, and other companies designated by the Treasury).”

“But Dr. Paul, how does this affect me?” you might ask.

Aside from the obvious and troubling continued assault on Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights to be “secure ... against unreasonable searches and seizures,” H.R. 6729 poses significant risks for due process violations.

    As the Liberty Caucus explains:

“If a nonprofit shares an accusation with financial institutions through the process created under H.R. 6729, banks may choose to close that person’s accounts, without process or explanation ... effectively blocking the individual from the financial system.”

Such unchecked power to freeze Americans out of a key aspect of our nations’ economy should stir each and every one of us to action.

Nearly 17 years after the passage of the original “PATRIOT” Act, Congress should be winding down the Surveillance State, not expanding it!

So please don’t delay, contact your representative through the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121 or find their contact info directly here.

Once you’ve called, please consider making a generous contribution of $25, $50, $100, or even $250, or $500 to help Campaign for Liberty turn up the heat to stop this scheme to expand the surveillance state in its tracks!

    For Liberty,

    Ron Paul

"We have set them on the hobby-horse of an idea about the absorption of individuality by the symbolic unit of COLLECTIVISM. They have never yet and they never will have the sense to reflect that this hobby-horse is a manifest violation of the most important law of nature, which has established from the very creation of the world one unit unlike another and precisely for the purpose of instituting individuality."- A Quote From Some Old Book
