Swordsmyth supports tariffs because they cause division and chaos between countries. Tariffs are not free market capitalism- they are crony protectionism.
http://www.ronpaulinstitute.org/arch...ot-the-answer/
Tariffs raise the price of, and reduce demand for, imported goods. Tariffs ensure the preferences of politicians, instead of the preferences of consumers, to determine how resources are allocated. This reduces economic efficiency and living standards.
Some justify these economic inefficiencies as being worth it to save American jobs. This ignores how tariffs increase costs of production for industries reliant on imported materials to produce their products. These increased costs lead to job losses in those industries. For example, President Trump’s proposed steel tariff could cost nearly 40,000 jobs in the steel-dependent auto manufacturing industry. Tariffs also cause job losses in industries reliant on exports. This is especially true if — as is likely to be the case — other countries respond to President Trump’s actions by increasing tariffs on US products.
We had tariff reducing or even eliminating treaties either in effect or nearly finished that Trump walked away from. TPP for example would have eliminated about 97% of tariffs between the US and the EU. Threatening countries makes them more likely to resist than work with you. Also walking away from treaties makes them less willing to enter any new ones with you. Trump strategies are counter-productive to their stated goals. TTIP would have reduced tariffs with China and increased protections for intellectual property- goals he says he wants. He walked away from that one as well.

Get ready for the next round of tariffs. They are now ready to go on another $200 billion worth of imported goods.
Trump Wants $200 Billion in China Tariffs Despite Talks, Sources Say
President Donald Trump instructed aides on Thursday to proceed with tariffs on about $200 billion more in Chinese products despite his Treasury secretary’s attempt to restart talks with Beijing to resolve the trade war, according to four people familiar with the matter.
But an announcement of the new round of tariffs has been delayed as the administration considers revisions based on concerns raised in public comments, the people said. Trump may be running low on products he can target without significant backlash from major U.S. companies and consumers, two of the people said.
The threat of fresh tariffs roiled financial markets. U.S. stocks erased gains, dropping to session lows, while the dollar strengthened versus the Chinese offshore yuan by the most in two weeks. Technology shares led declines, with Apple Inc. falling as much as 1.7 percent. The iPhone maker last week warned that new tariffs could increase the cost of its products.
The White House didn’t immediately comment.Trump was asked during the meeting whether he was concerned about the impact of the new tariffs on negotiations with China. He responded that he wasn’t, two of the people said. Before his meeting on Thursday, which didn’t appear on his public calendar, Trump boasted on Twitter that he has the upper hand in the trade feud with Beijing and feels “no pressure” to resolve the dispute.More at link.Apple said last week the $200 billion round of tariffs could hit some of its most popular goods such as the Apple Watch and AirPods headphones. Retailers such as WalMart Inc. and Target Corp. risk being swept up in an escalating trade war if further tariffs hit a broad range of consumer goods, from TVs to sneakers.
Efforts to end the trade dispute have fizzled so far. Officials from both countries have met four times for formal talks, most recently in August, when Treasury’s undersecretary for international affairs, David Malpass, led discussions in Washington with Chinese Vice Minister Wang Shouwen.

I support tariffs for the reasons I give for supporting them, because they are the best form of taxation and the only way to negotiate a fair deal with the countries that have been making trade war against us and they also protect strategic industries to keep us from being dependent on hostile foreigners for our necessities.

Tariff War Won’t Solve US Trade Deficit – China’s Ministry of Commerce
https://sputniknews.com/business/201...trade-deficit/
...despite the trade wars, Beijing's trade surplus with the United States widened by 7.7 percent (about $181 billion) in the first eight months of 2018.
China's exports to the United States increased by 6.5 per cent
Awesome. That's a hella lot of tariff cash. Needs to go higher.
If only I could write Trumps speeches...
"You know, I've had to lower some of our EPA standards. And I have, right. Just to make us great again. So that we produce. And I've done that. Bigly. Have you heard about it? The low unemployment? The rising wages? The fact that black entrepreneurship has exploded? Probably, not. Fake news won't tell you.
They also won't tell you that it's China that is causing the hurricanes that ravage our coasts. That cause the forest fires.
China doesn't have an EPA. They just do what they want. They don't care about the rest of the world and they sure don't care about Americans. Am I right? Of course I'm right.
Until China adopts every single one of our EPA standards and allows us to monitor them I am imposing a 50% tariff on all their products that harm us all so badly."
Boooom, baby. Someone get me to Washington.

No it's based on a history of your posts. You check all the boxes.
-Frequently criticize the republican party while never criticize the democratic party.
-Think tariffs are just as bad as progressive taxation.
-Got pissed off at the idea that tax cuts for the rich are not the same as giving money to the rich. Argued that tax cuts for the rich adds to the deficit (spending is what adds to the deficit).
-Claimed that the economy was good under Obama and that there won't be any negative consequences from borrowing 10 trillion, printing 4 trillion and keeping rates at 0% for 8 years.
-Claimed the stock market rise under Obama was not related to the trillions in stimulus.
-Wasn't worried about the economy under Obama but now is worried it's a bubble.
-Mock Peter Schiff (a Ron Paul advocate with almost identical views).
-Argued that the US was not free because we had slavery.
-Evade simple questions like "Are you against the minimum wage?" or "Are you against discrimination laws?"
-In favor of unrestricted democracy. Against any sort of limits on voting privileges like limiting welfare recipients.
