Arctic sea ice thicker now than in 1955

According to a new paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research, the observed mean thickness of the sea ice in the region north of (Arctic) Svalbard was substantially thinner (0.94 m) in 1955 than it has been in recent years (~1.6 m, 2015/2017). Probably won’t see this in the lame stream media.

So in one year in the last 50 years it was thinner?

Just going by what their chart says. Of the dates listed, only 1955 is thinner than their latest reported measurements.

No data between 55-74. You can also look at snow depth.

So they really don't have enough data to be able to say anything about long term trends (in geologic terms, 50 years is the blink of an eye).

Or were those years deliberately left off because the did not fit the narrative?

We aren't in a different range than we were 50 years ago.

At one dot on a map. Not enough info to say if the global climate has been changing or not.

They only have figures for 1955 then jump to the 1970's and then to 2015. Huge gaps. Was 1955 an unusually warm or mild winter? Why so many missing years?
