Although NK's dictator visited China again, media's "Trump got played" narrative is overblown

There is also no proof that yesterday's new China tariffs were announced because NK's supreme leader KJU visited China instead of calling Trump following their historic summit, although possible these were also meant to send a message to NK/China to not play Trump.
Incidentally Dennis Rodman is being treated as a rock star when he was hosted by MSNBC's Megyn Kelly today.

The past 24 hours in startling North Korea news, explained

The US made a big military concession, and Kim made a dramatic diplomatic trip to China — again.

By Alex Ward Jun 19, 2018, 12:00pm EDT

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un just had a great 24 hours.

President Donald Trump continues to tout the success of his North Korea summit last week — but it’s Kim Jong Un who’s taking the real victory lap.
On Tuesday morning, the North Korean leader made his third trip to China in as many months to meet with President Xi Jinping. Xi used the opportunity to praise Kim and say that the summit was an “important step toward the political solution of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.”
And just the night before, the Pentagon announced that it would cancel a key military exercise with South Korea in August. That’s a big deal since that’s a significant concession the North Koreans have wanted for a long time. After all, they see these exercises as prep for an invasion and have protested against them every time they occur.
So in just the past 24 hours, it seems that the relationship between Washington and Seoul took a slight hit while Beijing-Pyongyang ties got a little stronger. This may all be in service of a potential deal to curb North Korea’s nuclear weapons program — but until that happens, it sure does look like Kim is making out like a bandit from the summit.

Please stop reading this kind of nonsense, it isn't good for your brain.

The new tariffs show that Trump doesn't need China to help with N Korea anymore.

While true that media has its biases, but if China continued to open borders/increase trade with NK before sanctions are lifted, that won't impact NK's motivation to give up its nukes - the key objective of Kim-Trump historic summit?

Maybe Trump doesn't need their help with the stick now that he has sold Kim on the carrot.

North Korea Slams `Cancerous' U.S. Demands at Nuclear Talks

    • Foreign ministry statement comes hours after Pompeo departs
    • Secretary of state said negotiations done in ‘good faith’

The U.S. and North Korea sharply diverged after two days of talks, with Pyongyang terming the U.S. position on denuclearization during meetings with Mike Pompeo “extremely regrettable,” hours after the secretary of state cited progress on central issues.
A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman, in a statement reported by the state media outlet Korea Central News Agency, said Pompeo had put forward the same “cancerous” demands that past administrations had sought.
Trust between the two sides was now at a “dangerous stage” that could lead the country to falter in its commitment to give up nuclear weapons, KCNA said -- adding that North Korea still trusts President Donald Trump.

In reality, they probably only trust Dennis Rodman.

While there is no proof that they are using TV comedy show Office negotiation tactic #14 (massage opponent's ego before stabbing them) or they have read 'art of the dealer' but to be fair Trump also praised China's Prez has a 'great man' and 'a friend' just before he unleashed massive tariffs that have caused China's markets to fall by almost 30% so far.

Do you think NK's is atacking Trump's Sec of State while massaging his ego to 'divide and conquer' or is implying that Sec of State Pompeo is a rogue agent acting against Trump's direction?

It is certainly possible that it is some kind of negotiation tactic but that would just show that they are still interested in negotiation.

North Korean officials a no-show for meeting about U.S. troop remains

    by Adam Taylor July 12

SEOUL — North Korean officials did not turn up to a Thursday meeting with the U.S. military about repatriating the remains of the war dead, according to a U.S. official with knowledge of the situation.
The two sides had been expected to meet at the Korean Peninsula’s demilitarized zone and discuss the return of U.S. troop remains from the 1950-1953 war — an arrangement that the State Department had announced after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Pyongyang last Friday and Saturday.

Kim Jong-un Blew Off Mike Pompeo to Visit a Potato Farm

When Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Pyongyang last weekend, he was supposed to have a one-on-one meeting with Kim Jong-un. But the North Korean leader never showed up during Pompeo’s three-day visit. His top deputy, who took the meeting in Kim’s absence, said his boss was out of town without revealing what was more important than a sit-down with the top U.S. diplomat.
Turns out, potatoes were more important. On Tuesday, North Korean state media published several reports about Kim’s visit to a rural area near the Chinese border where he provided “field guidance” to potato farmers.

Fwiw, Chinese and associated asian cultures are known to send messages like this without meaning any of it or having any intention to follow up on it. In negotiations they're very respectful and complimentary and all that but are always looking for an advantage, which may include buttering you up before they dick you over (if you let them). There are no emotions in negotiations.

    REUTERS/Kim Kyung-Hoo

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff say North Korea launched a number of short-range missiles from the Hodo Penninsula into the Sea of Japan early Saturday morning local time, according to the BBC. The test launch is the first since Pyongyang tested an intercontinental ballistic missile in November 2017. It is also the first test since U.S. President Donald Trump walked out of a summit in Vietnam earlier this year. Last month, North Korea announced that it had tested a yet-unidentified “tactical guided weapon.”
