GOP Immigration Deal: Potentially ‘Biggest’ Amnesty in U.S. History

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...n-u-s-history/

    13 Jun 2018

A leaked draft of House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) amnesty deal could lead to the “biggest” amnesty for illegal aliens in United States history, experts tell Breitbart News.

Ryan’s immigration deal would go beyond giving amnesty to only the nearly 800,000 illegal aliens who are enrolled in the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

According to a leaked draft of the amnesty deal, obtained by Breitbart News, Ryan’s plan would allow the entire “DACA population” to be eligible for amnesty so long as they meet low educational, work and criminal requirements, prompting the amnesty to explode in size.

That DACA population could include the nearly 3.5 million DACA-enrolled and DACA-eligible illegal aliens, and even more illegal aliens who arrive in the U.S. to fraudulently obtain the amnesty.

NumbersUSA Governmental Affairs Director Rosemary Jenks told Breitbart News that Ryan’s amnesty will — at the least — allow 1.8 million illegal aliens to stay in the U.S.

“This has the potential to turn into the biggest amnesty we’ve ever had,” Jenks said.

The leaked amnesty deal reveals that Ryan and the Republican establishment may even be considering going beyond giving amnesty to DACA illegal aliens.

A second amnesty is included in the leaked draft, one that would allow the children of temporary foreign guest workers and “anyone who has a ‘contingent nonimmigrant status'” to apply for the amnesty.

This amnesty for the children of temporary foreign workers does not have a numerical cap, allowing for an endless amount of foreign nationals to obtain amnesty through this avenue known as “Pathway Concept B.”

“The winners are the DREAMers cause they get their amnesty, Democrats because they don’t have to concede much to get the amnesty and donor-class Republicans who are interested in perpetuating the current system,” Center for Immigration Studies Director of Policy Jessica Vaughan told Breitbart News of Ryan’s leaked amnesty deal.

Unknown are the numbers of illegal aliens who will surge the United States-Mexico border at the enactment of such an amnesty plan.

Previously, Kansas Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach told Breitbart News that a DACA amnesty — even one smaller than this amnesty plan — would potentially cause a surge of one million illegal immigrants rushing the southern border.

Kobach told Breitbart News that Ryan’s leaked amnesty plan is a “nightmare” for Americans.

“The draft amnesty for the DREAMers is a nightmare for the American people. It is not limited to the 700,000 known DACA recipients,” Kobach said. “Instead, it appears to encompass an unlimited number of people, many of whom will claim fraudulently that they meet the minimal requirements to receive the amnesty.”

As Breitbart News reported, the Republican establishment and White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short are attempting to stampede President Trump into the amnesty deal by pushing it through the House and Senate quickly, much like the trillion dollar omnibus spending bill – which did not fund the president’s border wall.

    End Trump's Sanctuary Nation USA

It's about time that scofflaw President Trump quit running Sanctuary USA, and deport all the illegal aliens. DACA eligibility or registration leads to deportation, is the message that the invading hordes need to hear. .

No DACA "fix", aka amnesty. We haven't tried enforcing the immigrations laws and deporting illegal aliens yet, let's give that a try.

House GOP leaders sent a 293-page immigration bill to their members on Thursday designed to bridge the substantial divide between the centrist reformers and conservative immigration hawks in their conference.
Early reactions suggest the bill is unlikely to do so, with members of both the far-right Freedom Caucus and conservative Republican Study Committee telling The Hill they planned to vote no on the compromise.
Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), a Freedom member and immigration hard-liner facing a competitive reelection battle, described the compromise effort as “hasty political maneuvers pasted together at the last minute.”“We gotta go back and talk to our constituents. When they hear about this deal, it'll be a no. They won't be happy,” Brat told The Hill.

Rep. Carlos Curbelo, a reform-minded Florida Republican who’s been at the center of the GOP negotiations, said he’ll seek changes.

“We're still reviewing it and there are some areas where we're looking to make some changes, so not ready to make a final decision yet,” Curbelo said.
Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.), who heads the Republican Study Committee (RSC), suggested he’ll also fight for amendments.
“I don't think it's arrived quite yet,” he said.
Further reducing the bill’s odds, Heritage Action, an influential conservative group, is urging lawmakers to oppose the package, citing the Dreamer benefits.
“While lawmakers fighting to build a national consensus for an immigration policy that works for hundreds of millions of Americans deserve credit, those changes cannot be predicated on codification of amnesty,” said Tim Chapman, the group’s executive director.

I don`t like to get involved with the Federal Government very much, but I do think it is a federal responsibility to protect our borders....And that`s why I don`t think our border guards should be sent to Iraq, like we`ve done. Give illegals limbo status: a green card with an asterisk

Immigrants who can't be sent back due to the magnitude of the problem should not be given citizenship--no amnesty should be granted. Maybe a "green card" with an asterisk could be issued. This in-between status, keeping illegal immigrants in limbo, will be said that it will create a class of 2nd-class citizens. Yet it could be argued that it may well allow some immigrants who come here illegally a beneficial status without automatic citizenship--a much better option than deportation.

If economy were good, there’d be no immigration problem

Q: When you ran for president in 1988, you said, “As in our country’s first 150 years, there shouldn’t be any immigration policy at all. We should welcome everyone who wants to come here and work.” You’ve changed your view.

A: And during that campaign I got into trouble with Libertarians because I said there may well be a time when immigration is like an invasion and we have to treat it differently. My approach to immigration is somewhat different than the others. Mine is you deal with it economically We’re in worse shape now because we subsidize immigration. We give food stamps, Social Security, free medical care, free education and amnesty. So you subsidize it, and you have a mess. Conditions have changed. And I think this means that we should look at immigration differently. It’s an economic issue more than anything. If our economy was in good health, I don’t think there’d be an immigration problem. We’d be looking for workers and we would be very generous.

House won't take on immigration without Trump's support, after Trump expresses doubts

A leading House Republican says the chamber won't tackle immigration legislation unless President Trump supports it.

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-North Carolina, is the House GOP's second-ranking vote counter. He made the comment Friday after Mr. Trump told reporters that he won't sign a "moderate" bill.

McHenry said GOP leadership will wait for "clarity" from the president on the compromise immigration bill, and whip the bill next week.

"House Republicans are not going to take on immigration without the support and endorsement of President Trump," he said.

Republicans planned votes next week on a hard-right immigration measure and a middle-ground package negotiated between the party's moderate and conservative wings.

Many have viewed Mr. Trump's support as crucial if the compromise measure is to pass. The conservative alternative is considered to have no chance of passage.

Both bills have stringent border security provisions. Only the compromise measure offers a chance at citizenship for young immigrants who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children.

Mr. Trump told reporters Friday he's looking at both plans. But, he said, "I certainly wouldn't sign the more moderate one."

He also says he needs money to build a wall with Mexico. Both bills have that.

Approaching controversial, comprehensive legislation is generally considered extremely difficult, or undesirable, in an election year, and Republicans are vulnerable in the House this November.

Jobs market: Labor shortage means longer hours but more cash for workers

In an ever-tightening labor market, many employers are following a simple credo: If you can’t find enough workers, give the ones you have more work.

While worker shortages are frustrating businesses, they’ve quietly provided a financial boon to many full-time employees, who are notching lots of overtime, and part-timers, who are toiling more hours or shifting to full time.

That’s lifting weekly paychecks, and the broader economy, even as average hourly earnings have increased only modestly. Yet some firms are starting to worry about the effects of pushing staffers too hard.

Private-sector workers put in an average 34.5 hours a week for the second consecutive month in December, the busiest such stretch since early 2016, Labor Department figures show.

The trend is more pronounced for production employees in industries such as manufacturing and construction. In November and December, those production workers on average logged the most hours since the final two months of 2014.

And factory-floor workers clocked an average of about 42 hours weekly in the second half of 2017, behind only 2014 as the most work-intensive six-month stretch for that group since 1945.

“There just aren’t enough people to do the job anymore,” says Peter Guarraia, manufacturing practice leader for consulting firm Bain & Co. “And so workers are getting more hours.”

Their weekly overtime averaged a historically high 4.5 hours in October and November as the improving global economy and resurgent oil industry have buoyed manufacturers and the U.S. economy overall.

Workers racked up overtime in 2014 as well. But that was at least partly because many firms were hesitant to hire aggressively on fears that customer demand would not be sustained amid a tepid recovery from the recession of 2007 to 2009, says Bernard Baumohl, chief global economist of the Economic Outlook Group.

This time is different. The nation’s 4.1% unemployment rate is the lowest in 17 years, providing companies fewer available workers even as the economy grew at more than a healthy 3% annual rate in the second and third quarters. In November, there were 378,000 job openings in manufacturing, up from 319,000 a year earlier, and 210,000 in construction, up from 178,000, according to the Labor Department.

In a survey by the National Association of Manufacturers late last year, 73% of manufacturers said attracting and retaining a quality workforce was a chief business challenge. Two-thirds said they were responding by giving more work to existing employees. There are other remedies, including hiring temporary workers, installing robots and partnering with schools to develop a new generation of employees. But, “the short-term response is to keep giving workers a lot of overtime,” says Denise Rice, director of the Tennessee Manufacturers Association.

Trump's Friends At Breitbart Brand Him 'Amnesty Don' Over DACA Comments

    By Harriet Sinclair On 1/25/18

President Donald Trump’s love of nicknames is well known: from his blasting of presidential rival “Crooked Hillary” Clinton in 2016 to his most recent “Cryin’ Chuck” Schumer.

But Trump is unlikely to appreciate the resurgence of the name bestowed upon him by right wing website Breitbart this week: “Amnesty Don.”
The former home of Trump’s ex-chief strategist Steve Bannon lashed out at the president on Wednesday over his comments that he would be open to finding a route to citizenship for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).

“We're going to morph into it. It's going to happen at some point in the future," Trump said.
“If they do a great job, I think it's a nice thing to have the incentive of, after a period of years, being able to become a citizen," he added, also saying Dreamers should “not be concerned,” CNN reported.
But his comments appear to have angered some of his alt-right supporters.
Breitbart, which is mentioned in tell-all book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House as being a media outlet whose backing the president does not want to lose, slammed Trump’s DACA comments as being a U-turn on his immigration policies and describing recipients of DACA as “illegal aliens.”

Trump will meet with House Republicans Tuesday to discuss immigration

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/n...616-story.html

President Donald Trump will meet with House Republicans next week to discuss immigration - just days after his off-the-cuff remarks on the issue threw the GOP's carefully-laid strategy into chaos.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and was confirmed by two House Republican aides who requested anonymity ahead of a formal announcement.

Confronted by moderate Republicans demanding they take up immigration bills, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and his leadership team had teed up votes on two measures next week: a hard-line draft written by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and legislation billed as a compromise between the moderate and conservative factions of the House Republican conference.

But when asked about the two bills during an interview on "Fox and Friends" on Friday morning, Trump stated his opposition to the so-called compromise legislation by saying he "certainly wouldn't sign the more moderate one."

Those remarks prompted hours of confusion on Capitol Hill, as GOP leaders indicated they were reticent to move forward with votes unless the bills had Trump's blessing.

Late Friday afternoon, the White House clarified Trump's remarks and said he would sign both immigration bills should either reach his desk, which is highly unlikely.

It's unclear whether the compromise measure - written with White House input, including from Stephen Miller, a top policy adviser - will even pass the House at all.

It also would seek to end the Trump administration's practice of separating immigrant children from their families when they are apprehended at the border by effectively allowing children to be detained with their parents. Critics of the policy, however, say the bill would not force the Trump administration to end the practice.
