Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has announced that his country will formally join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as a global partner next week.
"Global partners," or "partners across the globe," are a category of countries that NATO cooperates with on an individual basis outside of its main frameworks.
They include Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand and Pakistan.
The NATO website also already lists Colombia among global partners.
President Santos hopes that Colombia, which is the first Latin American country to attain the status,
will now "have much more play" in the global political arena.

The Colombian president is a P.O.S. sellout.
Now the Colombians' US and Israeli advisors might come in handy for a false flag to start a war with Venezuela with NATO intervention.
----
Another global poodle!

'Much more play in the global political arena???'
Someone must tell Santos that his country has just become a vassal to the US.
----
He must be on Colombian drugs when he said that.
What has Nato brought to the world ?
As far as the world is concerned, it is war and and destruction of nations.
How in the world Colombia can play a big role?
Maybe you can contribute colombian soldiers to serve the American interests, otherwise Colombia has no reason to be Nato member.
Unless Colombia is planning to wage a war against its neighbor?
----
Maybe he is moving narcotics with and thru' NATO protection forces
now that NATO transport can come and go without custom and security clearance.
----
Now NATO will have two supply lines for its drug running, Columbia and Afghanistan.
----
Strange bedfellows for sure. Thought we had a war on drugs?
Now we have a super highway..is a new NAFTA deal on the horizon?
Guess we will be handing out diversity visas for Columbia drug lords valedictorians?
