US Lays Out 12 Demands For A New Nuclear Deal With Iran

The Trump administration escalated its demands on Iran on Monday while giving Tehran a possible loophole if it wants the US to return to the nuclear deal which President Trump unilaterally cancelled last month, laying out a list of demands that Iran has to satisfy for the deal to be restored, including a stop to all uranium enrichment and halt to Iran's support for militant groups in the region.
The administration’s demands were outlined in a speech by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, which for the first time spelled out all of the administration’s requirements for a new agreement. Pompeo laid out an onerous list of 12 "basic requirements" on Iran which toughened the nuclear demands and called for a wholesale change to Iran’s military posture in the region, that he says should be included.
Among the demands listed by Pompeo was that Iran must "stop enrichment" of uranium and never pre-process plutonium. Iran must also allow nuclear "unqualified access to all sites throughout the country."
Pompeo also demanded that Iran must withdraw all of its forces from Syria, end its support for militant groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon, stop sending arms to the Houthi militia in Yemen, release all U.S. citizens, and cease its threats to destroy Israel.
Some of the requests were a bit more... bizarre:
Pompeo calls on Iran to rejoin the “League of Nations” (which existed from 1920-1946)

As the WSJ notes, the 12 asks mark a fundamental change from the 2015 agreement between Iran and six world powers that President Donald Trump abandoned earlier this month but which European leaders have sought to preserve. That agreement allowed Iran to enrich uranium under detailed arrangements in return for sanctions relief.
Still, while the secretary of state said that the administration wouldn’t try to renegotiate the old Iran deal. Instead, he did just that by outlining the 12 basic requirements for the new deal.
“Relief from sanctions will come only when we see tangible, demonstrated, and sustained shifts in Tehran’s policies,” Mr. Pompeo said in prepared remarks. “We acknowledge Iran’s right to defend its people. But not its actions which jeopardize the world’s citizens.”
Pompeo said the demands were needed because of the broad nature of what he called Iran’s malign behavior. The U.S., he said, didn’t create the need for the demands, Iran did.

They had that in the agreement Trump walked out on. If the US won't honor an existing deal, why agree to do a new one with them?

Trump hates any deal he didn't negotiate. They are always the "worst deal ever". Especially ones Obama was involved with. He would not mind signing the exact same agreement with his name on it instead. Then he gets the credit.

The Obama admin took bribes for the last deal, so maybe Trump's team want treason bucks too.

To be devil's advo, it is at all possible that GOP's mega donors/our closest mideast allies are actually right and deal needs to be renegotiated because Dem Obama was 'Jew Hater/Anti-Semite' and GOP's Trump is a Friend of Zion ?

Not clear if he read it as a child and how much impact it had but it was reported few days ago that Trump's dad had bought a famous book about Holyland Biblical prophecies and rapture. But in general, Obama Iran deal was seen as bad by many Christian Zionists, Netanyahu and Trump's largest donor.

Polish leaders are planning to defend the U.S. government’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal within the European Union, where the decision has been strongly criticized. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Tuesday that Poland wants to be an “informal go-between” and to explain to EU members and U.S. officials the positions of the other.
The Polish government’s mediation offer departs somewhat from the united front EU leaders displayed last week in voicing their continued support for the landmark nuclear deal.
Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said Monday during a visit to Washington that Poland stands with the rest of the EU in seeking actions to limit economic damage from the Trump administration’s move, “while as for the strategic and security dimension, we also understand the U.S. concerns.”

Pompeo spewing propaganda is getting worse...
Speaking on May 21 at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC, Pompeo said some pretty strange things in his speech, "A New Iran Strategy."
    ======
Mike Pompeo claims Iran carrying out 'assassination operations' in Europe
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...rations-europe

The statement bewildered security experts and Iranian exiles, who say they are not aware of any evidence for the allegation

(more Pentagon lies. Trump (Israel) MUST ramp up the obvious strategy to cause/create friction between Europe and Iran
even to the point of spewing absurdities like 'Shia sleeper cells' throughout Europe.
Following the clumsy Skirpal 'Novachok' lie fest.... nothing should surprise us.)

Iran Supporting Taliban in Form of Weapons, Funding: Pompeo

(of course what he DOESN'T mention is that BOTH the US and Iran
have been engaging the 'services' of various factions of the Taliban
to counteract each other's influence by the use of 'hired guns'.
It's quid pro quo and has been for years.... w/ the US continually trying to use Taliban
for terror operations on the Iranian flank. Standard operating procedure for years.
    and
Iran's interaction with the Taliban ALSO includes MUCH ongoing delivery of humanitarian aid/food/medicine
into Taliban controlled villages of Afghanistan and their shared border regions.)

In his first statement since Pompeo's Wednesday speech, Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei set 7 conditions for the European nations if they want Tehran to remain in the agreement.
In the wake of Washington's threats to target EU firms dealing with the Islamic Republic amid US sanctions, the Iranian leader said that - first and foremost - European banks should guarantee and assure trade with Iran.
"European banks should safeguard trade with the Islamic Republic. We do not want to start a fight with these three countries (France, Germany and Britain) but we don't trust them either, Khamenei said. "Europe should fully guarantee Irans oil sales. In case Americans can damage our oil sales... Europeans should make up for that and buy Iranian oil."

Khamenei laid out the full list on Twitter on Trump's favorite social media network, remainder of continued on twitter where in a brief tweetstorm, he unveiled the following demands of Europe:

    • Over the course of 2 years, US violated #JCPOA, several times, while the Europeans remained silent. These 3 European countries should prove that they won’t be as dishonest & untrustworthy as they were during nuclear talks in 2004-2005. Europe needs to compensate for it:
    • The US has violated Resolution 2231. Europe must issue a resolution against US’s violation [of it].
    • Europe must guarantee it will not raise the issue of the Islamic Republic's missiles and regional affairs.
    • Europe must guarantee the total sale of Iran's oil. If US manages to impede our oil sale, we should be able to sell our desired amount of oil. Europeans should-- in a guaranteed manner-- compensate for it and buy Iran's oil.
    • European banks must guarantee business transactions with the Islamic Republic. We do not have any disputes with these three countries; however, we do not trust them either because of their past actions.
    • Europe must confront imposition of any sanctions on the Islamic Republic and stand firmly against US's sanctions on Iran

In conclusion, Iran's Supreme Leader warned that "if the Europeans hesitate in responding to our demands, Iran is entitled to resuming its nuclear activities. When we find out the #JCPOA has no benefits, one of our options is to resume cancelled activities."
If the Europeans hesitate in responding to our demands, Iran is entitled to resuming its nuclear activities. When we find out the #JCPOA has no benefits, one of our options is to resume cancelled activities.

And so with both the US and Iran listing out conditions they both know will never be met, it is clear that not only will the US not return to the deal, but the EU may end up exiting the deal as well. Which means that as the "nuclear activity" wildcard returns, so will the threat of constant Israeli attack; it also means that any traders who are quick to price out geopolitical risk in the middle east may be surprised in the not too distant future.

Does Trump agree with these 12 demands or he is trolling the establishment into thinking he does?

Pompeo’s First Demand on Iran Is 100% Junk
    Michael S. Rozeff

Some guy named Pompeo is now the U.S. Secretary of State. His fast ascent to power is a strong indication of his excellence in demagoguery. It is well always to remind ourselves that a demagogue is “a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power”. This describes Pompeo and his boss, Donald Trump.

Pompeo has put his demagogic skills to work by making 12 demands on Iran. They are stupid, impossible, outrageous, and provocative. They are the opposite of diplomatic. They are also factually erroneous when they cite facts. The overall low level of this episode is shameful.

The first demand reads “Iran must declare to the IAEA a full account of the prior military dimensions of its nuclear program, and permanently and verifiably abandon such work in perpetuity.”

Iran already declared a full account of its nuclear-related activities to the IAEA, and the IAEA examined the case and gave Iran a clean bill of health. This occurred on Dec. 15, 2015. The IAEA declared

“The Agency assesses that a range of activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device were conducted in Iran prior to the end of 2003 as a coordinated effort, and some activities took place after 2003.

“The Agency also assesses that these activities did not advance beyond feasibility and scientific studies, and the acquisition of certain relevant technical competences and capabilities.

“The Agency has no credible indications of activities in Iran relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device after 2009. Nor has the Agency found any credible indications of the diversion of nuclear material in connection with the possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme.”

Pompeo demagogues the issue to all Americans by acting as if this has never happened. He clearly defines himself as a man who is exceedingly dangerous to the safety of Americans.

Pompeo demands of Iran an impossibility, which is that it “permanently and verifiably abandon such work in perpetuity.” Why should Iran, which is a signer of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that actually allows a certain amount of peaceful nuclear-related activities, give up this option? Why should Iran ever permanently commit to giving up military nuclear options when it faces hostile forces? Would it not be senseless to lay the country open to external hostile elements? Why should Iran even consider the kind of verification that Pompeo has in mind, which involves intrusively entering Iran’s military facilities at the whim of the U.S.?

Pompeo demands sort of a one-sided “peace treaty” or “pseudo-agreement” to be entered into by Iran with a sanctions gun to its head.

Pompeo demands that Iran surrender to the U.S.

What Pompeo asks is an absurdity. It’s a lame excuse for hitting Iran at his discretion.

If Pompeo applied word for word identically parallel demands for the USA:

    1. "First, USA must declare to the IAEA a full account of the prior military dimensions of its nuclear program, and permanently and verifiably abandon such work in perpetuity."
    2. "Second, USA must stop uranium enrichment and never pursue plutonium reprocessing. This includes closing its heavy water reactors."
    3. "Third, USA must also provide the IAEA with unqualified access to all sites throughout the entire country."
    4. "USA must end its proliferation of ballistic missiles
    5. "USA must release all Iranian citizens, as well as citizens of Iran’s partners and allies, each of them detained on spurious charges."
    6. "USA must end support to Middle East terrorist groups, including MEK, FSA, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda, and Wahhabist training and supporting elements."
    7. "USA must respect the sovereignty of the Syrian Government and permit the disarming, demobilization of Wahhabi militias."
    8. "USA must also end its military support for the Saudi military and work towards ending the Saudi war on Yemen."
    9. “USA must withdraw all forces under US command throughout the entirety of Syria."
    10. "USA, too, must end support for the FSA and other terrorists in Syria and the region, and cease harboring Al Qaida/Al Nusra leaders."
    11. "USA , too, must end the CIA support for terrorists and militant partners around the world."
    12. "And too, USA must end its threatening behavior against its world neighbors – many of whom are Iran’s allies. This certainly includes its threats to destroy Iran, Yemen, Syria, Israel, and its firing of missiles into Syria and Yemen via via Suadi proxies. It also includes threats to international trade shipping and destructive – and destructive cyberattacks."
