Will US recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights?

    http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/246155

    David Rosenberg, 17/05/18

Congress set to consider proposal to recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights, ending decades of refusal to accept 1981 annexation.

    Nimrod Castle, Golan, Israel

The US may for the first time recognize Israeli sovereignty over an area secured by Israel during the 1967 Six Day War, ending a 51-year precedent of refusal to officially acknowledge Israeli sovereignty over areas which came under Israeli control after 1949.

A new proposal brought before the House of Representatives by Florida Republican and House Foreign Affairs Committee member Ron DeSantis would recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel secured from Syria in 1967.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon Thursday, the proposal describes the Golan Heights as an “integral part” of Israel, and recognizes that it is “crucial” for Israel to retain the strategically important area overlooking the Sea of Galilee.

"It is the sense of the Congress that the Golan Heights represent an integral part of the state of Israel and are crucial to the ability of Israel to safeguard its borders and maintain its existence," the proposal reads in part.

The draft drawn up by DeSantis also cites the ongoing Syrian civil war and Iran’s use of Syria as a forward base for attacks on Israel as justification for recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.

"Given the civil war in Syria and the expansion of Iranian influence in Syria, the United States should recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights."

Israel extended its sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 1981 under Prime Minister Begin, a move which was not recognized by the US or other world powers.

While the US has in the past called on Israel to cede the 500 square miles of territory in the Golan it has held since a series of agreements with Syria following the 1973 Yom Kippur War established a buffer zone between the two countries, since destabilization of the Assad regime during the civil war, calls for Syrian control over the area have been muted.

The strategically important area was used by Syrian forces to snipe at Israeli farmers in the Galilee area from 1949 to 1967, prompting Israel to target the Heights when war broke out with Syria in June 1967. Successive Israeli governments have claimed the Golan Heights are essential to maintaining security in northern Israel.

Since 1967, roughly 20,000 Israelis have moved to the Golan Heights, where 20,000 members of the Druze community also reside.

The measure proposed by Rep. DeSantis has been given to the Republican-dominated House Rules Committee, which must decide whether to advance or quash the bill. The committee is headed by Texas Congressman Pete Sessions, a long-time supporter of Israel, and includes 11 Republican lawmakers and 4 Democrats

    Why?

    http://mondoweiss.net/2018/05/prince-becoming-zionist/

    https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300633422.html
"The Zionist movement is about a transformation of Judaism from a religion to nationalism," said Rabbi Aron Jecobowitz, a spokesman for the rally. "The recent forced military draft, as well as cruel oppression of protesters, is another stage in their attempt to force the remaining authentic Jews to take part in their actions, which is totally contradicted to the laws of Judaism.

"Jews are forbidden to create a sovereign state, wage wars against other nations or shed blood. The State of Israel is not Jewish at all, and its ongoing actions do not represent world Jewry.

"The Zionist state's claim to be a Jewish state is the worst kind of identity theft. The ongoing crimes committed by the state against the Orthodox community prove once again that they don't represent the religious Jews living under them, let alone those around the world.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Embassy law was passed pre-911. Unlikely now for such a law to pass in the Congress in the post 9/11 world, any amount of lobbies monies would not be enough to overcome public dislike for blowbacks costs for blindly supporting the only democracy in mideast.

GOP Christian base would also not mobilize. Jerusalem has Jesus connection and Christian evangelical base was heavily vested in end time conversion prophecies, Golan H won't do much for such prohecies or conversion propspects for unsaved people 'destined for hell' as they believe.

The potential US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights was the focus of a congressional hearing on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.
Israel took control of the strategically-important plateau from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move that was not recognized internationally.
Given the civil war that has torn Syria apart over the past seven years, some American and Israeli officials have recently begun pushing for the US to officially recognize that the Golan is part of Israel.
Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis of Florida expressed support for recognition at a meeting of the House Subcommittee on National Security on Tuesday.
“We can only imagine how much worse the threats to Israel’s north would be — and threats to the security of the broader region would be — if the Golan was in the hands of what remains of the Syrian regime, or Iran, or Hezbollah, or ISIS,” DeSantis, the chairman of the subcommittee, said.
“By recognizing the Golan as part of Israel, the US would send a clear that Syrian belligerence will not be rewarded, that Israel’s victory over its aggressor [in 1967] has consequences,” DeSantis noted.
The ranking Democratic member of the subcommittee, Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts, called for “fact-based decision making” when it comes to the Golan recognition question.
“In a very, very tumultuous time in the region, we should make sure that whatever actions we take enhance the national security of Israel, the United States, and our allies,” he said.
Speakers at Tuesday’s hearing included Hudson Institute senior fellow Mike Doran, Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs President Dore Gold, Northwestern University School of Law Professor Eugene Kontorovich, Princeton University Professor Daniel Kurtzer, and Zionist Organization of America President Morton Klein.
“Anyone truly concerned with international peace and security must conclude that this change [recognition] is in the best interest of everyone, with the exception of the Iranian regime and its allies,” Doran said. “And it is manifestly in the interest of the United States.”
“Recognizing reality will deny oxygen to our enemies and strengthen our allies — precisely what a sound foreign policy should seek to achieve,” Doran added.
Gold stated, “As the Syrian state recovers from the Syrian civil war, its allies can be expected to make demands on its behalf, like the return of the Golan Heights to Syria. In fact, these demands have already begun to be voiced. The strongest rebuttal to this effort would be recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”
“This would demonstrate conclusively that those who use force to threaten their neighbors will not benefit in the court of international diplomacy,” Gold continued. “States today have a choice. They can back the demands of Iran and its supporters or they can recognize the rights of Israel in the Golan Heights. US recognition of Israeli sovereignty would set an important example for others. Three US administrations consistently confirmed that they envisaged that at the end of the day, Israel must remain on the Golan Heights. That core bipartisan principle of past US policy cannot be realized in the long term without Israeli sovereignty over the Golan confirmed.”
The full testimonies of Doran, Gold, Kontorovich, Kurtzer, and Klein can be read here.

Jewish nation state: Israel approves controversial bill
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-44881554

(this article is a complete UK/Zionist apologetic. surprise.)

Israel's parliament has passed a controversial law characterizing the country as principally a Jewish state, fueling anger among its Arab minority.

The "nation state" law says Jews have a unique right to national self-determination there and puts Hebrew above Arabic as the official language.

Arab MPs reacted furiously in parliament, with one waving a black flag and others ripping up the bill.

Israel's prime minister praised the bill's passage as a "defining moment".

"A hundred and twenty-two years after [the founder of modern Zionism Theodore] Herzl made his vision known,
with this law we determined the founding principle of our existence," Benjamin Netanyahu said.

(not just Arabs.... it angers Jews as well who don't want to be associated w/ Zionists and their acts carried out in the name of 'Jews'.)

Putin Schools Netanyahu in ‘War on Terror’ Tactics ~ E.J. Magnier
    https://thewallwillfall.org/2018/07/...s-e-j-magnier/

vanessa beeley / 2 days ago

    Elijah Magnier writes:

Much speculation and many “positive outcome” comments were released about a “secret deal” alleged to have taken place during the meeting between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week in Moscow.

The Israeli media described it as “successful”, like the last visits (three in the last six months). However, Russian sources say the opposite, despite the hints of positiveness Putin mentioned. These hints were exaggerated and interpreted by Netanyahu as “an achievement”.

Russian envoys informed the Syrian leadership about the outcome of Netanyahu visit, stating the positive points Putin granted to his Israeli guest:

The Russian president received the Israeli Prime Minister warmly and emphasised the good relationship between both leaders. He said that he recognised the 1974 line respected by the government of Damascus for over 40 years.
Putin said he “understands Israel’s concerns about the Iranian military presence in Syria”.
Putin conveyed to his guest that any discussion about the Iranian presence in Syria will be postponed until terrorism is defeated in Syria, over the entire Syrian territory.
Putin said to Netanyahu that he understood from the Iranians they were not interested in staying in Syria once the danger to the Syrian government is over and all Syrian territory has been liberated- to the last inch.

Sources within the Syrian leadership said the Russian President “was clear with the Israeli Prime Minister that discussion of his concerns are postponed until the dossier related to terrorism is closed”. “If terrorists hide in an Israeli controlled area (the occupied Golan Heights) we (Russia and its allies) will eliminate them one by one”, said the source.

Putin reminded Netanyahu that “allied forces are fighting side by side with the Russian forces spread over the entire Syrian territory. Therefore, Moscow is not in a position to ask Damascus’s allies to fulfil Israel’s demands and look after its concerns, particularly when it is common knowledge that Tel Aviv helped al-Qaeda and other jihadists, and supported the ‘regime change’ but failed to achieve it”.

The sources believe that “Israel is watching the military formations of Hezbollah, the Iranian advisors and their allies spread all over south Syria during the south of Syria battle. These are deployed in a provocative formation to show their presence and send a clear message to Israel that its menace is not taken seriously. The Israel requests for Hezbollah and Iran to stay 80 km or even 10 km away from the borders of the Golan Heights have never been discussed with the Syrian government, only exchanged in the media. Therefore, Damascus is not concerned to give any guarantee to Israel or look after its fears related to Hezbollah or the Iranian presence with the Syrian army on the battlefield anywhere in Syria. Damascus has decided to initiate the battle in the south with no reference to any international agreement (between Putin and Trump)”.

President Bashar al-Assad didn’t limit his provocation to ask from Hezbollah to increase its military formation in the south of Syria, but he gave it a substantial gift: two full containers carrying US 60,000$/each TOW’s anti-tank guided missiles, Milan French anti-tank guided missile, and other “spoils of war” collected in the south of Syria battle as a token of gratitude to his allies who had shared the same fate during the long years of the war. The west and the Gulf countries supplied significant quantities of weapons to jihadists and rebels throughout the years of the war. These have changed hands from al-Qaeda, to ISIS, and now to Hezbollah.

Putin, on the same day, received at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence outside Moscow the Iranian special envoy of the Leader of the Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati who announced a $50 billioninvestment in oil and gas. A real slap in the face to Trump, who had revoked the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s Nuclear Deal (JCPOA). It shows how solid is the Russian commitment to Iran and the fact that its presence in Syria represents a strategic relationship. It is a clear message to Netanyahu that he is not Putin’s “Golden Boy” even though he understands the close US-Israeli ties and how important Israel is to the United States.

Israel knows it has lost the war against Assad and therefore it is trying to come out with as little damage as possible. Netanyahu may be relying on the Helsinki meeting between Trump and Putin who both agreed on the respect of the 1974 treaty and line bordering the occupied Golan Heights. However, the Syrian government’s position doesn’t support such an agreement and its message is very clear: no Iranian withdrawal from Syria unless Israel pulls out from the occupied Golan heights.

This equation means the conflict between the “axis of the resistance” and Israel is entering a new phase. This may be just the beginning.

    https://counterinformation.wordpress...i-boycott-act/

The bill was first introduced to Congress in March 2017,
with the aim of prohibiting American companies from assisting international governmental organisations with boycotts against Israel.
    These organisations include the UN,
whose high commissioner for human rights was tasked two years ago with drawing up a database of companies doing business in the illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,
    and the EU,
whose trade regulations discourage business with settlements but fall short of prohibiting it.
Even an individual in the US who supplies information about infringing companies to these bodies
could be liable to a civil fine of up to $250,000, or a criminal penalty of up to $1 million.
The original version of the bill, which was amended after considerable pressure from civil society groups,
would also have imposed prison sentences of up to twenty years.

Unless we are going to go to war against Israel to make them give it back it is Israeli territory until Syria or someone else takes it from them, however we don't need to take an official position and offend Israel's enemies, we should just keep silent and stop interfering by word or deed over there.

    It is not so simple.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-Day_War
In the period leading up to June 1967, tensions became dangerously heightened. Israel reiterated its post-1956 position that the closure of the straits of Tiran to its shipping would be a casus belli. In May Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced that the straits would be closed to Israeli vessels and then mobilised its Egyptian forces along its border with Israel. On 5 June, Israel launched what it claimed were a series of preemptive airstrikes against Egyptian airfields. Claims and counterclaims relating to this series of events are one of a number of controversies relating to the conflict.

The Egyptians were caught by surprise, and nearly the entire Egyptian air force was destroyed with few Israeli losses, giving the Israelis air supremacy. Simultaneously, the Israelis launched a ground offensive into the Gaza Strip and the Sinai, which again caught the Egyptians by surprise. After some initial resistance, Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser ordered the evacuation of the Sinai. Israeli forces rushed westward in pursuit of the Egyptians, inflicted heavy losses, and conquered the Sinai.
Nasser induced Syria and Jordan to begin attacks on Israel by using the initially confused situation to claim that Egypt had repelled the Israeli air strike. Israeli counterattacks resulted in the seizure of East Jerusalem as well as the West Bank from the Jordanians, while Israel's retaliation against Syria resulted in its occupation of the Golan Heights.

I agree and I always have, I don't think they would get destroyed but that is up to GOD.
We shouldn't be supporting and protecting any foreign country. (Japan is possibly an exception until we/they fix what we did to them after WWII to keep them from having a decent military to defend themselves)

I understand that we should have nothing to do with this plague on the earth. And I understand that we have been protecting and promoting the same evil since it's creation, Which we also aided.

I would like to see non-intervention..I would love to see Free Trade with Iran and Cuba..

but that will remain fantasy if no one speaks up.

When Christ returns it will be to cleanse that cesspool..
That is Ground Zero of evil.

The solution is NOT to switch sides or stick our nose any deeper into the Tarbaby, it is to pull out and keep our mouths shut about other people's business.

When he returns the remaining Jews who don't get destroyed will be returned to the fold, there are many other centers of evil rivaling the Zionists that will also be destroyed.

However I was discussing the time between then and now, I do not believe Israel will be destroyed any time soon.

And I don't buy into Darbyism. It is easily debunked.

I see absolutely no difference between a Heel Clicking Nazi and an Israel Firster..

I don't know much about it but my quick search on it leads me to agree with you in general at least

More the same than you might think, NAZIs were a sock puppet of the Zionists created to drive Jews to Judea and create a pretext for the creation of Israel.

You are the one defending the action (and legitimacy) of a evil rogue state.

I did no such thing, the fact is that Israel exists and controls certain territory, we must deal with that fact just as we must deal with the fact that the Communist Chinese regime exists and controls the territory it does, we should withdraw all support and leave them on their own.

I said no such thing, I said that whether or not they are destroyed any time soon is in GOD's hands, he allows many evil nations to survive for many complex reasons that are sometimes beyond our mortal understanding.
