Senator Rand Paul explained Tuesday that reports of North Korea threatening to cancel the imminent peace summit talks with President Trump are being ‘over-read’, and that the negotiations should go ahead unhindered.

“This is consistent with the historic position [on the exercises] and that is why I wouldn’t over-read what is going on here,” said Senator Paul, who sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“I’m hopeful the talks will still occur and the talks we’re talking about having in Singapore. I think those will still occur.” Paul told Wolf Blitzer on CNN.

“From their perspective, they also feel they gave up the three prisoners and said they are ending military-weapons testing,” Paul continued, adding “They are giving and haven’t seen a little bit on the other side from us.”
“This is just their way of responding and pushing back,” Paul said. “But I don’t think it endangers the upcoming talks.”
The Senator also commented on the Iran nuclear deal, noting that he supports talks between Iran and President Trump, saying “I think that we need more discussion at a higher level with Iran.”

They threatened to cancel a day after Israeli snipers killed 60+ and wounded thousands of unarmed Palestinians, coincidence or that played a role too?

North Korea Says US Must Stop Defending Israel, Which is 'Destroying' Middle East

North Korea has condemned the U.S. and its alliance with Israel, which continued to experience deadly clashes between security forces and Palestinian protestors. On Friday, the official Korean Central News Agency called the U.S. out for repeatedly defending Israel from criticism at the United Nations Human Rights Council, which U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley once called "a haven for dictators" and has threatened to pull the U.S. out of. Palestinians have threatened to lodge a complaint with the international body over rising casualties as Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on Palestinian demonstrators near the Gaza border, where dozens have been killed and thousands injured since violent protests erupted over Israel's historic and ongoing seizure of land.
"Israel's wild act of destroying Mid-east peace and mercilessly killing Palestinians is a hideous crime that deserves denunciations thousands of times," the state-run agency said of a commentary by North Korean Cabinet paper Minju Joson.
"If the U.S. is interested in protecting human rights, it should keep pace with the efforts of the international community to denounce and check Israel's human rights abuses," Minju Joson wrote. "But, the U.S. chimed in with Israel in the eyes of the international community, fully disclosing that it is applying double-dealing standards in human rights and politicizing it."

The White House on Wednesday downplayed comments by national security adviser John Bolton, who recently invoked Libya's decision to denuclearize during the Bush administration as a model for US policy on North Korea, potentially placing a planned US-North Korea summit in jeopardy.Hours earlier, a North Korean official said Bolton's remarks were indicative of an "awfully sinister move" to imperil the Kim regime. North Korea stunned Washington on Tuesday by threatening to abandon talks between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un if Washington insists on pushing it "into a corner" on nuclear disarmament.
Referring to the Libya comparison, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday that she hadn't "seen that as part of any discussions so I'm not aware that that's a model that we're using.
"I haven't seen that that's a specific thing. I know that that comment was made. There's not a cookie cutter model on how this would work."

She continued, "This is the President Trump model. He's going to run this the way he sees fit. We're 100% confident, as we've said many times before, as I'm sure you're all aware, he's the best negotiator and we're very confident on that front."

President Donald Trump rebutted his national security adviser, telling reporters that he didn't consider the nuclear disarmament of Libya a model for negotiations with North Korea over its atomic weapons program.

"The Libya model isn't a model we have at all" for North Korea, Trump said Thursday during a meeting at the White House with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

It seems like SK's leftist leader may have hyped things also by floating Nobel Peace Prize idea for current tax payers funded leader exploiting his hunger for validation and approval:

Why Trump’s North Korea summit is going off the rails, explained by an expert

    “Trump is loathed here.”

    By Zack Beauchamp
    May 21, 2018, 11:40am EDT

The much-anticipated summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, scheduled for June 12, is in trouble.

After National Security Adviser John Bolton said last week that the US would seek complete and total North Korean nuclear disarmament, North Korea said publicly that it would never accept such an outcome — and threatened to pull out of the meeting if Washington didn’t adjust its expectations.
North Korea experts see this as a long-overdue reckoning. The truth is that the United States and North Korea have long expected diametrically opposed outcomes from the talks — with the US wanting North Korea to give up its nukes and North Korea demanding recognition as a legitimate nuclear power. But neither side was willing to confront the reality of the situation. We’ve just been stumbling toward negotiations with no clear sense of how this yawning gulf could be resolved.
How did we get here? Robert E. Kelly, a professor at South Korea’s Pusan National University, gave a really clear explanation in a series of Monday morning tweets: It’s all because of South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Moon is a leftist who took office in May of last year, back when Trump was threatening war with North Korea. He made a deep and concerted effort to try to broker negotiations between Trump and Kim to defuse the tension, and part of his strategy was making grandiose promises about what talks could accomplish — even floating the possibility that Trump could win a Nobel Prize to entice him to the table.

    https://www.vox.com/world/2018/5/21/...summit-bbc-dad

The dream of Nobel Peace prize seems even more far fetched now that war crimes investigation has been launched after recent massacre of civilians of semitic races in which current ledaer's puppet masters could be implicated.
Just because they made a mistake before doees not mean that Nobel prizer team would repeat it.

Trump’s North Korea Nobel buzz could die with John Bolton

Is Trump’s biggest obstacle to a deal with North Korea his own national security adviser?

    05/16/2018

Donald Trump wants a deal with North Korea. His national security adviser thinks the North Koreans can’t be dealt with. And North Korea thinks he’s “human scum.”
North Korea’s latest diatribe against the United States — and specifically a “repugnant” national security adviser, John Bolton — spotlights a core tension within the Trump administration as the president seeks a nuclear deal with North Korea that he hopes might earn him a Nobel Peace Prize.

Instead of supporting the POTUS, some in media have already started to mock POTUS even before the start of historic Peace summit.
Not too surprising considering how parts of media had mocked recent Peace Process ceremony in Jerusalem using very controversial depictions.

'Weird, odd, a dumpster fire': Trump's North Korea summit coin ridiculed

The commemorative piece was minted by the White House Military Office, which typically designs coins for Trump’s trips abroad, before an expected summit between the two leaders in Singapore on 12 June. The coin describes the meeting as “peace talks”, in English and Korean.

U.S. accused of blinking on China trade standoff as N. Korea meeting looms
    by Martha C. White / May.21.2018
On Sunday, the Trump administration surprised the business world by announcing it would pull back on its plan to impose tariffs on Chinese goods. After many months of threats and tweets about China's unfair trading practices, suddenly the U.S. was "putting the trade war on hold," in the words of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and it was not clear what, if anything, China had to give up in return.
That led to charges that China had outmaneuvered President Donald Trump.
"I think this president has shown in a number of different issues that he wants a headline more than he actually wants to solve a problem," said Gabriel Horwitz, vice president for the economic program at Third Way.

Trump says North Korea meeting may be delayed, hints China is to blame

The president says Xi is a ‘world-class poker player’ and suggests Kim changed his tone after meeting with the Chinese leader.

    By CRISTIANO LIMA
    05/22/2018 12:28 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested that his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may be delayed and that Chinese President Xi Jinping may be responsible for a breakdown in the pre-summit talks.
Meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House, Trump said there was a "very substantial chance" the talks could be postponed from the scheduled date of June 12 if the countries fail to come to terms on various issues. He also hinted that the Chinese leader may be behind North Korea's return to more aggressive rhetoric against the U.S.

Questions have grown over whether the highly anticipated diplomatic talks will go on as planned next month in Singapore due to recent criticism from Pyongyang of joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea. North Korea has also said it has no interest in a summit if the U.S. demands "unilateral nuclear abandonment."
Trump on Tuesday floated that Kim's meeting with Xi earlier this month may be linked to his country's sudden hesitation to engage with the U.S. diplomatically.
"I think there was a little change in attitude from Kim Jong Un" after his second meeting with Xi in early May, Trump said. "So I don't like that."

Pressed on whether he believed Xi had discouraged Kim from meeting with U.S. leaders, Trump said "no" and that he wasn't "blaming anybody."
But he added: "President Xi is a world-class poker player and I'd probably maybe doing the same thing that he would do. But I will say this, there was a somewhat different attitude after that meeting and I'm a little surprised."

North Korea warns of nuclear showdown, calls Pence 'political dummy'

    By Joshua Berlinger, CNN
Updated 4:35 AM ET, Thu May 24, 2018

(CNN)A North Korean official has lashed out at US Vice President Mike Pence and said Pyongyang is ready for a nuclear showdown if dialogue with the United States fails.

Choe Son Hui, a vice-minister in the North Korean Foreign Ministry, said if the US continued on its current path, she would suggest to North Korea's leadership that they reconsider the planned summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Whether the US will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behavior of the United States," Choe said in comments carried by North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency Thursday.
Choe was responding to comments by Pence made Monday during a Fox News interview that she deemed "unbridled and impudent."

... North Korea has come crawling back, virtually begging for a meeting.
In a statement issued by state-run Korean Central News Agency, citing Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan, North Korea announced it was willing to sit with the U.S. "whenever, however" through any method to try to resolve the outstanding issues.
Gwan said that whereas President Trump’s announcement to one-sidedly cancel the planned summit is unexpected and very regrettable, North Korea remains unchanged in its aim to do everything possible for the peace and stability of Korean peninsula and humanity, and noted that President Trump's decision to cancel the summit is "not what the world wants" and the summit is necessary to resolve the current hostile bilatereal relationship.
Furthermore, North Korea appears to be backtracking on the recent diplomatic escalation and has effectively apologized, stating that "its previous remarks regarding the U.S.-North Korea summit had been in protest against strong US remarks towards North."
While we await the full KCNA statement, here are the key bullet points courtesy of Reuters and Bloomberg:

    • NORTH KOREA SAYS TRUMP'S SUMMIT CANCELLATION IS UNEXPECTED
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS IT'S WILLING TO MEET WITH U.S. AT ANY TIME
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS IT IS STILL WILLING TO RESOLVE ISSUES WITH UNITED STATES WHENEVER, HOWEVER
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS U.S.-N.KOREA SUMMIT IS NECESSARY TO RESOLVE CURRENT HOSTILE BILATERAL RELATIONSHIP
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS IT HAD WISHED `TRUMP MODEL' COULD RESOLVE ISSUES
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS IT HAD HOPED FOR ISSUES REGARDING N.KOREA TO BE RESOLVED "TRUMP-STYLE"
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS NO CHANGE IN N. KOREA'S WILL TO DO BEST FOR PEACE
    • NORTH KOREA SAYS ITS PREVIOUS REMARKS REGARDING U.S.-N.KOREA SUMMIT HAD BEEN IN PROTEST AGAINST STRONG U.S. REMARKS TOWARDS NORTH
    • N.KOREA HAS WILLINGNESS TO GIVE CHANCE, TIME TO U.S.
    • NORTH KOREA HAS WILLINGNESS TO GIVE CHANCE, TIME TO U.S.

    And the punchline:

    • NORTH KOREA SAYS CURRENT SITUATION REFLECTS DESPARATE NEED FOR SUMMIT
