Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote in a Montana Independent Record op-ed that rancher and state auditor Matt Rosendale is “a fearless conservative leader.”

Sen. Paul wrote, “I’ve endorsed Matt Rosendale because I believe he will drain the swamp and will vote for a limited Constitutional government even if that means standing up to big spenders in the Republican Party.”
Rosendale leads in the Montana Senate Republican primary and hopes to challenge Sen. Jon Tester in the general election.
“Matt Rosendale will not waiver. I know I can count on him to help me repeal Obamacare,” Paul said.

I don't see Rosendale as exactly a liberty candidate. So why endorse him? You endorse someone who closely matches all your values. This guy wants war with Iran.

If he will improve the average quality in the Senate Rand could use the support on other issues.

Rosendale is an east coast carpetbagger (Maryland), like soon to be Utah Senator Mitt Romney (M$#@!).

You know more about him than I do.

But if he is the best option in the race then it fits Rand's strategy to earn a favor by supporting him and improve the average quality of the Senate at the same time.

If there is someone better in the race I'd be interested to know.
