Tsar Bomba (Russian: Царь-бо́мба, tr. Tsar'-bómba, IPA: [t͡sarʲ ˈbombə], lit.Tsar bomb/King of Bombs was the Western nickname for the SovietRDS-220 hydrogen bomb (code name Ivan[3] or Vanya), the most powerful nuclear weapon ever created.

    The bomb had a
yield of 50 megatons of TNT (210 PJ). In theory, it had a maximum yield of 100 megatons if it were to have included a U-238 tamper, but because only one bomb was built, this was never demonstrated. The single bomb was detonated at the Sukhoy Nos cape of Severny Island, part of Novaya Zemlya.

    As is my carbon footprint.

Just so people reading this are aware, the island is actually doing pretty well. The reef is fine, fish seem to be doing okay.

It was just the people inhabiting that island that were affected by their home being made a virtual nuclear wasteland. It seems people are more susceptible to nuclear radiation than ocean wildlife.

That first underwater test, the Baker event, instilled new awe for the power of the bomb. The Navy had believed that many of the target ships would survive the blast, be decontaminated, and sail out of the lagoon. But, within two weeks, Navy leaders had to admit that the ships were so soaked in radiation, they couldn’t be saved, and the Marshall Islands became graveyards for irradiated vessels. After that, even in the years that the U.S. and the Soviet Union regularly tested nuclear bombs, only a few were ever underwater. It took almost a decade after Baker for the Navy to try setting off a bomb underwater again.

Once, in Las Vegas, you could play the tables all night, get good and drunk, then go to a diner and watch an atom bomb explode over breakfast.
