Rand getting a seat at the table so to speak is not a bad thing. Voicing his opinion in Senate hearings is one way to get out his message and drive debate, but being a part of the real decision making discussion is even better.

Now we only need to hear the other side - Trump and Pompeo - story confirming any of this. Will they hang him out to dry?

Scott Adams used Rand Paul as an example of a person who has all the facts right but no persuasive skills. Sort of the opposite of Trump.

    Afganistan & Syria quagmire

This could turn into a BIG F'n deal if the USA is still in Ashcanistan and Syria when the 2020 elections roll around.

Rand Paul/Austin Petersen 2020? Whatever party.

Rand treats people with respect, yet the evidence is overwhelming that people generally don't want respect.

That's why the Pauls are/were allowed to linger in congress for so long.

People want to be dominated and get something out of it - like protection from their imaginary enemies.

Has the McConnell reelection paid Rand any dividends yet?

Well I guess that's an optimistic way to look at it because I guarantee you there will still be U.S. troops in Afghanistan and most likely Syria in 2020. At this point I wouldn't hold my breath on getting troops back out of Iraq!

They always show up for his speeches.

I want to go see him here in June..but the cheapest ticket is $127. Maybe I'll go to counter protest the protesters.

How do you think Rand got on the Foreign Relations Committee? Do you think most Republican Senators are happy that Rand is able to throw a wrench in the process? Do you think it was just a random oversight that Rand got on the most powerful committee, despite having foreign policy views that are abhorrent to most of the other Republican Senators?

His colleagues might get annoyed, but they don’t object too loudly to his prime committee assignments — largely because they fret how much noise he could make if he were completely on the outside. So they wait for his next play. If nothing else, he will be consistent on this.

Exactly. That is the only benefit to Rand's endorsement of Mitch the bitch. Now that he isn't running for President next time around, let's see if Rand caves to endorse Mitch, or if he actually works for the cause to remove Mitch from office.

In politics if you are not feared then you are not respected.

Wrong, again, strategy failure. Getting a seat at the table means nothing. Dominating the table, controlling the political environment is the goal. Just wanting a seat at the table is an amateur's objective.

Ummmm... Really? It is bizarre thing with Rand. He has taken more stands and more arrows and gets less appreciation for it than any politician I have ever seen.

Here is an example. He kept Bolton and Giuliani from getting out of committee. Seems like kind of big deal. At least to me.

Hey, look everybody, I'm Matt Collins and I know more than Rand and Ron and all of you combined. If I really truly wanted to I could be a Congressman, Senator or POTUS! And I'd be the bestest and really change the system. I just ain't got time for that.

I honestly dont recall debating about whether Rand has taken stands... I'm more concerned about the times when he stands down. Obstructing Bolton and Guiliani - great wins. ..And just to confirm, these were made possible by helping Mitch?

Well that is definitely something. While I wouldn't consider that a fair trade, at least there are some dividends being paid...

I remember when Ron Paul was chairman of Financial services committee, and while it made for some entertaining youtube clips, I regret that it did not amount to much in terms of changing policy (not yet anyway). I guess I have no choice but hope that Rand is more successful with his strategy- regardless, Pompeo is a tough pill to swallow.
