Giuliani to Join Trump’s Legal Team

Rudolph W. Guiliani, the former New York City Mayor and longtime friend of President Trump, will join the president's legal team in an effort to "quickly" resolve the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference and possible ties to Trump associates.

    ...

"The president said, 'Rudy is great. He has been my friend for a long time and wants to get this matter resolved quickly for the good of the country,'" Mr. Sekulow said in a statement.

Partisan politics, misleading or emotional bill titles, and 4D chess theories are manifestations of the same lie—that the text of the Constitution, the text of legislation, and plain facts do not matter; what matters is what you want to believe. From this comes hypocrisy. And where hypocrisy thrives, virtue recedes. Without virtue, liberty dies. - Justin Amash, March 2018

Cohen Would Turn Against President if Charged, Counselor Warned Trump

Former prosecutor Jay Goldberg says he cautioned president that his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, could be compelled to cooperate with prosecutors

One of President Donald Trump’s longtime legal advisers said he warned the president in a phone call Friday that Michael Cohen, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer and close friend, would turn against the president and cooperate with federal prosecutors if faced with criminal charges.
Mr. Trump made the call seeking advice from Jay Goldberg, who represented Mr. Trump in the 1990s and early 2000s. Mr. Goldberg said he cautioned the president not to trust Mr. Cohen. On a scale of 100 to 1, where 100 is fully protecting the president, Mr. Cohen “isn’t even a 1,” he said he told Mr. Trump.

    https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/9...783235073.html

Here's his take... I would title it 'Choosing Who will be Above the Law'

    1) Guiliani joining team to negotiate exit of Mueller is confirmation of earlier analysis on Mueller "referee" intent.
The investigative and indictment balance was always between Clinton and Trump. Mueller was always playing the role of leverage fulcrum.

    2) If you look at Mueller from the position of trying to protect his cherished Deep State institutions from horrible Trump swamp draining.... things begin to take a more accurate context.

    3) REMEMBER THIS IS FROM "MUELLER'S PERSPECTIVE."

    4) The only way for Mueller to protect his Swamp Allies and Institutions, was to generate leverage against Trump.

    5) Having established only political leverage, nothing factually unlawful or illegal, the investigation begins to dry up. Leverage diminishes.

    6) Without direct leverage against Trump, Team Mueller moved to position leverage against those Trump cares about.... that's a secondary approach

    7) But the secondary leverage approach is fraught with public noting Mueller is on a "witch hunt".... the investigation into outlying Trump allies becomes transparent in motive. Support for Mueller erodes amid independent-minded people.

    8) Enter Rudy Giuliani, a political and legal Subject Matter Expert - with direct knowledge of evidence held by NYPD and NY FBI field office of gross criminal conduct by Hillary Clinton. (Weiner Laptop etc) Buried by SDNY Clinton Allies

    9) With Mueller having exhausted most of his investigative leverage, Giuliani enters to negotiate exit and discuss his team's path of retreat and image face-saving.

    10) The discussion from Mueller will not center around Trump, but rather center around how much risk to Hillary Clinton, and by extension political allies within FBI and DOJ - including Obama White House, Mueller will permit.

    11) Mueller will be looking to protect the interests of Obama, Clinton, Lynch, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, etc. and negotiating degrees of risk to the institutions each represents.

    12) This is the political horsetrading phase. The leverage cards held by each participant are laid on the table for discussion. Low leverage officials will be sacrificed by Mueller to protect those holding more leverage.

    13) Giuliani is a well qualified person to present the Trump administration position within these negotiations. They are essentially negotiating who faces criminal prosecution and who doesn't.

    14) Ultimately protecting Obama and Clinton will be of higher importance to Mueller. If Mueller doesn't protect Clinton, he knows her team will destroy everyone if she goes down. That scorched earth approach is a historic part of Team Clinton's leverage.

    15) The stronger the evidence is against Clinton the more people Mueller will have to give up to protect her. The stronger the evidence against the corrupt institutions, the bigger the officials Mueller will have to sacrifice to save them.

    16) Negotiating all this with Robert Mueller will be Rudy Giuliani's job.

    17) The general public will never know the ultimate deal decisions. We will only be able to gauge the scale of corruption by the officials Mueller agrees to sacrifice.

    18) That's life amid the swamp when SHTF...

While it is still possible, ending Mueller probe at this stage will be very difficult after Mueller team having gained much more leverage in recent days after Cohen raid. Why Giuliani waited till the last minute before joining the team?

Some comic writers are also concerned that he's been out of the game for so long that he may be out of touch:

Untangling the web of Michael Cohen
Here's a breakdown of the people that President Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen dealt with and the investigations he's entangled in. (Jenny Starrs/The Washington Post)

by Michael Kranish, Tom Hamburger and Rosalind S. Helderman April 21

When Donald Trump won the presidency, his longtime attorney Michael Cohen seemed in position for a coveted spot in the senior ranks of the White House.
At one point, Cohen topped a list of five candidates for White House counsel, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post. He suggested to some Trump allies that he might make a good chief of staff.
But when Trump built his West Wing team, the brash New York lawyer did not make the cut.
Some in Trump’s inner circle worried about blowback from Cohen’s associations and un*or*tho*dox tactics in fixing the New York developer’s problems, Trump associates said.
Among those opposed, the associates said, were Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law, Jared Kushner. For his part, Cohen had warned Trump against giving Ivanka Trump and Kushner White House jobs, saying the president would be hammered by complaints of nepotism, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The rebuff wounded Cohen, according to people familiar with his views, although he continued to publicly express admiration for his longtime boss.

They're not ending anything any time soon. They're building up a drama narrative to turn people out to the polls for the midterms. The right is getting the "lost Hillary emails release" and the left is getting the "Trump investigation" to try to get both sides fired up. Otherwise, the midterms would be pretty boring since there's no major offices (at least in my state) up for grabs. House of Reps is the biggest offices on the ballot but those are every two years any way.

    This really is great news!

The swamp is really getting drained…
Does anybody even know that the Alfa Bank is (or should be) in the middle of Russiagate?!?

In 2008, none other than Rudy Giuliani was hired by the Russian Alfa Bank for a speech. Giuliani featured prominently on Alfa’s website.
See Rudy Giuliani with the heads of Alfa Bank; Mikhail Fridman on the left and Pyotr Aven in Moscow at Alfa’s “Award for Excellence in Foreign Investment in Russia”.

In 2004, Giuliani flew to Russia to meet the Russian billionaire Victor Rashnikov.
Rudy Giuliani’s law and consulting firm, Giuliani Partners, has also represented Russian oil company Rosneft. In one deal Giuliani Partners represented both seller Rosneft and buyer, Qatar’s investment fund.
Giuliani’s firm has also worked for the Italian oil company Eni, which has a close partnership with Rosneft.

In 2007, it was revealed that Giuliani’s firm lobbied for the US subsidiary Citgo Petroleum Corp of the Venezuelan state-oil company PDVSA.
PDVSA got a $1.5 billion dollar loan from Russia’s Rosneft to avoid default on its other obligations, with 49.9% as collateral.

Giuliani Partners also worked for TransCanada of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Rudy Giuliani has also represented Fox News (of Rupert Murdoch), the government of Saudi Arabia and UST Tobacco.

In 2012, Bracewell & Giuliani announced that its client Chesapeake Energy had closed an energy deal with Royal Dutch Shell Oil.
Shell announced that they were also advised in this deal by Bracewell & Giuliani.

Giuliani left Bracewell & Giuliani in 2016, and joined Greenberg Traurig: https://thesternfacts.com/the-trump-...r-1353876e789e

Richard Burt has longstanding connections with both BGR Group and Alfa.
Burt was a member of the advisory board of the Alfa Group and still has an advisory role at LetterOne.

Richard Burt was also executive chairman and is still a member of the Advisory Board of corporate intelligence operation Diligence LLC, which employs former spies.
Former director of CIA and FBI, William Webster, is also involved with Diligence LLC.
A stake in Diligence is owned by none other than Nathaniel “Nat” Rothschild.

Dimitry Simes arrived in the US in 1973 and quickly made a career, becoming an informal policy adviser to Richard Nixon. In 1994 Nixon appointed Simes to lead the Nixon Center.
In March 2011, the Nixon Center was renamed to Center of the National Interest (CNI) and separated from the Richard Nixon Family Foundation. Both Simes and Burt are board members of the CNI. Trump’s friend for many years, Henry Kissinger, is honorary chairman of the CNI, while the cofounder of Baron Jacob Rothschild’s investment fund Blackstone, Peter Peterson, is also a board member.
In 2017, Simes met Kremlin adviser Gleb Pavlovsky and Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.

In 2013, Simes attended the Valdai International Discussion Club alongside Putin. Putin meets Valdai Club’s participants every year since 2004: https://medium.com/mosaic2/nixon-cen...p-35018040f65e

After the New York Times asked the Alfa Bank about this communication; the Trump Organization server was shut down immediately.
Four days later, the Trump Organization created a new host name, which enabled communication to Alfa Bank and Spectrum Health via a different route.
After the Times again started asking questions at the end of September 2016, the traffic between the servers completely stopped.

Alfa Bank is part of the Alfa Group, who’s CEO, the Ukrainian born Mikhail Fridman, is one of the richest billionaires in Russia and close to Vladimir Putin.
Fridman is also a board member of the US-based International Advisory Board of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR): http://www.slate.com/articles/news_a...th_russia.html

In 2016, some computer hackers found out that a server registered to the Trump Organization on Fifth Avenue was “secretly” communicating with the Alfa bank and Spectrum Health.
One of the peculiar things about this server is that it excluded communication from other hosts. The investigators found that at election-related moments, the traffic peaked.
They weren’t able to see the contents of the communication.

Spectrum Health has denied having a relationship with Alfa Bank or any of the Trump organizations. Betsy DeVos has become Trump’s Secretary of education and her brother, Erik Prince of the Blackwater mercenaries, is an unofficial advisor to Trump...

The computer experts that investigated reached the conclusion that there is an undeniable relationship between the Trump Organization, Spectrum Health and Alfa Bank.
    DNS-expert Paul Vixie concluded:
The parties were communicating in a secretive fashion. The operative word is secretive. This is more akin to what criminal syndicates do if they are putting together a project.

In 2003, BP formed a joint venture with the Alfa–Access–Renova consortium (AAR) - TNK-BP - to explore, extract, refine and sell Siberian oil and gas. The joint venture generated more than £19 billion in dividends for BP and accounted for around a quarter of its total oil production.
In 2011, BP tried to form a strategic alliance with Russia’s largest state owned oil company - Rosneft. BP and Rosneft were forced to put their plans on hold after AAR obtained a High Court injunction against BP. In July 2012, the Russian courts awarded 100 billion roubles (about £2 billion) to AAR.
Rosneft eventually partnered with Exxon-Mobil and BP lost out on this opportunity.

On 18 October 2012, Rosneft bought out BP and AAR for a reported £56 billion deal, including a significant stake in Rosneft for BP: https://www.lexology.com/library/det...0-52fc4e4ea1e0

Don't forget that Rex Tillerson, who was recently unceremoniously dismissed (by tweet) as Secretary of State, used to be CEO of ExxonMobil…

From 1995 to 2000, Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton. The ties to Russia have been a little overlooked.
During the 5 years with Cheney’s as CEO, Halliburton was awarded $3.8 billion in government contracts or insured loans. During Cheney’s 5 years, government banks loaned or insured loans to Halliburton (most for its subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown and Root) worth $1.5 billion, compared to (only) $100 million during the previous 5 years.

For the refurbishment of the Siberian oilfield, the Tyumen oil company (TNK) was loaned $489 million from the US Export-Import Bank (after lobbying by Halliburton). Halliburton in return received $292 million for the refurbishments: https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ion.georgebush
