The cause is unknown, though a fault was detected on the line "50700" which starts in Aguirre Central. Electric Power Authority spokeswoman Yohari Molina tells The Associated Press that crews are investigating, while officials said Wednesday it could take 24 to 36 hours to fully restore power.

Just one day after the beleaguered US territory suffered another island-wide blackout, Reuters reports that Puerto Rico's power company has restored power to more than 1.1 million homes and businesses.
The Puerto Rican Electric Power Authority (PREPA) says that it is working to provide power to the less than 30 percent of customers still without power.

The latest blackout was reportedly caused by an excavator that accidentally took out a transmission line between power plants in Puerto Rican cities Salinas and Guayama.
