Greek Communists Protest US-led Syria Strikes, Deny Chemical Weapons Used

ATHENS – After Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said Greece wouldn’t join NATO partners, protesters led by the Communist party rallied against airstrikes that hit Syria for using chemical weapons against its citizens, including children.

The KKE Communists, who have around 6 percent support in the country and have been politically irrelevant for decades, indicated they believed claims by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his ally Russia that no chemical weapons were used and that the images and videos showing victims were faked, despite being verified by independent sources.

Tsipras, the Radical Left SYRIZA leader, wants NATO’s support against continued violations of Greek airspace and waters by Turkey, which is buying missile systems from Russia, who Tsipras has been trying to court.

The protesters gathered April 14 at Athens’ central Syntagma Square before marching to the U.S. Embassy, chanting anti-U.S. slogans and carrying banners. Some wrote on the pavement in red paint:

Damn, even the communists got it right. Imagine if the Nazis were also against it and the progressives types and neocons were all for it. Actually I am 99.9% sure that the Nazis had they been around today would condemn the Syria bombing. Consider how awful the people today supporting this policy are when you consider that the hated communists and Nazis would have had the human decency to come out against this bully tactic by the west.

Putin Orders Start of Syria Withdrawal, Saying Goals Are Achieved

    MARCH 14, 2016

MOSCOW — President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia on Monday ordered the withdrawal of the “main part” of Russian forces in Syria, a surprise move that reflected what he called the Kremlin’s achievement of nearly all its objectives in the war-torn country.

The news upended expectations in Western capitals and among ordinary Syrians, setting off fevered speculation about Russia’s intentions, much as Mr. Putin’s unexpected military plunge into the Syrian battlefield five months ago changed the course of the war.

Perhaps the most urgent questions were how the move would affect the war’s outcome and what it meant for President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, whose rule had been increasingly threatened by a string of military losses before Russian forces backed him up.

The Russian decision could signal a new confidence in Mr. Assad’s stability or an effort to pressure him to negotiate with his political adversaries — or both.

Mr. Putin has made his move at a particularly critical moment, as the upheaval in Syria enters its sixth year and a United Nations mediator in Geneva tries to revive peace talks to stop the war, which has displaced millions and created a humanitarian catastrophe.

Putin announces Russian troop withdrawal from Syria during visit

    11 December 2017

Russia has begun withdrawing some of its troops from Syria, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Monday.

President Vladimir Putin ordered the partial withdrawal during an unannounced visit to Syria on Monday.

Russian support has been crucial in turning the tide of Syria's civil war in favour of government forces, led by president Bashar al-Assad.

Mr Putin made a similar withdrawal announcement last year, but Russian military operations continued.

When asked how long it would take for Russia to withdraw its military contingent, Mr Shoigu said that this would "depend on the situation" in Syria.

The Russian president was met by Mr al-Assad at the Russian Hmeimim airbase near Latakia.

Mr Putin said: "I order the defence minister and the chief of the general staff to start withdrawing the Russian group of troops to their permanent bases," according to the Russian RIA Novosti news agency.

"I have taken a decision: a significant part of the Russian troop contingent located in Syria is returning home to Russia," he added.

You left off Russia, Iran, Hezbollah, Syria, ISIS, etc. The civil war started when Assad sent tanks and guns after peaceful protesters. Once chaos ensued, fighters from around the region joined the fray.

I placed ISIS amongst the militants.

Russia, Iran, Hezbollah, SAA we're not included because civilian death and displacement from their end are a result of their attempts to target militants who if not supported by foreign powers would not be around to target.

More from protests against US occupation of Raqqa:

  25. #22
Nebenzia focused on Raqqa in an emergency meeting of the UNSC to broadcast the shameless hypocrisy
of the coalition's humanitarian neglect while they simultaneously profess their veneer of 'concern' for Ghouta.
    Nimrata didn't even show up.

Syria’s Raqqa devastated, ‘de-facto occupied & run by a gang of incompetents’ – Russia’s UN envoy
    https://www.rt.com/news/424434-syria...pied-nebenzia/

The US and its allies are doing practically nothing to help rebuild Raqqa, which is de-facto occupied, Russia’s UN Ambassador told the UNSC, after a UN representative reported on the mass-scale devastation of the Syrian city.

On average, an estimated 50 people a week are being killed in Raqqa,
the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator told members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC),
noting that virtually nothing is being done for some 100,000 repatriates who have returned to the destroyed city.

“Conditions are not conducive for return, due to a high level of unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive device (IED) contamination, and widespread and severe infrastructural damage and the lack of basic services,” Mark Lowcock said, reporting on the UN team’s findings after its April 1 visit to the Syrian city. “Up to 95 percent of households who have returned to Raqqa are food-insecure. Health services are lacking or severely limited.”

The situation in Raqqa, destroyed during a four-month battle that ended in October 2017, remains “disastrous,” Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday, after Moscow requested holding an open UN Security Council briefing on the humanitarian situation in Raqqa and the Rukban refugee camp on the border with Jordan.

“Rebuilding the city that was destroyed by airstrikes is not taking place. People have been returning at their own risk and are often being killed by mines and IEDs,” Nebenzya noted, reaffirming the observations voiced by Lowcock.

“American occupation hasn’t brought anything positive to the inhabitants. The only effective solution to the current situation is to reestablish state structures in Raqqa,” the envoy added, noting that people in the “de-facto occupied territory” have started to protest against the US presence there.

The city, recaptured by the Syrian Democratic Forces, is now under the loose control of the US-supported militias. Reconstruction of Raqqa and its suburbs is being carried out through a network of local councils, which Nebenzia called a gang of “completely incompetent people.”

“How can we entrust them with people’s safety and security?” he asked. “Raqqa is in ruins. Literally, there isn't a building left standing. Thousands of bodies are still buried under the ruins.”

Now Trump Is Accusing Russia of 'Currency Devaluation'
    https://russia-insider.com/en/now-tr...uation/ri23197

He has continued and intensified the financial war against Russia waged by Obama and he's bitching about ruble weakness??
Give this man an economics textbook.

Without going too deep - as we would never get out - it is worth noting three things.

First: in the Treasury's just released report on FX manipulation, neither China nor Russia were accused of devaluing their currencies.
If Trump has a problem with Beijing's or Moscow's FX policies, he should probably first instruct his treasury.

Second, both currencies have been strengthening for over two years, and only saw a modest loss in value just very recently.

Third, the only reason Russia is "playing the devaluation game" is because of the sanctions Trump unleashed on Russia last week
which sent both the ruble, and Russian assets crashing.
If anything, Moscow wants a stronger Ruble to avoid having to raise rates even higher.

‘Unpleasant for Americans:’ Iran Vows Retaliation if US Kills Nuke Deal
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201804...ran-nuke-deal/

"Iran has many options if the United States leaves the nuclear deal," Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told reporters in New York on Thursday.

"The response from Iran, and in fact from the international community, to the US move would be very unpleasant for Americans," Zarif said. (?)

Zarif is slated to discuss US-Iran relations, regional politics in the Middle East and the future of the Iran nuclear deal April 23
at an event hosted by Stephen Hadley and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Hadley served as former US President George W Bush's national security adviser and is a member at CFR.

Meeting with senior United Nations officials is also on the Iranian diplomat's agenda in New York, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

For the US to remain in the deal, the president must periodically waive nuclear sanctions against Iran that are still part of the United States legal code.
Trump has until May 12 to sign those waivers and keep the deal alive.

Russian jet responsible for transporting S-400 system lands in Syria
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article...ands-in-syria/

Russian An-124 strategic airlift jet reportedly landed at the Hmaymim Military Airport in southwest Latakia on Friday,
    local reports claimed this evening.

This Russian aircraft is a strategic airlift jet that can carry up to 150 tons of cargo.

The An-124 was previously used by the Russian Aerospace Forces to transport the S-400 system to Syria in late 2015.

    According to some rumors from pro-government pages, the Russian An-124 was transporting the S-300 system to Syria;
    however, these claims remain unfounded.

The An-124 does not make many trips to Syria,
so its latest arrival at the Hmaymim Airport has raised some questions as to why an aircraft like this would make its way to southwest Latakia.

    1) Total BS. There were no peaceful protesters. There were only ISIS front men. The KKK rallying at Charlottesville claimed to be "peaceful" too.

    2) Hillary Clinton and her co-conspirators were encouraging violent regime change BEFORE the protests even started.

    https://wikileaks.org/clinton-emails/emailid/12601
If Gadhafi falls within the next few months, there will be another model for regime change: that

of limited but targeted military support from the West combined with an identifiable rebellion.
Not that this can be easily applied in Syria. It hasn't even been easily applied in Libya, and Syria
would be a much harder nut to crack. Furthermore, the Syrian opposition is far from united or

being able to establish a Benghazi-like refuge from which to launch a rebellion and to which aid
    can be sent.

But if there is regime change in Libya, the international community would be emboldened with

the precedent, with maybe even the Russians finally getting on board, and it would give the
Syrian regime something to really think about. Perhaps it would even give Bashar al-Assad the
upper hand with his ruthless brother and security minders to finally do what he should have done

in the beginning -- forgo violence, offer and implement real reform and enter into a national
    dialogue with the opposition.

The options are not pretty. The Syrian regime does not want, nor can it probably survive, long-

term international pressure or isolation, but it is used to sanctions, special tribunals, the
withdrawing of ambassadors and similar actions. These are marginal levers that will have very
little effect on the regime in the near term.

Success for the rebels in Libya might change that.

That was an op-ed piece by David Lesch but if you read further you see that he was communicating with Sydney Blumenthal who was forwarding the communication to Hillary Clinton. They wanted to foment violent rebellion against Assad.

    3) Do you want to go to war with China?
