Trump-Haters Bash POTUS On Tariffs, Shocking Announcement From China Shuts Them Up

    March 26, 2018 Dan Lindsey

Trump-haters in Washington, D.C., who bashed President Donald Trump on tariffs, have a big reason to shut up after China made a shocking announcement. This is more winning that you don’t want to miss.

In an effort to avoid a trade war with the United States, China’s Premier Li Keqiang announced on Monday, March 26, 2018, that his country pledges to ease access for American businesses. China’s shocking announcement comes on the heels of the country receiving constant backlash from President Trump over the obscene trade deficit the U.S. has with China.

Now, it looks like all the haters who told Trump he was wrong about being tough on trade are the ones who couldn’t have been more wrong. According to Newsmax, Li made the announcement during a conference with global chief executives and emphasized that China would work to provide equal treatment to both foreign and domestic firms.

In addition, Li promised that China would not force foreign firms to transfer technology to domestic entities and vowed to strengthen intellectual property rights. “With regard to trade imbalances, China and the United States should adopt a pragmatic and rational attitude, promote balancing through expansion of trade, and stick to negotiations to resolve differences and friction,” Li said during the conference.

The announcement came a week after the United States sent a letter asking China to cut a tariff on U.S. automobiles, give U.S. firms more access to the Chinese financial sector, and buy more U.S.-made semiconductors, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Back at home, both Republicans and Democrats went into panic mode as a possible trade war between the U.S. and China loomed overhead. In recent weeks, financial markets experienced a static environment as investors anticipated a worst-case scenario should trade barriers go up after President Trump publicly rebuffed China for the trade deficit and urged China’s leadership to reduce it by $100 billion.

China’s response to Trump is the last thing all the haters in the swamp wanted to hear. Obviously, the political elites in our government would rather see Trump fail and America continue to suffer tremendous financial consequences from bad negotiations for which they are to blame.

The announcement from Li was completely unexpected after President Trump revealed his plan to place tariffs on Chinese goods in response to a U.S. inquiry which found that China is guilty of intellectual property theft and unfair trade. For years, China had been forcing U.S. investors to divulge trade secrets and technologies to Chinese firms for the “privilege” of doing business.

Although the mainstream media in America and the state-run media in China have both fanned the flames of a trade war, it appears that officials from both sides are working quietly behind the scenes to resolve the massive imbalance in trade which has hurt our economy.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin reportedly called Liu He, who is the newly appointed Vice Premier and President Xi Jinping’s top economic adviser, to express his gratitude toward China’s willingness to compromise on trade. A spokesman for the U.S. Treasury confirmed the call but declined to comment on specific details.

“Secretary Mnuchin called Liu to congratulate him on the official announcement of his new role,” the spokesman told Reuters. “They also discussed the trade deficit between our two countries and committed to continuing the dialog to find a mutually agreeable way to reduce it.”

In my opinion, President Donald Trump was the perfect man for the job. Our staggering trade deficit with countries such as China is a tremendous reason we wanted Trump in the White House to begin with. After eight years of colossal foreign policy failure and financial ruin from former President Barack Obama, we needed a world-class businessman to take over and right the ship. That’s exactly what we got.

The only thing that will fix the trade imbalance is for the US to shrink the size of its government.

his country pledges to ease access for American businesses
What this entails is important. Will they lower a tariff and raise a fee? Will they lower all fees and tariffs to equal what is on the US side? Will they eliminate rules that US companies must "partner" with a Chinese company to do business there (which they use to facilitate trade secret theft)?

People forget some of the thinking that went into original trade deals with China, India, etc. They were intentionally unbalanced in order to benefit third world nations. It was meant to show them the wonders of capitalism and lure them away from communism, while raising them out of abject poverty. Those goals have been achieved. It's past time for balanced deals.

They have well learned and come to love crony corporatism, so we have nothing left to teach them.

China urges WTO members: Put U.S. tariff 'beast back in the cage'

GENEVA (Reuters) - China called on World Trade Organization members on Monday to unite to prevent the United States “wrecking” the WTO, and it urged them to oppose U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs targeting China’s alleged theft of intellectual property.

Trump’s trade policy, labeled “medieval” by former WTO head Pascal Lamy, has inflamed international opinion this year.

While a U.S. veto on new WTO judges jams up legal disputes in Geneva, Trump has slapped tariffs on solar panels, cited national security to restrict steel and aluminum imports, and demanded that China slash $100 billion from its U.S. trade surplus.

China’s WTO ambassador Zhang Xiangchen said the latest U.S. move, linked to alleged theft of U.S. innovation, was fundamentally incompatible with the WTO.

“In the open sea, if the boat capsizes, no one is safe from drowning. We shouldn’t stay put watching someone wrecking the boat. The WTO is under siege and all of us should lock arms to defend it,” he told a WTO meeting.

Washington needed WTO authorization for the intellectual property tariffs, he said.

“WTO members should jointly... lock this beast back into the cage of the WTO rules,” Zhang said.

A U.S. diplomat at the meeting said Chinese technology transfer policies cost U.S. businesses billions of dollars annually, and noted that the United States had filed a WTO complaint accusing China of allowing patent theft and discriminating against foreign technology holders.

China is alone in facing that allegation, but it is not alone in its opposition to Trump’s worldwide tariffs on steel and aluminum, and on Monday it became the first country to launch a WTO claim of compensation for lost metals exports.

    Official Chinese government statement: http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/zmgxss/t1544748.htm

Statement of the Chinese Embassy in the United States
    Regarding the "Section 301 Investigation"
    2018/03/23

The United States persisted in conducting the "301 investigation" and announced relevant trade measures, ignoring rational voices, and in disregard of the mutually-beneficial nature of China-U.S. trade relations and the consensus reached by the two countries of managing differences constructively through consultations. It is a typical unilateral trade protectionist action. China is strongly disappointed and firmly opposes such an action.

Bearing in mind the principles of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, China has demonstrated sincerity in making reasonable suggestions to the U.S., and has made great efforts to address the current trade imbalance between China and the U.S. China does not want a trade war with anyone. But China is not afraid of and will not recoil from a trade war. China is confident and capable of facing any challenge. If a trade war were initiated by the U.S., China would fight to the end to defend its own legitimate interests with all necessary measures.

The actions undertaken by the U.S. are self-defeating. They will directly harm the interests of U.S. consumers, companies, and financial markets. They also jeopardize international trade order and world economic stability.

We urge the U.S. to cease and desist, make cautious decisions, and avoid placing China-U.S. trade relations in danger with the purpose of hurting others that eventually end up hurting itself.
