    Anti-sanctuary push in California

Anti-sanctuary push could spread far beyond Orange County city

The County of Orange and several cities in Southern California soon might join Los Alamitos in its bid to opt out of a controversial state law that limits cooperation with federal immigration officials.

Officials with the county as well as leaders in Aliso Viejo and Buena Park said Tuesday they plan to push for various versions of the anti-sanctuary ordinance approved in Los Alamitos late Monday by a 4-1 vote of that city council.

“There’s a pretty good amount of cities interested and they want to know about the process,” said Los Alamitos Mayor Troy Edgar, who spent Tuesday fielding calls and e-mails from officials in other cities and others interested in the push.

Immigration advocates said Los Alamitos and cities and counties that follow its opt-out ordinance will be violating state law and at risk of litigation.

With CALEXIT from the socialist left and the more normal side of California talking about creating a new seperate state this push back on sanctuary status has bigger long term implications IMO. This action from the cities and counties is actively setting up the future defined borders.

Illegal immigrants, who dodged California ICE raid after Dem mayor's tip-off, re-arrested for new crimes

Three illegal immigrants, who avoided capture after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf blew the whistle on a raid by federal immigration authorities last month, have since been re-arrested for new crimes including robbery and spousal abuse, ICE officials said.
Schaaf tweeted out a warning ahead of the raid in northern California last month, infuriating Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials and the Trump administration.
“How dare you!” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in California this month, addressing Schaaf. “How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical, open borders agenda.”

ICE officials eventually caught 232 illegal immigrants, many of them criminals, in the four-day sweep but said that hundreds more escaped because of Schaaf’s warning.

Huntington Beach is the latest city in California to join a growing backlash against the state’s sanctuary law.
In a late-night vote Monday, the Huntington Beach City Council decided 6 to 1 to sue the state of California over SB 54, which protects illegal immigrants by limiting the cooperation between local police and ICE agents. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), who represents Huntington Beach, praised the decision to sue.
“I am very proud of the USA. I would suggest that those who advocate for sanctuary states are betraying the American people.”

Citizens the state over are making it loud and clear that they refuse to sit idly by while California Gov. Jerry Brown unlawfully protects illegals in their state. Los Alamitos was the first city to take action, voting 4-1 on March 19 to pass a city ordinance exempting it from SB 54. That vote created a domino effect, and the cities of Aliso Viejo and Buena Park announced that they would also push for an exemption from the law.

A backlash to California’s new “sanctuary” law protecting immigrants from deportation has formally spread to the northern part of the state.
Elected officials in Tuolumne County, which encompasses part of Yosemite National Park, passed a resolution repudiating a recently passed law that limits interaction between local law enforcement and immigration authorities.

The vote made Tuolumne County the third in California to officially push back on the law, following more-populous Orange County and San Diego County in southern California. Both of those states went further, voting to join the Trump administration's lawsuit challenging the law.

Another California city has joined the fight against the state's sanctuary city laws, which limit local authorities' ability to investigate illegal immigrants' status and communicate with federal immigration officals.
Carlsbad’s City Council voted 4-1 Monday to support the Trump administration's lawsuit against the state's pro-illegal immigrant sanctuary city policies, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Carlsbad is located near San Diego, where the all-Republican Board of Supervisors also voted in April to support the federal government's legal action.

“Our laws are becoming more difficult to enforce,” said Mayor Matt Hall. “It takes many agencies working together to keep us safe.”
Councilwoman Cori Schumacher, the lone dissenter on the council, decried the vote as "purely political" and "divisive," according to local reports.
Some citizens urged the council to avoid the temptation of "intolerance and bigotry," while others voiced support for the federal government.
“I cannot see the difference between a sanctuary state and a secessionist state,” retired Marine Glenn Bernard said, according to the Tribune.
