Kids demand end to gun violence

PARKLAND, Fla. — They solemnly spilled onto the high school football field, holding signs protesting gun violence and wearing shirts
that read "March for our lives." They waved at a crowd of onlookers who had gathered to show support.

Exactly one month after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, survivors of the massacre
joined tens of thousands of students across the U.S. by walking out of school on Wednesday morning.

The mass protests were held at 10 a.m. local time in each time zone and lasted 17 minutes, one for each of the Parkland victims. Organizers said the purpose was to highlight "Congress’ inaction against the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods."

"Kids demand . . ." well. kids demand alot and don't always - if ever - know what's good for them, anyhoo.

They want Congress to act . . . but how exactly (?) Re-write out of the constitution civilian gun ownership (?)
I don't see why an environment which criminals would procure guns without civilian gun ownership as a deterrent helps these kids at all.

The Founders didn't warn us of the attack of the "children" upon important civilian rights here in this next millennium, eh ?

Like I said in the other thread... A 17 minute walkout from government schools is a good start - next time, they should walk out and never go back.

Those places are dangerous to young minds - and it has nothing to do with shootings.

my kid goes to school as a subversive. they talked about daylight savings time this week, my kid told the teacher he was tired because the govt stole an hour from him. *she emailed me about it, she found it amusing and informative. and yes, I stole it from a meme, but considered it a teachable item for the spawn.

Definitely subjects of dumbing down, indeed. These kids are protesting to have their rights taken away. They with rue the day when they get what they want.

Maybe they should be asking for an end to our 17 year long war?

If only their minds were capable of going there. They are not.

More to the point, where the hell are the parents? Their minds are so deeply trapped in the rut that is the assumption that a child must go to school, they are wholly blind to the possibility of alternate methods.

Besides, it seems a stiff majority of parents are secretly thankful for those schools that take responsibility from their shoulders for about eight hours per work-day. "I love my children. Well, no, I don't love them quite that much."

Emotional kids should decide our policies. If you disagree you are simply anti-children.

As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths. Isaiah 3:12

It's our own damn fault, men that is, for abdicating our authority and allowing all this.

Protest? Sounds more like a fire drill.

It sounds like Exploitation of Children to me. as disgusting as kiddy porn,,
without the sex, but exploitation just the same.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

And yet, if pro self-defense advocates make any attempt whatever to reach out to young people that are not their own children, we are immediately accused of exactly what you mention and vociferously denounced for it. Imagine that.

Holy mother of god, can you imagine the outcry if GOA or NRA or whatever staged something like this?

Indeed I can. Back in the 90s we tried a little outreach to HS students on a purely local level. The response was, shall we say, histrionic. And I was in a largely pro-gun area at the time.

Rocklin High School in Rocklin, California, placed a teacher on paid administrative leave after she let students discuss the politics of the National School Walkout, which took place around the country yesterday morning.

Julianne Benzel told CBS13 that she suspects she got in trouble for suggesting that schools administrators who condoned the student walkout might be practicing a double standard.

"And so I just kind of used the example which I know it's really controversial, but I know it was the best example I thought of at the time," said Benzel. "[If] a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided 'I want to walk out of school for 17 minutes' and go in the quad area and protest abortion, would that be allowed by our administration?"

Her students saw her point, and the discussion—which took place last week—was fruitful, according to Benzel. But on Wednesday, the teacher received a call that she had been placed on leave.

Officials did not specify what the problem was, but offered the following statement:

A Rocklin High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave due to several complaints from parents and students involving the teacher's communications regarding today's student-led civic engagement activities.

Students' free expression rights should vastly outweigh the state's interest in locking kids up all day, and letting them peacefully protest gun violence seemed like the right call to me. But if it's okay to protest, it should also be okay to have a discussion about the protest. As long as no student was unjustly disciplined for political speech, it seems to me like there's little reason for parents to complain, or for Benzel to be in trouble.

We are going to be totally screwed unless people turn out in organized mass protests against the leftist news media and the globalist elites organizations that are pushing this crap.

They need to be knocked down a few pegs before we end up with no ability to defend ourselves in mass lined up in front of a ditch some day.

    1. The average high school kid is borderline retarded. No one should take their opinions seriously. In fact, I would raise the voting age to 30. It takes a long time to form views.
    2. Anyone who protests anything is a loser. Protests don't work. I have never seen a protester where my first thought wasn't "This person has failed at life."
    3. Schools absolutely should punish people for protests if it interrupts class. Reason Magazine is crazy encouraging this stuff.

But if broaden the sample to include kids of other races, they have mixed record of winning at best.
