Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has been seeking counsel from confidantes on how he should handle the Stormy Daniels situation, a source close to the President tells CNN.

The source said Trump is being told by advisers not to fight Daniels' decision to break a confidentiality agreement because it would make him look guilty. This source said it's the only reason Trump has stayed quiet on the issue and hasn't been tweeting about it.

The source also believes the controversy potentially poses a bigger threat to Trump's presidency than Russia. The difference here compared to accusations from other women is that there's a signed agreement and a payment.

It's plausible. So far the Russia thing isn't much of a threat.

But yeah, it is kinda weird that anybody would be surprised to find out that some of the people Trump pays for sex are porn stars.

In all fairness, it's still "alleged payment", Trump has not tweeted about it one way or the other.

But you may have a point, GOP family values driven base could care less about so called "Russia collusion with Trump against Hillary"... but alleged payment to a porn star as hush money few days before 2016 elections would have significant political risks if this became a bigger scandal. Would add to list of things that GOP base does not like about Trump (gun control, attacks on Sessions/ Bannon, path to DACA etc) and would further energize Dems who will be looking to settle Clinton impeachment score.

I'm imagining something like this will happen :

The White House has repeatedly said Trump didn't know a thing about the payment.
Take the president at his word, it's not like he'd ever lie
Since a lawyer is supposed to talk to his client then the lawyer didn't do his job
Go after the lawyer's license, start the process to disbar him for not talking to his client
Wait for the lawyer to find a creative ways to pass dirt on Trump

A top Trump Organization attorney filed a secret legal document to keep Stormy Daniels from talking about her alleged affair with President Trump, deepening links between Trump’s company and the effort to silence the porn star.
The Trump Organization quickly distanced itself from the document, filed as part of confidential arbitration proceedings in Los Angeles on Feb. 22. The document was made public Wednesday evening by CNN and the Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post confirmed its authenticity with Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for Daniels.

Earlier this month, she sued Trump in a California court, alleging that because only the president's lawyer—and not the president—signed the nondisclosure agreement that accompanied the $130,000 payment, no "agreement" between Clifford and Trump ever really took place. A day later, she teased a 60 Minutes interview and publicly offered to return the money in exchange for the right to "speak openly and freely about her prior relationship with the president and the attempts to silence her." When Trump missed the offer's expiration date, her attorney pounced.


While CBS fact-checks the interview and, presumably, assigns a small army of lawyers to assess the potential liability associated with airing it, Trump has become uncharacteristically preoccupied with the saga's potential fallout. A source close to the president told CNN that Trump has been asking friends for their advice on how to make the story go away, and that, in the source's estimation, it might pose a greater threat to the presidency than Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. And for a man for whom no subject is too delicate for a tweet, there has been a noticeable dearth of Stormy Daniels-related missives emanating from the world's most-watched Twitter account.

Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, wants a lawsuit brought by porn actress Stormy Daniels moved to federal court, and claims the woman could owe $20 million in damages for violating a non-disclosure agreement.
The Friday court filing seeks to move Daniels’ case from a state-level court to federal court in Los Angeles.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is seeking to invalidate the non-disclosure agreement. She has offered to return the $130,000 she was paid.
The filing accuses Clifford of violating the agreement more than 20 times.
A separate filing says Trump would join a request to have the case heard by an arbitrator.
Clifford’s lawyer says it’s an attempt to have the matter decided in private arbitration, “thus hiding the truth from the public.”
