Trump says Rex Tillerson out as Secretary of State, replaced by Mike Pompeo

By Alex Pappas | Fox News

President Trump on Tuesday ousted his embattled top deplomat Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and said he is replacing him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State,” the president tweeted. “He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!”

There had been longstanding rumors throughout most of Tillerson's tenure of friction between Trump and him. Tillerson had just returned from a shortened trip to Africa hours before Trump's announcement. Trump offered no explanation for the change.

A senior White House official told Fox News the president decided to make the change ahead of his upcoming meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

“The president wanted to make sure to have his new team in place in advance of the upcoming talks with North Korea and various ongoing trade negotiations,” the adviser said.

Tillerson, the former chief executive of ExxonMobil, was tapped as Trump’s first secretary of state. But the two clashed over foreign policy strategies over the last year.

“I want to thank Rex Tillerson for his service,” Trump said in a statement. “A great deal has been accomplished over the last fourteen months, and I wish him and his family well.”

Pompeo is the first former CIA director to become secretary of state. Before joining the Trump administration, he was elected to Congress from Kansas.

“I am deeply grateful to President Trump for permitting me to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and for this opportunity to serve as secretary of state," Pompeo said in a statement. "His leadership has made America safer and I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America’s prosperity.”

Trump said he is naming Gina Haspel the new director of the CIA. Haspel has served as Pompeo’s deputy and will become the first woman to serve as director.

“I am grateful to President Trump for the opportunity, and humbled by his confidence in me, to be nominated to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency,” Haspel said in a statement.

Both Pompeo and Haspel will face a Senate confirmation process. Republicans on Capitol Hill reacted warmly to the selections.

“Mike Pompeo is an outstanding selection as our next Secretary of State," Arkansas GOP Sen. Tom Cotton said. "Mike’s deep understanding of world affairs, his clear-eyed view of the threats to our national security, and his key relationships with world leaders make him an excellent choice to be our top diplomat.”

Fox News' Jennifer Bowman, Serafin Gomez, Chad Pergram, Lucas Tomlinson and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

And it could be that the CIA is going to get into the lollipop manufacturing business, but not likely.

Do you think they are taking off the kid gloves with Russia? Or is Rex still not so far removed from Exxon that they want to create the narrative that there is no conflicts of interest?

Before leaving the White House en route to California Tuesday morning, Trump said Pompeo has "tremendous energy, tremendous intellect, we're always on the same wavelength. The relationship has been very good... I think Mike Pompeo will be a truly great secretary of state."

From 2003 to 2005, Gina Haspel was a senior official overseeing the top-secret CIA torture program RDI (Rendition, Detention, and Interrogation) that included waterboarding, sleep deprivation, and squeezing into coffins of terror suspects. RDI also kidnapped suspects and delivered them to third-party countries to do the dirty work.

In 2002, Haspel was present at a CIA black site in Thailand when Abu Zubaydah and al-Nashiri were tortured. The torture of Zubaydah was especially horrible and included waterboarding 83 times. At one time he appeared to be dead and doctors “revived” him. Because of the brutal abuse, Zubaydah lost sight in his left eye.
In 2005, Haspel and her superior Jose Rodriguez decided to destroy the videotapes of the interrogations of Zubaydah and al-Nashiri to prevent Congress from seeing them.

Chatter about everyone in WH who complians about son-in-law Kushner getting fired seems to be exaggerated. And to be fair, Tillerson was not as supportive of Kushner and Netanyahu's foreign policies as he could have been. Nikki Haley OTOH is doing a stellar job, she's a keeper.

Tillerson, Kelly Reportedly Frustrated With Jared Kushner Running U.S. Foreign Policy

Politico reports that John Kelly has repeated Rex Tillerson's complaints, which were not take well by Kushner

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and White House chief of staff John Kelly are reportedly frustrated with Jared Kushner's trespassing into Tillerson's turf, according to Politico.
Tillerson has long been rumored to be upset with Kushner for “running a second foreign policy,” especially when it comes to the Middle East and Israel. Kushner does have an officially portfolio which includes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Mexico and China.
Tillerson also reportedly expressed frustration about U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and national security adviser H.R. McMaster encroachment on his position.
“We can’t have four secretaries of state,” Tillerson said.
Politico added that Kelly has repeated Tillerson's complaints, which reportedly have not been taken well by Kushner.

Is Trump's Son-in-law Destabilizing the Middle East? Rex Tillerson Thinks Jared Kushner Is a Threat to Peace

    By Tom Porter On 12/2/17
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is concerned that negotiations being held between Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman could tip the Middle East into chaos, Bloomberg reported.
Tillerson, according to Bloomberg's sources, says that 36-year-old former real estate executive Kushner has left the State Department and key U.S. diplomats in the dark about the content of the negotiations.

Kushner family solicited Qatari investment just before blockade: report

    By Brandon Carter - 03/02/18
White House senior adviser and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’s family real estate company sought an investment from the government of Qatar just weeks before a Middle Eastern blockade against the country, according to a Thursday report.

Two sources told The Intercept that Kushner’s father, Charles, met with Qatar’s Finance Minister Ali Sharif al-Emadi in New York in April to seek an investment from the Qatari government for the Kushner Companies’ 666 Fifth Ave. property.
The two men and their aides met for 30 minutes, according to the report, and a second meeting was held the next day at the Fifth Avenue location. Al-Emadi didn’t personally attend the second meeting, and the deal was never completed.
The Fifth Avenue building is a flagship of the Kushner family’s real estate business and has been the nexus for conflict-of-interest questions surrounding Kushner and his role in Trump’s White House.
Kushner Companies bought the property for $1.8 billion in 2007. Before resigning his role at the company to join the Trump administration, Kushner introduced a $7.5 billion plan to redevelop the skyscraper and reportedly pursued foreign investment in the project to pay down its massive debts, which were recently reported to equal $1.448 billion.

Tillerson was told he was out on Friday.
He spoke up for Britain on Russia because he thought it was the right thing to do.
He spoke because he'd been fired,
he wasn't fired because he spoke.

    so...
So the Secretary of State only spoke up for US closest ally against Russia,
because he already knew he was being fired??? wtf?

    and btw...
In 2017 there were calls for Germany's Public Prosecutor General to issue an arrest warrant
against Gina Haspel over claims she oversaw the torture.

Trump asking for advice on Stormy Daniels situation

By Maegan Vazquez and Pamela Brown, CNN
    Tue March 13, 2018

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has been seeking counsel from confidantes on how he should handle the Stormy Daniels situation, a source close to the President tells CNN.

The source said Trump is being told by advisers not to fight Daniels' decision to break a confidentiality agreement because it would make him look guilty. This source said it's the only reason Trump has stayed quiet on the issue and hasn't been tweeting about it.

The source also believes the controversy potentially poses a bigger threat to Trump's presidency than Russia. The difference here compared to accusations from other women is that there's a signed agreement and a payment.

    Oh boy- from Pompeo's article:

Congress should pass a law re-establishing collection of all metadata, and combining it with publicly available financial and lifestyle information into a comprehensive, searchable database. Legal and bureaucratic impediments to surveillance should be removed. That includes Presidential Policy Directive-28, which bestows privacy rights on foreigners and imposes burdensome requirements to justify data collection.
