Cool Trump: Outgoing Economic Adviser Is ‘A Globalist, But I Still Like Him’

“He’s seriously globalist, there’s no question," Trump added of Gary Cohn.

    03/08/2018

President Donald Trump labeled outgoing National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn “a globalist” during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, making the third time in three days that the controversial term has been used on the national stage.

Trump was addressing Cohn’s upcoming departure from the White House when he used the word to describe Cohn, who is Jewish. The term is increasingly used in xenophobic and anti-Semitic contexts.

“He’s been terrific,” Trump said. “He may be a globalist, but I still like him. He’s seriously globalist, there’s no question, but you know what, in his own way he’s also a nationalist because he loves our country.”

Though the remark could arguably be related to Cohn’s free-trade views, which clashes with Trump’s, the word has been increasingly used by anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi members of the so-called “alt-right” white supremacist movement.

Its use within those circles targets a longstanding conspiracy theory about an international Jewish cabal working to undermine the traditional white family and Western culture by pushing for immigration and diversity.

A glossary of extremist language published by The New York Times places “globalism” among terms like “alt-right,” “antifa” and “cuck.”

“For the far right, globalism has long had distinct xenophobic, anti-immigrant, and anti-Semitic overtones,” the article states. “It refers to a conspiratorial worldview: a cabal that likes open borders, diversity and weak nation states, and that dislikes white people, Christianity and the traditional culture of their own country.”

The White House confirmed Tuesday that Cohn will resign from his spot as Trump’s chief economic adviser “in the coming weeks.” The former Goldman Sachs executive hit a tough spot in his relationship with the president last summer after Cohn disagreed with Trump’s response to neo-Nazis and anti-racism protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, Reuters reported.

Cohn, in an interview with the Financial Times, had said at the time that he considered resigning over Trump’s delayed condemnation of the protesters and the president’s initial claim that “both sides” deserved blame for the violence that left a woman dead.

Cohn ultimately decided to stay in his position, though asserted that the Trump administration “must do better.”

“As a Jewish-American, I will not allow neo-Nazis ranting ‘Jews will not replace us’ to cause this Jew to leave his job,” he told the paper at the time. “I feel deep empathy for all who have been targeted by these hate groups. We must all unite together against them.”

That appears to be the entire point of this propaganda piece. Anyone who uses the term "globalist" is now an anti-Semite. Perhaps they will add Democrat and socialist to the list? Ungood speak must be eliminated, comrade. Some animals are more equal than others.

IIRC, didn't they accuse Ted Cruz of making an anti-Semitic remark when he said "New York values"?

They (socialist think tank) got caught off guard. They are working hard right now on a catchy phrase to label people that are against globalism. I am guessing something like globalphobist, world citizen hater etc.

    Trade globally; govern locally.

A “globalist” on trade policy is a good thing as long as they’re not including governance. Unfortunately, Trump has it backwards. Protectionism is governing globally while forcing you to trade locally. So who is the real globalist?

I know why! I know why!

It's because right-leaning media sources have been reporting that a lot of Black Congressional Caucus members have ties to Louis Farrakhan, and that old photo of Obama with Farrakhan came out recently. For a few days, Fox news has been showing video clips of Farrakhan talking about jews, jews, jews - whom he is not fond of. They like talking about how anti-semitic he is and the hypocrisy of the democrats (true enough). I guess the left feels that they need to establish a counter-anti-semite-argument, so they're trying to twist "globalist" into a jewsult.

Right now, they must be scraping the bottom of the barrel for new things to call racist.

    example of recent rightish reporting:
At least seven House Democrats are known to have direct ties to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a notorious anti-Semite and racist who has called Jews “satanic” and said white people “deserve to die.”

California Reps. Maxine Waters and Barbara Lee, Illinois Rep. Danny Davis, Indiana Rep. Andre Carson, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, New York Rep. Gregory Meeks and Texas Rep. Al Green have all attended meetings with Farrakhan while in Congress, according to photos, videos and witness accounts of the meetings reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

With the exception of Davis, the Democratic representatives have ignored repeated requests for comment regarding their relationships with Farrakhan.

Davis has a personal relationship with Farrakhan and is unbothered by Farrakhan’s position on “the Jewish question,” he told TheDCNF on Sunday. Davis called Farrakhan an “outstanding human being” in an interview with The Daily Caller in February and said he has regularly visited with Farrakhan...
