It's almost impossible to save Afrin at this point, the second phase of the Turkish attack is brilliant in military terms, very well organized.

Following repeated losses in the fighting against Syrian and Iraqi Kurds, some suffered last month in Afrin, Syria, Turkey is rushing to equip its main battle tanks with the ‘Akkor Pulat’ Active Protection Systems (APS) developed in Ukraine. In late February 2018 Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli announced that following successful tests in Ukraine the APS will begin testing on M-60T and Leopard-2A4 tanks in Turkey, to follow with operational deployment of systems on those tanks soon after the tests completion.

Erdogan: Turkish troops surround Afrin, may enter city at any moment
    http://www.rudaw.net/mobile/english/...yria/090320182

Turkish troops and their Syrian allies have surrounded the city of Afrin and are ready to “enter at any moment” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed on Friday,
    saying Manbij would be next.

"We're in Afrin today, Manbij tomorrow," Erdogan claimed, adding they would not stop until they have reached the Iraqi border.

Turkish Foreign Minister "Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara and Washington
have reached an understanding over Manbij and the eastern side of the Euphrates in Syria.

Cavusoglu also added that Turkey and the U.S. agreed on issues about Manbij and the east of Euphrates.

He added he would meet with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on March 19."

Turkey-led forces kick-off assault to seize Afrin city from Kurdish fighters as Olive Branch operation reaches critical stage
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article...ritical-stage/

On Saturday morning, Turkey-led forces operating out of Afrin’s northern countryside (Sharan axis) sprung into action,
seizing the villages of Kurt Kulak and Kafr Rum en-route to the regional capital.

The advances of the Turkish troops and Turkish-backed militants on the ground
was backed up by strikes from Turkish warplanes which targeted frontline areas as well as Afrin city itself.

Although a direct assault on Afrin seems imminent, it appears Turkey-led forces will also attempt to bypass the city to the east
and cut off Kurdish communication lines running to it via government-controlled territory in Aleppo province.

    Erdogan:
"After removing Afrin from the terrorists (US backed YPG), we will go to Manbij, AinAlArab (Kobani), TallAbyad, RasAlAin and Qamishli to clear all these areas as well."

"The Turkish government has opened the border to tens of thousands of terrorists to infiltrate Syria, Syria’s Ambassador to the United Nations."
    Bashar Jaafari told Sputnik.
(referring to sunni Turkmen and FSA (McCain's) Rebels. It is no doubt true... along with fresh armament.)

    Al-Tanf

Syrian military sources claimed Saturday to have massed huge reinforcements in the vast desert region
between Homs in central Syria and US-held Al-Tanf on Syria’s eastern border with Iraq and Jordan ...
“tracking and foiling” the movements of US-backed SDF militias.

US Sends Hundreds of Forces to Al-Tanf Base in Southern Syria
    http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13961219000303

TEHRAN (FNA)- The US Army dispatched hundreds of fresh forces to al-Tanf base in Southeastern Homs at the border with Jordan
within the framework of an illegal presence in the war-hit country, a media outlet reported on Saturday.

    BOTTOMLINE:

Americans/hegemons have expanded the security zone (the creation of a safe haven for terrorists),
sent in 600+ troops and are aiding the smuggling of weapons to other enclaves from Al-Tanf border cross.
In addition there is the Rukban refugee camp caught 'within' the 55km/34mi 'zone'
which suffers a humanitarian crisis and is sealed off from aid convoys.

Erdogan had recently said that the US was planning to set up 20 bases in Northern Syria
and to send a large volume of arms and ammunition by 5,000 trucks and 2,000 cargo planes to the region.

Turkish-backed forces are just a matter of kilometers away from making contact with government lines.

Such units will most likely not be involved in any intervention into Afrin...
(They're there to probably 'monitor' and prevent wholesale 'slaughter' by Turkey)

Syrian forces rush tanks, troops towards east Afrin to secure major base and key town
    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article...-and-key-town/

BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:50 A.M.) – Syrian government forces are rushing armor and troops towards Kurdish-held areas of eastern Afrin (in Aleppo province)
to secure two imperative locations, the Menagh military airport and the town of Tal Riffat.

It has become apparent that a new wave of Syrian government forces (in one form or another) are being sent to Afrin
to lock-down key military sites, urban centers and checkpoint areas.
