Exclamation Survey: more young boys want to be cops than athletes

The fall of ‘athletes’ — the rise of ‘police’

    https://www.theladders.com/career-ad...n-they-grow-up

    <snip>

The biggest change in the rankings since the last report on the topic in 2015 is the fall of “athlete” as a choice; it was No. 1, now it’s No. 8.

“For boys, athlete still ranks as the third most popular dream job, but it doesn’t even crack the top ten for girls,” Fatherly writes. “The star power of athletes doesn’t seem as overwhelming as it did a few years back. Whether or not that’s a product of timing — it’s been two years since the last Olympics — the politicization of some sports figures, or harder to track cultural trends is unclear.”

Meanwhile, “police” shot up as a choice to No. 3, having been No. 10 previously.
“It is not true that all creeds and cultures are equally assimilable in a First World nation born of England, Christianity, and Western civilization. Race, faith, ethnicity and history leave genetic fingerprints no ‘proposition nation’ can erase." -- Pat Buchanan

This is not a good sign, at all. While not aspiring to be a pro athlete is a good choice for most, this many kids wanting to be cops is a terrible outcome, government education no doubt playing a huge role in this.

Well, I can certainly understand it.

I wanted to be a pitcher or a pro golfer, but by high school I knew I would probably end up in IT. On career day in high school we got to pick a career and they brought people out to take us out and show everyone what it was like. I was hoping to go to a tech company, but I ended up at a tiny little computer repair shop, lol.. on the way to his shop, he gets pulled over for speeding. The cop gets out and goes to his window to talk to him and I notice someone else is standing behind the car. I look back, and some kid from my school was standing there, he picked "cop" for his career day.. I thought that was really lame.

Funny, that has never, EVER been something I aspired to. Something is seriously wrong with some people nowadays.

I was a huge Hardy Boys fan back in the day. I wanted to be a detective, never a cop. I wanted to solve mysteries, not save the world from maniacal drivers going 11 mph faster than allowed. I gave up all aspirations by the time high school was over.

I've wanted to be a submarine captain my most of my childhood/adolescence. I thought boats were cool and submarines were cooler. When I wasn't a submarine captain, I was an Adeptus Astartes

Kids these days and their low aspirations smh Have they no love for the God-Emperor?

Not gonna lie, even now I catch myself day dreaming I'm a bank robber or jewel thief. My imagination barely lives on.

All I wanted to ever be was make a living where I could be relatively free, so I followed in in the footsteps of at least 4 other generations of men in my family and went to sea.

Now, I have ended up being everything I never wanted to be, a middle manager pusher of papers and monitor of compliance.

The sea is an open air prison these days, worse than on land.

Government school has a way of doing that.

It is all part of the plan.

It carries a level of authority and the "heroism" afforded to combat military without any of the $#@! from being in the $#@!. You get to wear a cool uniform and wear a gun without other citizens going ape-$#@!. Entry level cop pays more than an E-1. You get to drive a Dodge Carger car like a bat out of hell (I'll bet cop cars will be the last to go autonomous), and you get to $#@! people up that you have a beef with. What's NOT to like for a young sociopath?

Yeah, I was just going to say that I bet TV has a lot to do with it. I never watch TV (don't even own one) but I've been visiting my mom in Northern California and the TV is always on here. There are so many cop shows these days, one after the other. And of course the cops are portrayed as good guys, who have an exciting, manly job. If this survey is true it's no wonder that "police" has gone up on the list of "dream jobs" for boys.

I don't think I've seen those shows. But I have seen the indoctrination that cops can be above the law and not always by the book, because the ends justify the means.
