And remember that there is only so much arable land on the island and that we were working it before the invasion.

There are lots of other reasons why immigrants can lower our standard of living but working for less is NOT one of them. This is a libertarian no brainer.

And it really bothers me that many here think we have a right to a high paying job and employers have an obligation to provide us with it.

Meanwhile there's yet another thread on police shootings.

WH is strongly denying that alleged s-word statement by POTUS derailed gov shutdown talks:

White House: Trump remarks didn't derail shutdown talks

9 hours ago - White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders blamed Democrats for the stalled talks. ... The DACA negotiations have been tied to spending talks, which have also hit a snag following Trump’s comments saying certain immigrants were coming from "$#@!hole countries."

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen testified Tuesday that she did not hear President Donald Trump refer to African nations as “$#@!hole” countries — remarks he reportedly made last week that triggered an international uproar and roiled ongoing immigration talks on Capitol Hill.

Earlier,Leahy also pressed Nielsen on Trump’s reported remark that he would like more immigrants from Norway, rather than from Africa and Haiti. Nielsen responded: “I don’t believe he said that specifically.”

Partisan politics, misleading or emotional bill titles, and 4D chess theories are manifestations of the same lie—that the text of the Constitution, the text of legislation, and plain facts do not matter; what matters is what you want to believe. From this comes hypocrisy. And where hypocrisy thrives, virtue recedes. Without virtue, liberty dies. - Justin Amash, March 2018

That this is considered debatable here at a site with the mission this one has, and that those who come here and claim cheap foreign labor is economically bad don't even realize they're trolling, is unfortunate.

Keynesians telling us we shouldn't let socialists into the country. Unless they're socialists from affluent nations of course.

Affluent socialist nation? what the hell is that? I have always been told that what ever socialism and central planning touches turns to shyte. My problem with this whole debate especially on this site is that many people are being dishonest with comments. You would have on one part a poster who believes that govt and govt intervention is so bad that they would rather see a drunk driver driving on the public roads unmolested than call the cops to get them off and then in a different discussion that same anti govt person is calling on the govt to restrict immigration because in their plans for the economy and society believes that the country can no longer accommodate any more individual.

Talk about one big statist and central planning ideology all rolled in one for a non statist believer

I would hope everybody on this forum is well aware of America's rampant socialism and the penchant for American WASPs to vote for more of it.

The "but immigrants are even more socialist" argument is absurd on the face of it.

‘I love Trump,’ Uganda’s leader says, despite vulgar remark
    By Circa News
    1/23/18

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Uganda’s president says he loves President Donald Trump and that he should be praised for not mincing words.

“I love Trump because he tells Africans frankly,” President Yoweri Museveni said Tuesday, shortly after the U.S. ambassador apologized for Trump’s recent reference to African nations as “sh**hole countries.”

“I don’t know whether he was misquoted or whatever. But he talks to Africans frankly,” Museveni said. “In the world, you cannot survive if you are weak.”... more: https://www.circa.com/story/2018/01/...h-thole-remark

Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni loves Donald Trump because ‘he speaks frankly to Africans’
    Agencies - January 23, 2018

Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has told legislators in his country that he loves the controversial American president Donald Trump because ‘he talks to Africans frankly’.

‘‘America has got one of the best presidents ever, Mr. Trump. I love Trump because he tells Africans frankly,’‘ said the president.

The president who was addressing legislators during a session of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) said Africa has everything it needs in terms of size and resources to be a major world power.

‘‘Africans need to solve their problems…Africa is 12 times the size of India, in terms of land area, lots of resources and now, the population is growing. Why can’t we make Africa strong?’‘ Museveni challenged the legislators...

Patronizing Africans is racism, just like patronizing American blacks is racism.
