Woman, 67, who battled blood cancer for five years 'recovers after treating it with TURMERIC' in the first recorded case of its kind

A woman who battled blood cancer for years without success finally halted the disease with turmeric, it has been reported.

Dieneke Ferguson is now leading a normal life after giving up on gruelling treatments that failed to stop it.

Doctors say her case is the first recorded instance in which a patient has recovered by using the spice after stopping conventional medical treatments.

With her myeloma spreading rapidly after three rounds of chemotherapy and four stem cell transplants, the 67-year-old began taking 8g of curcumin a day – one of the main compounds in turmeric.

The cancer, which has an average survival of just over five years, was causing increasing back pain and she had already had a second relapse.

But it stabilised after Mrs Ferguson, from north London, came across the remedy on the internet in 2011 and decided to try it as a last resort.

The tablets are expensive – £50 for ten days – but as kitchen turmeric contains just 2 per cent curcumin it would be impossible to eat enough to get the same dose.

Mrs Ferguson, who was first diagnosed in 2007, continues to take curcumin without further treatment and her cancer cell count is negligible.

Her doctors, from Barts Health NHS Trust in London, wrote in the British Medical Journal Case Reports: ‘To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in which curcumin has demonstrated an objective response in progressive disease in the absence of conventional treatment.’

The experts, led by Dr Abbas Zaidi, said some myeloma patients took dietary supplements alongside conventional treatment but ‘few, if any, use dietary supplementation as an alternative to standard antimyeloma therapy’.

But they added: ‘In the absence of further antimyeloma treatment the patient plateaued and has remained stable for the past five years with good quality of life.’

Since the turn of the century, more than 50 studies have tested curcumin – the pigment in turmeric that gives it that bright yellow colour.

They suggest the spice can protect against several cancers, as well as Alzheimer’s, heart disease and depression.

It has also been shown to help speed recovery after surgery and effectively treat arthritis.

But although it is widely used in Eastern medicine, and has been studied for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, curcumin is not widely prescribed because it has never been tested in large-scale trials.

The doctors wrote that the ‘biological activity of curcumin is indeed remarkable’, including its ‘anti-proliferative effects in a wide variety of tumour cells’.

But Professor Jamie Cavenagh, one of the authors of the paper, stressed it may not work for all patients. He said: ‘A lot of my patients take curcumin at different stages of their treatment. I don’t object to it.

‘Dieneke’s is the best response I have observed and it is clear-cut because we had stopped all other treatment.’

Mrs Ferguson, who runs Hidden Art, a not-for-profit business helping artists market their work, is frustrated doctors cannot recommend the spice and wants more research carried out.

She said: ‘I hope my story will lead to more people finding out about the amazing health benefits of curcumin.’

Myeloma affects some 5,500 people in the UK every year, killing nearly 3,000.

Woman Claims Common Spice Stopped Her Blood Cancer After Conventional Treatments Failed

    Jan 3, 2018 DavidWolfe.com

In a stunning medical “miracle” that’s left doctors in shock, a 67-year-old patient suddenly has managed to cure her blood cancer by treating it with turmeric.
After years of conventional treatments—including chemotherapy—had failed in treating her condition, Dieneke Ferguson turned to a natural treatment for her ailment.

Doctors expressed that “her case is the first recorded instance in which a patient has recovered by using the spice after stopping conventional medical treatments.”

After 3 sessions of chemotherapy failed (along with four stem cell transplants), Mrs. Ferguson’s myeloma cancer continued to spread at a quick pace.

She then began to take 8g of curcumin daily—a substance found in turmeric spice—and the compound had quick and dramatic results.
Turmeric is an ancient Asian medicine that has long been used to treat maladies, and since few scientific studies have been conducted so far, this makes Dieneke’s story extremely important to researchers.

    The Daily Mail reports:
“The cancer, which has an average survival of just over five years, was causing increasing back pain and she had already had a second relapse.

“But it stabilised after Mrs Ferguson, from north London, came across the remedy on the internet in 2011 and decided to try it as a last resort.
“The tablets are expensive – £50 for ten days – but as kitchen turmeric contains just 2 per cent curcumin it would be impossible to eat enough to get the same dose.”

Mrs. Ferguson’s doctors from Barts Health NHS Trust in London, documented in the British Medical Journal Case Reports:

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in which curcumin has demonstrated an objective response in progressive disease in the absence of conventional treatment.”
Studies on how effective turmeric spice is for treating myeloma cancer are still ongoing as one expert, Dr Abbas Zaidi explains, “few, if any, use dietary supplementation as an alternative to standard antimyeloma therapy.”

While other researchers added, “In the absence of further antimyeloma treatment the patient plateaued and has remained stable for the past five years with good quality of life.”

However, some experts are urging the public to use restraint and not become too excited over the news.

Professor Jamie Cavenagh, one of the report’s authors, emphasized that the spice might not work for everyone:

“A lot of my patients take curcumin at different stages of their treatment. I don’t object to it.

“Dieneke’s is the best response I have observed and it is clear-cut because we had stopped all other treatment.”

Mrs. Furguson is one of around 5,500 people to be affected by myeloma every year. The disease is said to kill around 3,000 annually.

As for Dieneke, she says she’s “frustrated” that doctors are unlikely going to be prescribing the spice to other patients any time soon.

“I hope my story will lead to more people finding out about the amazing health benefits of curcumin,” she said.

Woman Halts Cancer in Its Tracks With Turmeric

A woman who battled with blood cancer for more than a decade has stunned doctors by defeating the disease with turmeric.

Dieneke Ferguson, 67, from London, was diagnosed with the myeloma in 2007 and had gone through three rounds of chemotherapy and four stem cell transplants in a bid to treat the deadly disease, reported Metro.

Patients diagnosed with myeloma only have an average survival of just over five years, making it one of the most deadly forms of cancer, reported the newspaper. Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, a type of white blood cells. If not treated, the disease can lead to a weaker immune system, kidney damage, bone pain, and fractures, according to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

After years of back pain and two relapses, Ferguson came across a website in 2011 alleging that curcumin—one of the main compounds of turmeric—could remedy the condition. As a last resort, she decided to try it.

She started taking 8 grams of curcumin in tablet form daily—about two teaspoons—with little hope that she would recover from the rapidly spreading cancer.

But Ferguson and doctors were shocked when her cancer started to stabilize. From that point on, her condition remarkably improved and her life changed drastically.

“Here we describe a myeloma patient who started a daily dietary supplement of curcumin when approaching her third relapse,” Dr. Abbas Zaidi, a hematologist at Barts NHS Health Trust told the Mirror.

“In the absence of further antimyeloma treatment, the patient plateaued and has remained stable for the last five years with good quality of life,” he added.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in which curcumin has demonstrated an objective response in progressive disease in the absence of conventional treatment,” doctors from Barts Health NHS Trust in London, wrote in the British Medical Journal Case Reports, reported Metro.

The tablets, from an Indian company called Sabinsa, contain a concentrated dose of curcumin and are quite expensive—about US$68 for a 10-day course. Regular kitchen turmeric, on the other hand, will not be able to treat cancer due to its weaker concentration of curcumin—about 2 percent.

“Curcumin is a polyphenol derived from the perennial herb turmeric and has—for centuries—been used as a traditional Indian medicine,” Zaidi wrote in the BMJ Case Reports.

“Several reports published over the two decades have claimed various health benefits of curcumin and this has led to its increasing popularity as a dietary supplement to prevent or treat a number of different diseases. The biological activity of curcumin is indeed remarkable,” he added.

Ferguson continues to take curcumin without further anti-myeloma treatment and her cancer cell count is now negligible, reported the newspaper.

“I hope my story will lead to more people finding out about the amazing health benefits of curcumin,” Ferguson told Metro.

In 2017, the United States anticipated approximately 12,590 deaths from myeloma and an estimate of 30,280 new cases of the disease was expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2017, according to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

It is recommended that anyone considering the treatment consult a doctor or healthcare professional.
