I really do not think that the idea of "flat earth" is actually the conclusion of scientifically misguided people, but nothing short of a Smear Campaign against anyone who questions or challenges the current narrative. The REAL reason that there is so much mention of "flat earthers" goes after the Reputation of Conspiracy Theorists. Flat Earth is nothing more than a way to damage their credibility.
We all know governments lie. Big time. And, just as much as they lie, there are those of us who call out the elected or govt officials on their lies. The objective is quite simple, but in a round about way. By damaging the reputation of Conspiracy Theorists, any actual truth that is brought to light of govt misdeeds is immediately discredited by the majority of people based on an emotional reaction.
"Tin Foil Hat" is another commonly associated theme with Conspiracy Theorists. But what happens when the Conspiracy Theorist is actually correct? Imagine this scenario for just a sec. A guy comes running out of a convenience store and runs up to a cop saying there is a guy in the store having a heart attack. If the guy looks "normal" to the Cop, like he is wearing a business suit or some sort of official uniform, then the cop will call in the report and have an ambulance dispatched. Same scenario, different guy. Now, imagine the same guy comes running out, but instead of looking "normal", again, to the Cop, and is a hippie with long hair, unshaven, Hawaiian shirt, no shoes, sunglasses, and talks like he is stoned, while literally wearing Tin Foil on his head, the expected reaction the cop would have just based on the guys appearance and demeanor will be seriously compromised, thus, any information the guy presents will also most likely be rejected due to an emotional reaction based on Normalcy Bias by the cop.
Now, try to put widely varied types of people into the same situation trying to report an actual emergency to the cop. Put in a politician. Cop will believe it. Put in an illegal immigrant that doesnt speak a lick of english. Cop will again most likely believe it, despite their immigration status. Put in a doctor. Same thing, cop believes it. Put in a construction worker, hockey player, blue collar factory employee, milk man, UPS driver, child, fat guy, senior citizen, Russian National, pretty woman dressed up for going bar hopping, anyone. Damn near every single type of stereotype that can be imagined, the cop will not question the credibility of the information presented about the situation EXCEPT for a guy who literally wears a Tin Foil Hat.
THAT is the true objective of constantly attacking Flat Earthers. I dont really think they exist. There may be a few people that are gullible enough to fall for the idea, but the real intent is to destroy the credibility of Conspiracy Theorists by creating a subconscious association between any sort of Conspiracy, real or not, with the most ridiculous hair brained stupidiotic far fetched whack job bull$#@! ideas that only the dumbest of the dumb would fall for. The result of misrepresenting what a Conspiracy Theorist actually thinks seriously damages the credibility of any information those who are branded with a Scarlett A offer.
Once Conspiracy Theorists are branded and generally rejected by the majority of people, other associations are made that are intended to cover up the truth, this time, not based on appearance or clothing or any actual Tin Foil, but based on a certain criteria of ideas. The types of ideas that are given association are based on ridiculous ideas like Flat Earth or Tin Foil and extended to questioning the Federal Reserve, Kennedy Assassination, and pretty much anything that is anti government. This greatly holds back both scientific advancement as well as political balance. If you take someone who has been branded as a Conspiracy Theorist and let them explain that water does not always boil at 212 degrees fahrenheit due to variations in air pressure, their scientific conclusion is thrown right out the window based on a Pavlovian emotional triggered reaction and not a logical one.
Now, lets get back to the original article. It is nothing more than an attack on the reputation of Conspiracy Theorists because it tries very hard to create an association between Conspiracy Theorists, which are not literally mentioned but are associated, along with more ridiculous ideas in an effort to make them look as bad as can be created.
Original article is FAKE NEWS. PURE PROPAGANDA.
But lets go even further. There very well may be a real person that believes the information they are reporting to be factual. The reporter thinks that a Flat Earther Movement may be real. I highly doubt it. The reporter failed to challenge the ideas presented to them because it paints Conspiracy Theorists in a negative light, which validates their World View, so they immediately accept the idea without challenging. This is a way to Brainwash people as well as to exploit flaws in the human mind. One thing that I failed to mention was the Viral Nature of Brainwashing in general. Once a bias on any given idea has been established, the natural action is to spread the idea, thus, the idea behaves like a virus. Hence, we end up with things like "Viral Videos" or "Viral News". Viruses in general survive by spreading regardless if the effects of the virus itself bring harm to those infected by it. The idea here is Viral to associate ridiculous ideas with Conspiracy Theorists. That is a MAJOR part of Propaganda; its viral nature. And the sources of the Propaganda are quite often legitimate people who have found a way to perceive some bit of given information in a way that validates their World View. The viral nature of ideas in and of itself is exploited by the Propaganda machine in govt and MSM so that "normal" people begin to attack anything that violates the views desired by those in power.
True Propaganda exploits human nature and our natural tendencies to not challenge all ideas as they are presented to us.
