Abby Martin: Kushner invested in settlements, Israeli soldiers shot Palestinians in genitals

Caution, very strong language in this video where Trump supporter Joe Rogan interviwes Abby Martin who spent a month in Palestine. So far these shocking claims have not been confirmed by MSM.

Turkish president calls Israel a ‘terror state’
By Associated Press
December 10, 2017
Turkey’s president has escalated his vitriol over the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, calling Israel a “terror state.”
In a speech Sunday in central Turkey, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, “Israel is a terror state.” He called Israeli forces “terrorists,” referring to a photograph of a blindfolded
Palestinian youth being led away by more than a dozen soldiers in the West Bank. “We won’t leave Jerusalem to the mercy of a child-murdering country,” Erdogan said, accusing Israel of having no values other than “occupation and plunder.”
Erdogan said Turkey would continue its diplomatic efforts to reverse President Trump’s announcement, which he calls “null.”

How corporate media tacitly justify the murder of Palestinian children

US Politics Steven Salaita on December 11, 2017
On Friday, Israel commenced yet another bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip. The corporate media tried to absolve Israel by deploying the language of reprisal, such as the BBC headline “Israel strikes Gaza Hamas sites after rocket attacks”. Steven Salaita writes that efforts to render Israel perpetually embattled aren’t simply tricks of perspective; they also reinforce tendentious discourses: “What first looks like standard reportage—a delivery of apparent facts, complete with views from both sides—is actually stock dissimulation that (intentionally or not) confers responsibility for harming children not on the Israeli bombers, but on the people who endured their detonation.”

Detained Palestinian teen in viral photo to be sentenced in a court with a 99.74 percent conviction rate

Sheren Khalel on December 18, 2017

Fawzi al-Junaidi, 16, has been accused of throwing stones. Photo by Wisam Hashlamoun/Anadolu Agency/Getty Images.

Fawzi al-Junaidi, 16, will be taken in for a hearing in Israel’s military court today, after being held for more than a week in Israeli detention.
Junaidi was detained during clashes that erupted in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron on Dec. 7, the day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
A photo taken by photographer Wisam Hashlamoun during the arrest went viral, as it showed the disoriented and blindfolded teen being manhandled, surrounded by at least twenty fully-armed Israeli soldiers as he was taken away.
Brad Parker, the International Advocacy Officer & Attorney for Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP), told Mondoweiss that the photo should be seen as a symbol of Israel’s normal practices concerning Palestinian children, and not a special circumstance.
“The image provided a vivid and raw snapshot of the disparity in power inherent in Israel’s military occupation of Palestinians and helped expose the persistent widespread, systematic and institutionalized ill-treatment of Palestinian child detainees by Israeli forces,” Parker said.
Fawzi’s lawyer, Farah Bayadsi, told media that the teen had been beaten, showing up with “bruises all over his neck, chest and back.” The teen said soldiers beat him with a rifle.
Fawzi is being accused of throwing stones during clashes, a claim he denies. If found guilty, the maximum charge for stone throwing is 20 years in Israeli prison.
The likelihood that Fawzi will be found guilty is high, as 99.74 percent of all cases brought to Israel’s military court end in a guilty verdict, according to the court’s own internal documentation.
However, Parker said the court is not flawed, but rather it works just as it was designed to.
“As Palestinian children like Fawzi continue to experience widespread ill-treatment and torture and the systematic denial of due process rights, it is evident the Israeli military detention and court system is not interested in justice,” Parker explained. “What emerges is a system of control that masquerades as justice. The military detention system is not broken, it is working exactly as intended to deny fundamental rights.”

Israeli forces shoot boy in face, arrest cousin for protesting, her mother for looking into it

Sheren Khalel on December 19, 2017

Ahed Tamimi with her father, Bassem, and mother Nariman

Israeli soldiers forced their way into the Nariman and Bassem Tamimi’s home before dawn on Tuesday, the way they have done dozens of times before — only this time instead of leaving with Nariman or Bassem, they arrested the couple’s 16-year-old daughter, Ahed Tamimi.
It is alleged that Ahed was arrested for slapping a soldier during a demonstration the day before. The demonstration was organized to protest Israel’s use of force during a protest on Friday, when Ahed’s 14-year-old cousin Mohammed was shot in the face by an Israeli soldier, leaving him in critical condition. After a six-hour surgery the boy was put into a medically induced coma for at least 72 hours.

With a population of just 600, the community in Nabi Saleh is a tight-knit group, with one of her family’s children in the hospital, expected to be brought out of his coma that day, and her daughter being held in some unknown location by the Israeli government, Nariman was overloaded with tragedy.

"This documentary film aims to explain why ... US public opinion favors Israel so markedly. ... Roger Waters narrates that during the July 2014 Israeli assault on Gaza, lasting 51 days — using 20 thousand tons of explosives — “The sheer scale of the attack provoked outrage and condemnation around the world. “But in the United States the story was different. Polls showed the American people holding firm in their support for Israel.”Aerial surveys of Gaza now show vast wastelands and ruins of that urban area, holding more than 1.8 million people, the majority exiles from present-day Israel. ...

During operation Protective Shield (summer 2014), as during Operation Cast Lead (2008-09), the plea that “Israel has the right to defend itself” dominated American reporting. ... American politicians (up to President Obama) and US newscasters all repeating the same lines of Israeli vulnerability and Arab menace. ...
“When a narrative is so dominant, without any visible dissent or complication, it’s extremely difficult to make clear to people that it is basically a propaganda story." ... The procession of American presidential candidates at last week’s American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) policy conference in Washington (except for Senator Bernie Sanders) gave a graphic demonstration of the place of Israel as something like an honorary US state. ... So soldiers shoot her teenage cousin in the head putting him into a coma, with no charges. Then they storm into Ahed Tamimi's backyard armed to the teeth, and this petite sixteen year ball of fire gives them an earful and slaps the home invader telling him to get out.

So then days later they come and storm her house in the middle of the night, and seize this sixteen year old girl. They record the capture of this "dangerous criminal" all on film and photographs and broadcasts and parade it around. Charge her with multiple felonies facing decades in prison, and threaten her father that he is under investigation, and the Israeli government says we're supposed to be outraged at the teenage girl for the horrible crime of doing far less than anyone of us ought to do? WTF were the storm troopers in her back yard?

And they only went and arrested her only after the video clip got millions of views.
The real crime is hurt feelings by the Israeli government, exposing it, and making its storm troopers look wimpy. They are upset that her family uses social media to upload clips. For that, this sixteen year old poses an existential threat to the police state and therefore she and her family must be made an example of.
I think instead, the goofballs running the Israeli government are about to make this young Palestinian activist the worldwide face of resistance.

Israel Extends Custody of Palestinian Teen Ahed

Ahed Tamimi, the 16-year-old Palestinian girl who was recently filmed slapping Israeli soldiers in her village, Nabi Saleh, had her detention extended on Monday for four additional days, through Thursday. Her cousin, Nour Tamimi, the second girl who appeared in the clip, and Ahed’s mother, Nariman, also had their detention extended. …

Police said the extension of their detention was necessary due to the danger Ahed poses, and to prevent obstruction of the investigations. …

The court postponed the appeals regarding the extension of Ahed Tamimi’s custody, and during the deliberations police brought up additional suspicions against her. …

Judge Benisho accepted police claims that Ahed Tamimi presents a danger, and that she could impede soldiers in their work. Last week, Judge Maj. Limor Drachman of the Minor’s Court in Judea extended Ahed’s detention to Monday, on suspicion that she would try to injure IDF soldiers.

The Israeli military has indicted Ahed Tamimi with 12 separate counts, with a purported potential prison sentence well in excess of 50 years. She remains in the custody of the Israeli military and will be prosecuted by the Israeli military, and tried by an Israeli military court known for its 99.7 percent conviction rate. That is certain to be a fair and impartial trial. Her cousin Nour is charged with assault and faces a 10 year prison sentence.

From Mondoweiss: Israel Blaming its Victim

It’s been called the “slap heard around the world.” … Before we consider whether Ahed deserves a life behind bars … Is it the 16-year-old girl who dares to raise her hand to a fully armed Israeli soldier who is the criminal? Or is it the ongoing illegal occupation that places soldiers in the lives of unarmed teenage girls?

In 2011 … Israeli soldiers arrested her father and charged him with the crime of organizing weekly demonstrations in their village to oppose the theft of its land for the benefit of a neighboring Israeli settlement. It would be 13 months before he was released and she would see her father again.

That same year, Israeli soldiers shot Mustafa Tamimi, Ahed’s 28-year-old cousin, in the face with a high velocity tear gas canister. Half of Mustafa’s face was destroyed. He passed away the next morning …

The following year … Israeli soldiers shot her uncle, Rushdi Tamimi, in his lower back with live ammunition. The bullet lodged in his stomach and he died the next morning in the hospital.

Ahed was 13 when Israeli soldiers shot her mother in the leg … More of her cousins and brothers have been injured and served time in Israeli prisons than is simple to count.

Just before the “slap heard round the world” on December 15, 2017, Ahed’s 14-year-old cousin, Mohammed Tamimi was hit directly in the face with a rubber coated steel bullet. During the incident, Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters at Ahed’s house shattering many of its windows. They then stationed themselves in the yard of the house. …

Israel is notorious for claiming they are being oppressed by the people they hold hostage. In this case, they have taken aim at a 16-year old girl, claiming she, with her bare hand, is a larger than life threat to them and their first class military might. … remember whose who is the occupier and who is the occupied. …

Another from Mondoweiss:

Ahed Tamimi offers Israelis a lesson worthy of Gandhi

Eventually, colonized peoples bring to the fore a figure best suited to challenge the rotten values at the core of the society oppressing them. Ahed is well qualified for the task.

She was charged last week with assault and incitement after she slapped two heavily armed Israeli soldiers as they refused to leave the courtyard of her family home … Her mother, Nariman, is in detention for filming the incident. …

Ahed lashed out shortly after soldiers nearby shot her 15-year-old cousin in the face, seriously injuring him.

Western commentators have largely denied Ahed the kind of effusive support offered to democracy protesters in places such as China and Iran. Nevertheless, this Palestinian schoolgirl – possibly facing a long jail term for defying her oppressors – has quickly become a social media icon. …

she has struck a blow against the self-deception of a highly militarised and masculine culture. She has also given troubling form to the until-now anonymised Palestinian children Israel accuses of stone-throwing.

Palestinian villages like Nabi Saleh are regularly invaded by soldiers. Children are dragged from their beds in the middle of the night, as happened to Ahed during her arrest last month … Human rights groups document how children are routinely beaten and tortured in detention. … hundreds pass through Israeli jails each year … With conviction rates in Israeli military courts of more than 99 percent, the guilt and incarceration of such children is a foregone conclusion. …

Over the past 16 years, Israel’s army has killed on average 11 children a month. …

Naftali Bennett, the education minister, called for Ahed to “end her life in jail”. …

a media debate that has characterised the soldiers’ failure to beat Ahed in response to her slaps as a “national shame”. …

Ben Caspit, a leading Israeli analyst … proposed subjecting her to retribution “in the dark, without witnesses and cameras” … That fantasy – of cold-bloodedly violating an incarcerated child – should have sickened every Israeli. …

exposing the sickness of a society addicted to dehumanising and oppressing Palestinians, including children

The United Nations has stated that people under occupation are allowed to use “all available means”, including armed struggle, to liberate themselves.

But Ahed, the villagers of Nabi Saleh and many Palestinians like them have preferred to adopt a different strategy – a confrontational, militant civil disobedience. … popular unarmed resistance – if it is to discomfort Israel and the world – cannot afford to be passive or polite. It must be fearless, antagonistic and disruptive. … it must hold up a mirror to the oppressor. Ahed has exposed the gun-wielding bully lurking in the soul of too many Israelis. That is a lesson worthy of Gandhi or Mandela.

Slapping an Israeli Soldier More Newsworthy than Shooting a Palestinian Child in the Face

Israeli soldiers shot 14-year-old Palestinian Mohammad Tamimi point-blank in the face with a rubber-jacketed bullet on December 14, 2017, in Nabi Saleh … The boy had to undergo six hours of surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma.

An hour later, Mohammad’s cousin, Ahed Tamimi, slapped and kicked at an armed Israeli soldier. Early the next week, after video of Ahed’s actions went viral, Israeli soldiers raided the Tamimi home at 3 a.m., arresting Ahed and confiscating the family’s phones, computers and laptops.

Ahed has been denied bail and could face years in prison. …

Erasing the shooting
Newsweek described the incident as Ahed “assaulting Israeli soldiers,” “threatening two Israeli soldiers and then hitting them in the face,” “pushing the soldiers as well as kicking them, hitting them in the face and throwing stones at them.” … It failed to report that Israeli soldiers had just shot and severely injured her 14-year-old cousin.

CNN also ran a piece that left out the most serious act of violence that day, as did Reuters. An Associated Press report had the same deficiency …

The Newsweek piece also failed to note that the Israeli soldiers are members of a military force that has been occupying the West Bank for 50 years. Nor does CBS’s December 21 account … The fact that occupied people have a legal right to resist occupation is left out … New York Times does not mention that Mohammad Tamimi was shot in the face with a rubber bullet until the 13th paragraph …

Normalizing military tribunals

The Newsweek piece says Tamimi “has now been indicted on five counts of assaulting security forces,” … At no point does the article mention that the proceedings are taking place in a military court. Similarly, an Associated Press report refers to “Israel’s hard-charging prosecution” and “the charges” against Tamimi, without mentioning that she is being tried by the same occupying military that shot her cousin. …

According to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are subjected to a military court system that “does not grant the right to due process and the rights derived from it,” whereas Israelis illegally colonizing the Occupied Territories have the rights and privileges of a civilian legal system.

In the military courts, the age of majority is 16, … Defence for Children International Palestine (DCIP) … reports that Israeli military court judges, who are either active duty or reserve officers in the Israeli military, “rarely exclude evidence obtained by coercion or torture, including confessions drafted in Hebrew, a language most Palestinian children do not understand.” The Israeli military courts’ conviction rate of greater than 99 percent underscores how stacked they are against Palestinians. …

The New York Times’ framing of Tamimi’s story suggests that the case’s central issue is whether Palestinians or Israelis would have been better off if the soldier had reacted more violently … The paper even implied that Palestinians may be happy that Tamimi was arrested …

CNN similarly trivialized Tamimi’s arrest …

there is much this framing overlooks. For example, none of the above-mentioned articles mention the risk of Tamimi being seriously harmed in Israeli jails. Yet UNICEF charges Israel with subjecting Palestinian youth to “practices that amount to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention against Torture.” These include children “being aggressively awakened in the middle of the night by many armed soldiers and being forcibly brought to an interrogation center tied and blindfolded, sleep-deprived,” and “threatened with death, physical violence, solitary confinement and sexual assault, against themselves or a family member.”

Israel’s well-documented mistreatment of Palestinian youth is ignored in these reports, which suggests it is not Palestinian parents but Western reporters who are interested in crafting a public relations spectacle.

Individuals and private groups exposing crimes is not government intervention.
Individual Americans have every right to speak out and expose the criminal government of Israel and its disgusting acts.
Don't confuse the private acts and speech and efforts of individuals and private groups acting in their own capacity with those of government interventionism.

The neoconist interventionism is the US government supporting the occupation, land stealing, crop destroying, livestock poisoning, bull-dozing of homes, murders, kidnappings, shootings, home invasions, confiscations, concentration camp zones, interrogations, and more is being funded and supported by the US government with $3 billion in direct aid annually, plus billions more in indirect support through military tactical and advisory aid and support, state department aid and political cover, and US lobbying on behalf of the foreign interest, covering up the crimes, silencing criticism, opposing criticism. That is there the intervention is.

If you truly opposed intervention, you would be calling out this interventionism and exposing it and calling to end it, not attacking those who do, or partaking in the cover up and suppression of truth.

The idea that there is anything particularly unique about the behavior of Israel's government is a conception out of a naive utopian fantasy world. This planet has more dirty, brutal governments than otherwise.

And given the issues that we have right here in the USA, all stones are cast from the most brittle of glass houses.

Until we clean our act up, Americans whose focus is abroad have their eye off the ball.

This country has been run by organized crime families for a long time. We need to put a stop to that before we point any fingers at anybody else. We have not the moral authority here to judge, when our own house is in disorder.

Hilarious that this pack of alleged anarchists can't see that Israel played the anarchist game in an anarchic neighborhood and won. But this place has always been a magnet for this kind of insincere hypocrite hasn't it.
Spoken like a true neocon level statist government butt kisser (when the government is Israel). With that collectivist rant and ass kissing defense of horrific police state level statism the thoughtomator wins the award:

Except there are some things particularly unique. For one, thoughtomato uniquely goes out of his way to specially defend against any criticism of police state by Israel as opposed to defending other governments against such criticism such as N. Korea, Saudi Arabia, or Spain vs Catalonians, or Merkel or Macron, or EU, or UK's craziness or subjugation of Assange to the embassy, etc.

You also have government in the USA uniquely suppressing, even criminalizing criticism of the government of Israel.

Additionally, aside from the fact that that government's level of police state statism over the Palestinians easily places it in the top five worst police state offenders, it also willfully ignores the elephant in the room that the U.S. government is the enabler, protector, funder and participant for the police state activities, theft, aggression. Without Washington's colossal interventionist acts and policies, direct and indirect support and weapons and money cover and logistics and training and advice and protection, the entire police state occupation of Palestine collapses.

Ah, that reminds me why I stopped participating here... goal-seeking fauxlosophers without an honest bone in their body and radically Marxist in rhetoric.

"Anti-semitic" Christian Zionism is probably just as big a factor but there is a powerful Israel lobby causing US tax payers funding to finance unjust policies, oppression, occupation, racism etc by a timy militarized foreign country and Americans have been on the receiving end of facing the blowback from this policy. Israel is not just another foreign country with policing brutality, it has a special place in some US tax payers hearts and in many taxpayers pockets.
If you disagree still, what do you think caused WTC1/2/7 fall, Iraqi freedm war bloodbath that led to millions of Americans getting killed/maimed/going homeless, historic elections of Barack Hussein Obama, Trump?

This is not a usual situation from standpoint of Americans.

Israel courts and laws are bit special from racism standpoint.
For example, an Arab Christian could not go to prison in US for lying about his race on a romantic date:

Arab guilty of rape after consensual sex with Jew
A man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after telling a woman that he was also Jewish

Jo Adetunji and Harriet Sherwood in Jerusalem

A Palestinian man has been convicted of rape after having consensual sex with a woman who had believed him to be a fellow Jew.

Sabbar Kashur, 30, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Monday after the court ruled that he was guilty of rape by deception. According to the complaint filed by the woman with the Jerusalem district court, the two met in downtown Jerusalem in September 2008 where Kashur, an Arab from East Jerusalem, introduced himself as a Jewish bachelor seeking a serious relationship. The two then had consensual sex in a nearby building before Kashur left.
When she later found out that he was not Jewish but an Arab, she filed a criminal complaint for rape and indecent assault.
