House Leadership Will Add Pelosi-Era Gun Controls to National Reciprocity
    by AWR Hawkins - 6 Dec 2017

On December 4 Breitbart News reported that House Leadership plans to add gun control legislation to Rep. Richard Hudson’s (R-NC) national reciprocity bill when it comes to the floor for a vote.

Breitbart News has since learned that the legislation being eyed by House Leadership is similar to background check legislation that was pushed while Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was Speaker of the House. That push, which ultimately passed and was signed by George W. Bush, consisted of “improving” the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) but was subsequently parlayed into expanding the number and types of persons listed as prohibited from gun purchases.

Barack Obama’s Social Security gun ban was a clear example of how the Pelosi-era gun controls matured. Obama’s ban opened the door to prohibiting gun purchases by Social Security beneficiaries who required help managing their finances. The Social Security gun ban did not necessarily target harmful people, but it did threaten the gun rights of a large swath of elderly persons whose only means of defense might be the .38 Special revolver or 9mm pistol on the nightstand.
    ...
A repeal of the Social Security gun ban was signed by President Trump in February 2017, but the “fix-NICS” gun control House Leadership plans to piggyback on national reciprocity runs the risk of putting bureaucrats between Americans and their guns once more. Gun Owners of America reports that “‘fix-NICS’ would require that the rolls of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and ObamaCare be trolled for recipients with PTSD, ADHD, or Alzheimer’s — that is, people who have had guardians appointed.”

Sure it will. Typical Capitol Hill skullduggery. That's why all bills need to be stand alone and voted up or down on their own merit.
Theye have refused their Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

Theye have erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

Theye kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies

Theye have combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution,

For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:

Theye plundered and destroyed the lives of our people.

Theye are at this time transporting Armies of Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of a civilized nation.

The House has approved a Republican bill making it easier for gun owners to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines. The bill is the first gun legislation in Congress since mass shootings in Nevada and Texas killed more than 80 people.
The House approved the bill Wednesday, 231-198.
The bill is a top priority of the National Rifle Association, which calls it an important step to allow gun owners to travel freely between states without worrying about conflicting state laws or civil suits.
Opponents, mostly Democrats, say the bill could endanger public safety by overriding state laws that place strict limits on guns.
Democratic Rep. Elizabeth Esty of Connecticut called it "unspeakable" that Congress would expand gun owners' rights after the recent shootings and other deadly attacks.

Many Democrats were also incensed that the bill was merged with two other measures with bipartisan support. One would fill in holes in the National Criminal Instant Background Check system (NCIS) that were highlighted after a mass shooting at a Texas church last month, in which the gunman, a former Air Force member, was able to buy guns even though he had a criminal record that the military failed to report to the database.
The other would direct the Bureau of Justice Statistics to study all crimes involving firearms and report back to Congress in six months about how many involved weapons with "bump fire stocks," accessories that can allow semi-automatic weapons guns to fire at a rate similar automatic ones. The shooter responsible for killing 58 people and injuring nearly 500 more attending a Las Vegas concert in October used bump stocks to direct large amounts of ammunition on the crowd, and members from both parties have called for ban on them.
Hastings predicted the measure was "going nowhere" in the Senate, where Republicans control the chamber but would need backing from eight Democrats to avoid a filibuster.
Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the number two Senate GOP Leader, said on Monday that merging the gun bills complicated the path forward in the Senate and suggested splitting off the background check fix. He has a bipartisan bill on that issue with Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy.
"I support both of those bills but I recognize that if you combine them it makes it a lot harder to pass the consensus bill which is the fix NICS bill," Cornyn said. "And I think it's important enough that we ought to handle those sequentially, would be my advice."
