    About 50 years ago, the sugar industry stopped funding research that began to show something they wanted to hide: that eating lots of sugar is linked to heart disease. A new study exposes the sugar industry's decades-old effort to stifle that critical research. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, recently analyzed historical documents regarding a rat study called Project 259 that was launched in 1968. The study was funded by a sugar industry trade group called the International Sugar Research Foundation, or ISRF, and conducted by W. F. R. Pover at the University of Birmingham. When the preliminary findings from that study began to show that eating lots of sugar might be associated with heart disease, and even bladder cancer, the ISRF pulled the plug on the research. Without additional funding, the study was terminated and the results were never published, according to a study published today in PLOS Biology. The study in question investigated the relationship between sugars and certain blood fats called triglycerides, which increase the risk of heart disease. The preliminary results from the research, called Project 259, suggested that rats on a high-sugar diet, instead of a starch diet, had higher levels of triglycerides. The rats that ate lots of sugar also had higher levels of an enzyme called beta-glucuronidase in their urine, which at the time was thought to be potentially linked to bladder cancer, says study co-author Cristin Kearns, an assistant professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry.

    For the past year, a group of researchers with the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), has reviewed historical scientific literature funded by the Sugar Research Foundation since the 1960s, which gives us a great perspective on how the war on saturated fats became public policy.

    These researchers at UCSF have revealed how the Sugar Research Foundation influenced Harvard medical researchers financially and otherwise to report open-ended inconclusive research that omitted a lot of conclusive negative health data.

    Their first article was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA Internal Medicine) in 2016. The title of the study is Sugar Industry and Coronary Heart Disease Research: A Historical Analysis of Internal Industry Documents.

    The New York Times, which has given some press to exposing the saturated fat myth for about ten years now, was one of the few mainstream media outlets that covered the UCSF study: "How the Sugar Industry Shifted Blame to Fat."

    NPR was another news source that covered the UCSF study in 2016: "50 Years Ago, Sugar Industry Quietly Paid Scientists To Point Blame At Fat."

    The same UCSF team of researchers had another paper published last month (November 2017) by the open access journal PLOS Biology titled, "Sugar industry sponsorship of germ-free rodent studies linking sucrose to hyperlipidemia and cancer: An historical analysis of internal documents.”

    The UCSF researchers managed to get research data that was never published. The study was not completed because the sugar industry was not getting the pro-sugar “science” they had sought.

    The science actually led to the conclusion that refined sugar is implicated in heart disease and cancer.

    I tried to avoid all refined carbohydrates especially sugar and all other refined "cane" products. I have said this 1000s of times: Your body can make it's own DNA brand of sugar given the right nutrients. All sugars are bad for you unless it is in a fruit or vegetable. Even honey should only be consumed as a medicine or applied topically. It is the best burn remedy there is if it is unrefined.

    Natural doctors call sugar white death for a reason even rats won't eat it. I think it is being used to kill off the population.

    White sugar honestly meets all the definitions of an addictive drug. This why it is such big business. Just add the term "healthy" to a sugar and it will be wildly popular, even if it actually is no more healthy than cane sugar, such as is the case with Agave, and now Coconut Palm Sugar.

    Tobacco companies tried to hide science linking tobacco to cancer. Fortunately, real scientists understand bias is why the scientific method is necessary.

    Maybe you should watch more Youtube science shows.

    Sugar offers nothing nutritious to the body--no fiber, no minerals, no proteins, no fats, no enzymes, only empty calories. Copious amounts of sugar also depletes the body of stored nutrients. There are many studies out there that show sugar also feeds cancer.

    Pure sea salt and Himalayan salt (NOT Table salt) replenish 84 minerals back into the body. The body needs salt.

    Contrary to what people have been told for years about salt:
