Exclamation To the top of Mt. Washington NH in a record setting 6m 20.4s

I am going to $#@!ing do this at least once before I die, no matter what it takes.

Sweet holy heapings of heavenly $#@!...I've driven that road many times at 20 mph and it's enough to put your nuts in your throat.

I had no idea they allowed speed runs of any sort.

That, literally, gave me chills and goose bumps.

Well AF, we're going to miss you, but at least you'll die with a lot of spectacle.

Or were you planning on doing things after doing this ?

I like to see myself as a good driver, but, I'm pretty sure I would die if I attempted to replicate this.

I'm sure I'll not be getting a Red Bull Sponsorship and setting a world record any time soon, but I'd be in my glory to do it in twice that time.

I missed a VW diesel rally once, I had just come down and they were set to make the run up, about 100 VW Golfs, Jettas, Rabbits, you name it.

I can just imagine Mrs. AF sitting in the passenger seat reading off the turns and lengths/directions while you attempt a record climb in a big ford truck.

She just about came un-manufactured the last time I drove up in the Jetta, which handled like a go kart.

There would be nothing but shrieking, and vomiting from the passenger side.

She won't ride in my truck anyway.

No fargin' way. A lot different when the road is closed to oncoming traffic.

He's breaking 100 mph in spots, never mind oncoming traffic.

Yeah no breaking for moose, deer, bears, turkey's or anything. Good job, but no thanks.

My OP was from a few years ago.

Travis Pastrana broke his old record last year, and I missed it until just now, when I found this video while doing some research for a motorcycle speed run I may take part in, during bike week.

    In-$#@!ing-credible

    5:20 Mark

Passenger: "Right 4 minus. Or right 4 plus! Sorry!!"

And what did he say when the driver sort of went off the side and brushed that rock? It sounded like, "Watch your punctures!"

    Crazy mutha $#@!as!!!

Watch the new one I just posted of him breaking his own record last year.

Heart stopping, especially if you know this road.

It's a lot longer road and a much higher elevation than my commute to my old job but I don't think the curves are nearly as tight. Of course, I never drove that fast either.

I'm not hip to rally driving, but just based on the context, he is calling out curves, right or left, severity of the turn +1 to +5 and so on and negative or positive road camber.

Having driven that road numerous times in a number of vehicles, that unpaved part does have a la Carretera de la Muerte feel to it.

I'm looking forward to motorcycling it this summer.

This used to be mostly a dirt road. My dad when he was in the Army would race up the dirt road with his friends. (no guard rails).

I have been up it a few times...but not going very fast.

Same. His steering input showed how he's basically balancing on the edge of a knife, inches from a long ride down the mountain. Crazy.

    No, just no.

I white knuckle it when Mr A accelerbrakes on straight, flat roads.

Accelerbraking is a word I invented to describe how Mr A pulls up to anything. For example, if he see brake lights in front of him, he hits the gas and doesn't bother with the brake until the last second. O_O

Yeah, I skimmed thru that. No sidekick that time. Plus, he stops long enough to wave at spectators!

Again and damn it, had no idea he was making another run, would have loved to have been there.

    Absolutely amazing driving.
