CIA chief: “We are going to become a much more vicious agency,”

CIA chief: if Kim Jong-Un should disappear… uh, let’s not talk about it

    by AFP19 Oct 20172
Washington (AFP) – The US Central Intelligence Agency thinks that North Korea’s Kim Jong-un is a rational actor who is focused on staying in power and “waking up in his own bed” each day.

But if Kim should suddenly not show up for work, well, don’t ask US spy chief Mike Pompeo about it.

“With respect to, if Kim Jong-Un should vanish, given the history of the CIA, I’m just not going to talk about it,” the CIA director said Thursday, when asked what would happen if Kim suddenly died.

“Someone might think there was a coincidence. ‘You know, there was an accident.’ It’s just not fruitful,” he said to laughs from a Washington audience full of national security officials.

The US agency has a dark history of involvement in plots to overthrow or eliminate leaders in countries like Iran, Cuba, Congo, Vietnam and Chile.

North Korea alleged earlier this year that the CIA working with South Korean intelligence had tried to kill Kim, 33, without offering any proof.

Pompeo, speaking to a forum held by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, stressed that US policy was to “diplomatically and economically challenge the North Korean regime” to convince Kim to pull back on his emerging nuclear threat to the United States.

“Kim Jong-Un’s mission is just to stay in power,” he said.

But Pompeo, who became director of the CIA in January, added he was revitalizing the agency’s field missions.

“We are going to become a much more vicious agency,” he said.

I look at a big boy like Mr. Pompeo, and I think "he's all pomp," but he does helm(?) a sketchy bunch of jack-booted reactionaries. Yemeni wedding planners should be relieved to hear our CIA have been taking it easy, maybe not so relieved they're getting feistier...

On the bright side, when agents are vicious they usually $#@! up don't they? (Bay of Pigs, anyone?) His new orders could come back to bite some people in the ass.

The CIA is an organization that perpetually undermines traditional American values and moral values. It consistently kills innocent people. It continually causes instability and wars. It undermines other societies and our own. It interferes constantly in foreign nations, to the detriment of them and us. It is an unelected power that challenges elected officials. It favors abuses of power, including torture. Its actual value at generating usable intelligence is minimal, often wrong, often misleading, inaccurate and harmful as in the WMD that were never found in Iraq. It's another Government Agency that should've been abolished a long time ago.

What does that mean exactly... Bush/Obama era freedom initiatives like enhanced interrogations of peoples from countries of other races/drone strikes to take out families including underage colored children will be a ok again?

Any such policies would not be in line with the latest US military leadership direction:

US air force personnel told to treat everyone with dignity and respect
    September 29, 2017
"Just in case you're unclear on where I stand on this topic, I'm going to leave you my most important thought today: If you can't treat someone with dignity and respect, then you need to get out. If you can't treat someone from another gender, whether that's a man or a woman, with dignity and respect, then you need to get out. If you demean someone in any way, then you need to get out. And if you can't treat someone from another race, or different color skin, with dignity and respect, then you need to get out."

Or such agencies policies are not governed by the moral/ethical/freedom principles that other military branches are expected to follow in the Trump era?

CIA Gives More Power to Spies to Bolster Intelligence Operations

The Central Intelligence Agency under President Trump is giving more authority to field operatives and cutting excessive bureaucracy in a bid to boost intelligence operations, CIA Director Mike Pompeo says.

In his first news interview since taking charge of the agency in January, Pompeo also said he believes America's greatest long-term security challenge is the threat posed by China, not Russia. Excerpts of the interview can be found here.

During the wide-ranging interview on the sidelines of a security conference in Aspen, Colo., Pompeo revealed the CIA is preparing intelligence options for the president, including covert action, for use against North Korea in efforts to counter the threat of a future nuclear missile attack.

He also outlined how the CIA is stepping up counterintelligence programs against foreign spies and leaks of intelligence.

Other disclosures by the CIA chief included new details of North Korea's drive to develop reliable strategic nuclear missiles and a renewed CIA focus on stealing foreign secrets.

"Look, our primary mission is foreign intelligence," Pompeo told the Washington Free Beacon.

"That is at the core of what we do, and so the ability to go collect against the most difficult places, the most difficult targets in a way that is not one off, that is deep and robust and redundant, is something this agency is really good at when they are allowed to do it. And the president is going to go let us do it."

Similar to the Pentagon shift in giving military commanders greater authority to act in the field, the CIA is unleashing its spying power—clandestine operations, intelligence analysis, and technical prowess.

The CIA chief said decentralizing spying authority presents both risks and promise.

"In nearly every one of those cases it increases the risk level," he said. "It also greatly enhances the likelihood you'll achieve the outcome you're looking for."
Pompeo declined to say what role the CIA is playing in the administration's new effort to denuclearize North Korea.

"I can't talk about it," he said. "Having said that, I told you we created a mission center designed to address the threat from the North Korean government to the world and we are looking at every piece of the agency's operations, whether it's foreign intelligence collection, covert operations, the capacity to assist our brothers in arms at the DoD. We are preparing to make sure that when the president comes to us and says ‘We think we've hit the point where diplomacy no longer works' that we're prepared to deliver him a set of options that might well succeed in achieving whatever the policy objective is."

Trump gives CIA authority to conduct drone strikes:

President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency new authority to conduct drone attacks against suspected militants, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing U.S. officials.

The move would be a change from the policy of former President Barack Obama's administration of limiting the CIA's paramilitary role, the newspaper reported. (on.wsj.com/2mlgyS9)

The White House, the U.S. Department of Defense and the CIA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Obama had sought to influence global guidelines for the use of drone strikes as other nations began pursuing their own drone programs. (reut.rs/2nnaA51)

The United States was the first to use unmanned aircraft fitted with missiles to kill militant suspects in the years after the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

Strikes by missile-armed Predator and Reaper drones against oversea targets began under former President George W. Bush and were expanded by Obama.

Critics of the targeted killing program question whether the strikes create more militants than they kill. They cite the spread of jihadist organizations and militant attacks throughout the world as evidence that targeted killings may be exacerbating the problem.

In July, the U.S. government accepted responsibility for inadvertently killing up to 116 civilians in strikes in countries where America is not at war.

I think the main reason for putting the CIA technically in charge of the drone program is cover. They don't have to say who was target or who killed or what collateral damage occurred (like civilians killed). Also cuts down on having to ask for permission for an attack.

So instead of the "kind, honorable and respectable" policies they use now like: torture, kidnappings, renditions, drone bombings, assassinations, color revolutions, regimes changes, murder, support for totalitarian regimes, instigating wars, domestic propaganda, drug running, weapons running, smear campaigns, blackmail, agitprop, provocateurs, funneling weapons and money to terrorists, cartels, gangs, puppet regimes, puppet politicians, deep state coups, setups, patsies, .....
now the CIA is going to get more vicious. The world can hardly wait.

    RPI:

It goes without saying that one of the major worries on the average American’s mind is that the Central Intelligence Agency has gotten far too soft and cuddly lately, ...

Pompeo did not specify the ways in which the CIA will be increasing its woefully deficient amount of viciousness, so it’s unclear how it will be escalating its savagery beyond torture, assassinations, drug running, warmongering, manipulating elections and toppling governments around the world, spying on congressional legislators and lying about it under oath, conducting psyops on entire nations, illegal domestic espionage, Orwellian surveillance programs, infiltrating the media, drug-induced mind control experiments, and deliberately arming and training known terrorist factions. ...

the agency will finally be taking off the kid gloves and dispensing with cutesy little girl scout tactics like those employed by the Phoenix Program, an operation which involved in the kidnapping, torture, and murder of thousands upon thousands of Vietnamese civilians, its methods including the following:

Rape, gang rape, rape using eels, snakes, or hard objects, and rape followed by murder; electric shock (‘the Bell Telephone Hour’) rendered by attaching wires to the genitals or other sensitive parts of the body, like the tongue; the ‘water treatment’; the ‘airplane’ in which the prisoner’s arms were tied behind the back, and the rope looped over a hook on the ceiling, suspending the prisoner in midair, after which he or she was beaten; beatings with rubber hoses and whips; the use of police dogs to maul prisoners,

    and:

The use of the insertion of the 6-inch dowel into the canal of one of my detainee’s ears, and the tapping through the brain until dead. The starvation to death (in a cage), of a Vietnamese woman who was suspected of being part of the local political education cadre in one of the local villages…The use of electronic gear such as sealed telephones attached to…both the women’s vaginas and men’s testicles [to] shock them into submission. ...

Thank you, Mike Pompeo ... Lord knows if there’s one thing your agency needs, it’s more sociopathic bloodlust and brutality.

    Openly bragging about per-mediated murder.

Meanwhile in states like NJ, a slave would be arrested for shooting an intruder in his own home...
