AfD In 3rd Place In German Election Polls: Unhappy Political Marriages Loom

German federal elections are Sunday, September 24. The most likely outcome of the election is another “Grand Coalition” but it will be a much-weakened coalition. And If that coalition forms again, the rightwing AfD party is poised to become the largest opposition party.

    Unhappy Marriages

CDU (36) + FDP (22) would have a total percentage of about 58%. But many in SPD would prefer the SPD to be in opposition. Should that develop, SPD would be the largest opposition party.
If SDP chooses opposition, Merkel could form a majority government via an alliance of CDU (36), the Greens (7), and FDP (9). Currently, that alliance would have a bare majority with 52% of the vote.
Regardless of what happens, Merkel will be in a much-weakened position compared to now.
And other than a miracle CDU/FDP finish that achieves more than 50%, it may take quite some time after the election for the next government to form.

Well, it happened. Since the SPD has decided to go into opposition the casting about for a workable coalition begins. This should be fun to watch.

Germany election: Merkel wins fourth term, nationalists rise

Her conservative CDU/CSU bloc has seen its worst result in almost 70 years but will remain the largest in parliament.

Its current coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, says it will go into opposition after historic losses.

The nationalist AfD has won its first seats and is set to be the third party, a result that sparked some protests.

Dozens of demonstrators have gathered outside the right-wing, anti-Islam party's headquarters in Berlin, some with placards saying "Refugees are welcome".

Protests have also been held in Frankfurt and Cologne.

What does the result mean for Mrs Merkel?

While her alliance has remained the largest party, the numbers, if confirmed, are the worst result for the alliance between the Christian Democrat (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) since 1949, when national elections were held in Germany for the first time after World War Two.

    What are her coalition options?
The exit polls suggest the Social Democrats (SPD), led by Martin Schulz, also had its worst election result since 1949. He said the outcome meant the end of the "grand coalition" with Mrs Merkel's alliance.

"It's a difficult and bitter day for social democrats in Germany," Mr Schulz told supporters. "We haven't reached our objective."

With the possibility of an alliance with the SPD rejected, Mrs Merkel's options are narrow, and the process of forming a new coalition could take months.

The projections suggest that six parties will be in the German parliament for the first time since the 1950s.

The most likely scenario is of a "Jamaica" coalition, so-called because of the colours of Jamaica's flag. It includes the black CDU/CSU, the yellow, business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP) - who are returning to parliament after a four-year hiatus - and the Greens.

It is not a marriage made in heaven, as the Greens want to phase out 20 coal-fired power plants and the FDP disagree, but it is the only formation that would guarantee enough seats in the new Bundestag, German broadcaster ZDF says.

All parties have rejected working with the AfD.

Some here might disagree but I say the same thing I do for America: Immigration and Naturalization should be controlled for the benefit of the citizens.

No, it only needs to be controlled because we are giving away free $#@!.

If you have a free market, then immigration comes and goes naturally based on the demand for labor.

No, if you have a liberty oriented nation it will be more successful and attract people who only want the success and not the liberty, if you let too many in they will destroy your liberty.

The majority of immigrants in the 1800s went back to where they came from, which was MUCH more difficult and arduous back then.

There is no American libertarian narrative for Americans nor Europeans. We don't have political commissars. However, American libertarians generally agree our federal government's top down policy making is corrosive and schizophrenic. For example, many have come to agree that our federal government's cyclical establishment and destruction of strongman, puppet governments is accelerating destabilization in the Asian/African sphere, and an unequivocal END to our federal government's interventionism is long, long overdue.

You Europeans can thank our federal government and your own neo-colonial States for importing millions of displaced peasants into your territories. Here in the US, its the War on Drugs' corruption of governments and destruction of Central and South American economies driving immigration. In Europe, its our global War on Terror slamming you with immigrant peasants. There is no solution to this massacre, if the USG continue their jihad, only if we elect proven non-interventionists who will allow you guys to govern yourselves - as you will.

Your best bet is to escape the panopticon and get as rural as you possibly can.

One more thing, you should not listen to anybody romanticizing Europa. That dream is dead - you're awake now, it was just an exported American Dream. Also, don't listen to populists, because they're all the same - they'll loot you just the same as your other political parties have.

That makes no difference, a nation can't allow it's fate to be determined by random chance, liberty is not the natural state of man and it must be guarded against the forces of entropy.
