North Korea: Another Missile Launched Over Japan

The South Korean government responded by immediately convening a National Security Council meeting and by conducting a ballistic missile drill in the East Sea. Official reports from the South Korean joint chiefs of staff indicate the missile was fired from the same location, Sunan, and with a similar trajectory to the previous projectile to overfly Japan. The missile, which Japan did not attempt to intercept, splashed down in the Pacific Ocean 2000 km (1243 miles) east of Hokkaido.

Is that a film reference I don't get? Nippon is just an ordinal numeral in everyday Japanese-it means "second".

North Korea's Nuke Program Won't End Until 'Equilibrium of Real Force' Achieved
    https://sputniknews.com/news/2017091...program-force/

Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un promised
the Korea's People Army will continue refining its ballistic missile and nuclear deterrent capabilities
until Pyongyang can fully match the power of the US military.

Kim's other goal is to "make the US rulers dare not talk about military option for the DPRK."

Speaking during Friday's launch of a ballistic missile in Pyongyang, Kim said the Communist state
had nearly reached "the goal of completing its nuclear force" despite "limitless sanctions and blockade."

What if North Korea's actually closer to USG than to China, and USG are playing or provoking the regime to unify Korea on our terms, not on terms of those in the region? We've done $#@! like that throughout time, all over the globe. For example, we played both Chek and Mao. I can't help but think Kim Jong Un's our guy; we have the most to gain by stirring the pot, and not allowing Asia to govern themselves.

More about the recent N Korean nuke test:

South Korea call Kim's bluff, say no trace of fallout found.

OK, when the "free" press, USG, and Kim Jong Un are telling the same, $#@!ing story point-for-point, but S Korea's - you know, the people who will be doing the dying - saying "lol nope, no evidence $#@!s" then maybe - JUST MAYBE - the press, USG, and N Korea are working from the same script... I dunno.

I agree with Liu, let the processes of economic integration return and take their natural course. Trump and the Neocons are too eager to turn Korea into Trumplandia. The ROK better get real; the USG don't serve them. They have more to lose than anybody, by letting the Neocons unite Korea on Trotskyist terms.

Russia appears to have established an internet connection for North Korea, providing the regime with an alternative for the one set up by China - 38North
    https://www.38north.org/2017/10/mwilliams100117/

As the U.S. cracks down on North Korea, Russia is giving the rogue state a cyber lifeline.

Russian state-owned company TransTeleCom has provided a new internet connection to Kim Jong Un's regime,
according to North Korea monitoring project 38 North.
Cybersecurity experts have also confirmed the new Russian link.

The move strengthens North Korea's cybersecurity capabilities at a time of heightened tensions with the U.S. --
and also reduces its reliance on China.

Previously, North Korean internet traffic was funneled through one sole link, provided by Chinese telecommunications firm China Unicom, according to experts.
Now, it's got some backup from Russia.

That's significant at a time when the U.S. is ramping up pressure on Chinese companies to sever business ties with North Korea
over its missile and nuclear tests.

The new internet connection also boosts North Korea's cybersecurity strength.

"By increasing the number of internet connections in and out of the country, it increases its resilience to attacks,"
said Bryce Boland, cybersecurity expert with FireEye.

News of the Russian support comes after The Washington Post reported that the U.S. Cyber Command
carried out an operation attacking hackers affiliated with North Korea's military spy agency over the weekend.

With Russia involved in North Korea's internet, things could get more complicated.
Attacks against North Korean hackers or computer servers could now travel through Russia's internet infrastructure.

A U.S. attack on North Korea "could be seen as a provocative move against Russia," Boland said.
"That could potentially escalate tensions between the U.S. and Russia."

TransTeleCom is owned by Russia's state-run railway company
and has fiber optic cables that follow all the country's main train lines,
including all the way up to the North Korean border.

By providing internet traffic for Kim's regime, Russia gains more influence with Pyongyang
and the ability to peer into North Korean internet traffic.

    "It's a win-win for Russia," Boland said.

Meanwhile Rex Tillerson is supposed to be trying to get negotiations started by meeting with the Chinese. Trump earlier had tweeted that Tillerson was wasting his time. More "good cop/ bad cop"? Or poor execution of foreign policy?

Trump says 'only one thing will work' with nuclear-armed North Korea

President says Pyongyang ‘making fools of US negotiators’ for 25 years
Trump refuses to elaborate and criticises secretary of state again

Donald Trump on Saturday said “only one thing will work” in dealing with North Korea, after previous administrations had talked to Pyongyang without results.

Trump did not make clear to what he was referring. Amid rising tension and exchanges of insults with the nuclear-armed regime of Kim Jong-un, Trump has previously said the US will destroy North Korea if necessary to protect itself and its allies.

Later on Saturday, Trump spoke to reporters at the White House before he left for a fundraiser in South Carolina. Asked to clarify his cryptic “calm before the storm” remark earlier this week, which was made to reporters ushered into a dinner with military leaders, he said: “Nothing to clarify.”

Trump also repeated that he and the secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, had “a very good relationship”. Tillerson has been the target of criticism from the president about his attempts to talk to North Korea and to engage China to rein in Pyongyang.

Tillerson could be tougher, Trump said. He did not elaborate on what that meant.

It was reported this week that in a session with Trump’s national security team and cabinet officials at the Pentagon this summer, Tillerson openly criticized the president and called him a “$#@!ing moron”.
