Da masa weren't sending his slaves to die in endless war, they received ample food and medicine for their work, they weren't sacrificed to kings or cannibalized, they could think without an ideology, they were physically fit, they were taken care of if they were crippled, they were an actual protected class (private property). $#@! was tough farming rice in the swamps, but people in my own generation have phony degrees, and they can't even find work - let alone keep it. In the off seasons, they got to tend livestock or craft things, which they could sell in town for some profit. It was a step up from 17th and 18th centuries Africa in every practical way. The two party system, which is just a comedy of errors, the deep state, and their propaganda arm we're stuck with until it collapses are worse, because they condition us to think and do as slaves do, but they add the insult of promising we're free.
