Marist-NPR-PBS Poll: Majority of Americans don't want Confederate statues removed

In the wake of the violence in Charlottesville last weekend, many politicians and activists have called for statues honoring Confederate soldiers to be torn down. A new poll, however, shows that most Americans, including a plurality of African-Americans, don’t agree with efforts to tear down Confederate statues. According to a new poll conducted by Marist for NPR/PBS News Hour, 62 percent of Americans want the statues to stay where they are.

    Where's the, "I don't care unless it's my property " option???

defending confederate statues is a losing issue. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.

No. It's really not. Most Amerikans don't want them removed. And it shows how unhinged the left has become.

Clearly learning from the past, and maintaining a historic record so our posterity can do the same, is a losing proposition too. Not to mention honoring people who rose above the barbaric mores of their primitive times, and made decisions when there was no good choice to make.

I'm surprised the human race has lasted as long as it has.

Getting baited and forced into a narrative.

Divide and conquer works for a reason.

Crying about the desecration and removal of bronze and stone forms is about as silly as crying over the burning of a colorful piece of cloth. The more you cry, the more they burn.

It looks like millennials almost match the overall sentiment:

Do you think statues honoring leaders of the Confederacy should:

    Age group 18-29

    Remain as a historical symbol--60%
Be removed because they are offensive to some people--30%
    Unsure--11%
