Default Some interesting history of Charlottesville , VA

Charlottsville was the home of two Presidents , Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe . Both lived there while serving as Gov. of Va and traveled to Richmond on the Three Notched Road. President Madison was from about 25 miles Northeast of there . It was once the site of a Monacan Indian village in the Northern part . Some of these Monacan and descendants would later join the Cayuga and fight with the british against the colonists in the Revolution . At the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County there was a model of an ancient Monacan village , might still be there . On June 04 1781 Tarlentons NY Cavalry Dragoons of the British Legion raided the place hoping to catch the Legislature at Monticello . They narrowly escaped after being warned by Capt Jack Jouett of the 16th Va Militia . Only one Civil War battle was fought near there . A skirmish @ Rio Hill where Custers men did battle with the Home Guard . The Mayor surrendered the town to prevent damage . The first black church there was established in 1864 .Prior to that all black churches were illegal . The oldest Synagogue in Va still standing is there , built in 1882 . Charlottesville is 100 miles from DC and 70 from Richmond

Theye have erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

Theye have combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution,

For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:

Theye plundered and destroyed the lives of our people.

Theye are at this time transporting Armies of Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of a civilized nation.

There are some places everybody should see at least once . Most of them that come to mind to me are less civilized than there but I can certainly see why you like it .
