What makes a medium enherently good?

Is there a sort of inward ranking system or is it just based on the number of people who like or dislike this particular thing?

First off, being able to spell 'inherently' correctly is always a good thing.
There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.

But to your question. I assume you are referring to mediums of entertainment?

I would agree it's based on the marketplace. Whatever people are into.

Yes. Regarding whether or not the majority of customers or buyers enjoy it.

When I think of medium I think of some old lady in a head scarf reading fortunes . When I think of media I think of a food or nutrient source for bacteria being grown in a petri dish . When I was a kid I read dictionaries for fun in my daily detention before ball practice .

I would say, a medium's inherent (i, two e's) goodness is directly proportional to how convenient it is to leave it behind when a better medium comes along.

So, DVD's are good because they are so easy to rip into .avi files.
TV broadcast is horrible because it's already dead, but its zombie corpse is going to shuffle along for the next 30 years at least, until the last NBC Nightly News viewer finally dies.
There are no crimes against people.
There are only crimes against the state.
And the state will never, ever choose to hold accountable its agents, because a thing can not commit a crime against itself.
