No. Bitcoin has value because it is so easy to send anywhere in the world while avoiding centralized banks. Gold may be good to keep in a vault but it has an issue with ease of use online.

Who moved this thread? It was supposed to question if there's any relationship between physical gold and bitcoin. Now it won't get but a few views and only from the bitcoin crowd.

A bitcoin is always pictured as a gold coin and this morning CNBC commented on bitcoin briefly but both times they quickly (literally for a second) flashed a gold chart before switching to the bitcoin chart.

Interesting question. I would say no because a great deal of BTC current value is not based on anything related to Gold. Were BTC to crash, gold would not.

It could be chalked up to a glitch but I thought CNBC's quick flashings of gold chart before the bitcoin chart, even though gold was not part of the two discussions was very curious. It was almost like a signal. If there were a true decoupling between paper gold and physical gold, how would that be explained and conveyed in mass media? Or would another vehicle, like bitcoin, be used to signal the price of physical? A bitcoin that is always displayed as a gold coin...
