Currently in France. Don't see any terrorists yet...

Ok so only been here 3 days so I guess it's too early to say for sure. We landed in Nice and last year we drove through there only 3 days after that animal drove over all those people. We saw all the memorials in the street set up at each spot where someone died. It was very somber and I have no doubt that it happened somewhat like they say. Even though there are crazies out there who want to kill they really are a small number and for the most part they don't have the means to carry out huge events.

After France we are planning to travel through England and to Scotland. It's going to be a fast journey but we really want to see some part of Scotland having never been there...

    It's not. It's real.
It's just that the terrorism threat is totally different from what people believe.
Surely it is there but it is not worth losing your freedoms over. In order to not lose your freedoms, do not let people in that in general do not believe in those freedoms.

I'm joking. I believe it is real. My SIL was in Paris about a year ago for work said it was really bad. She showed me pics and it looked awful. Maybe they've cleaned it up since then.

I'd wear body armor and some of that chained medieval gorget around my neck. That's what I do when I have an assignment there, but I'm cautious by nature and training. Also, avoid crowds.

Avoiding crowds is what I do by nature but there are times when one cannot avoid. Situation awareness is the key. In Paris a year ago (and Brussels and elsewhere) it was surprising the number of immigrants and women wearing hajib. I think many of the immigrants are truly just trying to make a better life for themselves. I sure can't blame anyone for wanting to get out of those hell-holes but in among them are some radicalized crazies. The question is how to weed them out. I really think pork as a weapon against extremists could be useful. Imagine capturing some of them and forcing them into a cell coated with pork fat. Maybe that would make them think twice about bringing harm to innocent people...

Last night was a long drive from the beach to Paris for an overnight. Since we've seen Paris a couple of times (and we are leaving from there) we wanted to get further North so today we drove from there to Calais where we drove our car onto the train for a quick trip through the Chunnel and to Jolly ole England (Our Motherland!!!). Driving onto a train car is pretty interesting and the process is pretty quick. Continued driving to Liverpool for another overnight and on to Edinburgh. We will take a quick look around Liverpool in the morning to see some Beatles stuff before heading out.

We did see a lot of immigrants hanging out on some streets along the way but don't know if any of them are "terrorists"...

Oh man, when I was in Florence, no terrorists, but there were Bantu hawkers everywhere. I was told by a couple Italians they don't hang around for long, just long enough to get some cash for "expenses", before fleeing north into Germany and as far as Sweden. Mostly Germany, though. So the blacks are all transitory, but I hear the Chinese in Italy never budge. Chinese expats have always been smart that way, I admire their trusting and sustaining their identities.

Yes, I do believe there are some bad ones that want to harm people but I believe the media and the goonerment like to blow all dangers out of proportion so that they can claim to save the day and show how much we need them. Truth is, if there were no goonerment people would be free to defend themselves by any an every means and the problem would be solved...

Now at CDG waiting for our flight home and now I see why we didn't see the terrorists. They are in Barcelona. It's sad that people are alive who want to kill indiscriminately...

When in London the first stop was at the balcony of Julian Assange. There were a couple of supporters across the street (cop restriction) and I had a bit of a chat with them. We hit it off right away since we had something in common (our support of Assange). Of course Julian doesn't come to the window except for to make announcements so I did not see him but it was interesting to stand at the foot of the balcony. The goon presence is gone due to public protest at the cost of having goons there 24/7 but you can be assured they still have the place watched by cameras with goons nearby ready to pounce if someone unusual comes out of there. Still, after watching mission impossible all my life I don't see why Julian hasn't been able to sneak out of there somehow. Seems a courier could show up with a delivery and Julian could exit as the courier and jump in a private jet out of dodge... That English channel is only some 20 miles across and a fishing boat could get him to France or even out into international waters in a very short time. Hell, maybe he's already out of there and the stupid lymies don't even know it!

Ramblings about this latest trip to Europe...

I guess the country I like best in Europe is France mainly for the beaches and their freedom from clothes there (who woulda thunk it??). I really don't like all the socialism in Europe and that seems to be a disease they are not likely to be cured of any time soon. I don't like the high cost of auto ownership. I have been leasing a car for the last 3 years when we travel to Europe (only a 3 week lease but it's still technically "my" car for those weeks) and it's way more expensive to have a vehicle in Europe than in the USA. The fuel is about 1.3 euros per liter which is about 3 times what we pay for fuel here. Most freeways there are toll roads and in France it's about $10 euros per hour of driving. There are exceptions such as Germany with the beautiful Autobahn that has no tolls (at least from my limited travels there) and of course no speed limit in the rural areas. Because of the high cost of ownership you will find there are very few pickup trucks in Europe (and China as well). Camping is pretty big in Europe but most people pull a small trailer behind the family car or have a compact van type of motor home. Last year I visited a friend in Germany who gave me a ride in his super fast Porsche on the Autobahn (we got to 170 mph) and he showed me the "registration" paperwork on his highly modified Porsche. It was several pages long and EVERY modification from stock had to be listed on it or he would face huge fines and maybe confiscation. Even things like the modified shifter and race seats had to be listed. And I'm about to pick up my H3 with and LS3 495 hp engine in it (more on that in another post) which I don't even have to list on my registration papers...

I got to drive on the left side for my first time this trip when we went to England and Scotland. It wasn't as hard as I'd expected it was going to be and now that I've done it I'd tell others to not worry. Use reasonable caution and think about your driving and it shouldn't be a problem. With all the goings on here about Civil War monuments I noted that at the castle in Edinburgh there were prominent monuments and statues of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. These were considered traitors to the King yet they stand tall in spite of the Queen of England claiming Scotland. If the Queen wanted them torn down I know the Scots wouldn't like it much...

Near Paris we went to see the French palace at Versailles. This thing is so big there's no way you can view everything even if you have a week. When I see things like this and the terracotta warriors or other past monuments to kings I see exactly why the PEOPLE had nothing to eat. All the wealth of the people was stolen to make these great monuments and it's no wonder the people of France had no food. The King was stealing all the wealth for his palaces. It's the same throughout history. The goons take all the wealth for themselves and leave the little people to starve. We have had the greatest movement of liberty in our lifetimes and it's all going to hell in a hand-basket very quickly. It seems people don't learn from history at all. I see this very clearly when I visit these old palaces but I suspect few others see it in the same light.
