Default Jeff Deist: Should Libertarians Care about the Constitution?

    Published on Jul 21, 2017
Lysander Spooner called it "The Constitution of no authority." Conservatives fetishize it, but don't follow it. Progressives want it annulled. So, what should libertarians think about America's founding document?

Our guests Brion McClanahan and Allen Mendenhall give us the unadulterated history and unpleasant truths about constitutionalismóbut also consider its underappreciated benefits. This is a discussion of the Constitution you won't hear anywhere else.

It's an imperfect but nonetheless praiseworthy expression of liberal ethics.

It's not the foundation of liberal ethics.

Where liberal ethics and the Constitution diverge, the former prevails.

Practically speaking, reverence for the Constitution is something to be encouraged, for electoral reasons.
