India's Modi to sleep in Trump’s bed in Israel

    By Greer Fay Cashman

After the big bear hug that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave US President Donald Trump in Washington this week, the news is that he will be the next occupant of Trump’s bed – well, not exactly. When Modi arrives in Jerusalem next week, he will be given the same luxury suite at the King David Hotel that Trump stayed in during his visit.

Arrangements for Modi’s visit have been more strenuous than for Trump’s, but without some of the restrictions.

For instance, during Trump's visit, the entire hotel was cleared of guests who were not a part of the presidential delegation. But for Modi's visit, only the upper floors and the parking area had to be vacated.

The lobby of the hotel had to be sterile when Trump entered – no red carpet, no welcoming committee. On the other hand, Modi and his delegation will be welcomed with pomp and ceremony

Recent news cycles seems to have many strange and ironic headlines.
Or maybe investigating news through google search outside of MSM topics is bound to create controversial narratives.

Amnesty urges PM Narendra Modi to raise issue of rights violation with US

    Jun 26, 2017
NEW DELHI: Ahead of his meeting with President Donald Trump, Amnesty International has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising concern over human rights violations in the US.
As an ally of the United States, India has a responsibility to raise concern over human rights violations, the international rights watchdog said in a letter dated June 24 to the prime minister, urging him to take up the matter with the representatives of the US government.
It also appealed to the prime minister to talk to his US counterpart and raise the issue of accountability of Dow Chemical and Union Carbide Corporation towards the victims and survivors of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

Made for each other: sheer ambition underlines Modi's bromance with Netanyahu

Both face the electorate's verdict in the coming weeks and need to appear powerful on the world stage

    Feb 14, 2019

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New Delhi in January 2018. Prakash Singh / AFP

Had all gone to plan, Benjamin Netanyahu and Narendra Modi might have met in India this week and furthered a bizarre narrative. It is one that tells of a so-called bromance that mirrors the increasingly urgent relationship between their countries.
In the past two years, the Israeli and Indian prime ministers have found striking new ways to declare their “deepest friendship”.

Two years ago, it took the form of the two leaders companionably dipping their toes in the Mediterranean, off a beach in Israel. Last year, it involved Mr Modi providing instruction to Mr Netanyahu on how to fly a kite in the Indian skies.
Had Mr Netanyahu’s India trip this month materialised, the two men would surely have exchanged fulsome greetings on Twitter in Hindi and in Hebrew, just as they have done before, using warm words and gestures to underline an indispensable, long-standing relationship.
But is this even true? India and Israel have maintained a distance for the greater part of their existence as independent nations. They have only had formal diplomatic relations for 27 years. The relationship first failed to take off when newly independent India voting against the November 1947 United Nations Palestine partition plan, which established the Jewish state.
When India officially recognised Israel in 1950, it was done begrudgingly. India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru acknowledged that recognition was granted only because “Israel is a fact”.
Decades of Indian reserve towards Israel followed. Although it’s often described as principled support for the post-colonial Arab world and the Palestinians, that is only part of the story.
As Nehru said in his response to Albert Einstein’s appeal for India to support the Zionist cause, national leaders have to “unfortunately” pursue policies that are “essentially selfish…each country thinks of its own interest first”.
At the time, India’s self-interest lay in maintaining harmony at home, not least by taking into account the sentiments of its large Muslim minority. As a fledgling nation, India was keen not to antagonise other countries and to maintain ties with Arab allies. Things began to change in the 1980s, when the Indian and Israeli militaries started to build a relationship.

Hitler’s Hindus: The Rise and Rise of India’s Nazi-loving Nationalists

The ‘Hitler’s Den’ pool parlor that shocked me on a round-India trip 10 years ago was no outlier. Admiration for Nazism – often reframed with a genocidal hatred for Muslims – is rampant in the Hindu nationalist camp, which has never been as mainstream as it is now

Not a Nazi: The traditional Hindu swastika, seen here on a temple worshipper's shaven head, sits squarely on one of its 'wings' unlike the Nazi symbolRiyaz Shaik / Madras Courier In 2004, when now-Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, school textbooks published by the Gujarat State Board portrayed Hitler as a hero, and glorifyied fascism. The tenth-grade social studies textbook had chapters entitled "Hitler, the Supremo," and "Internal Achievements of Nazism." The section on the "Ideology of Nazism" reads:

"Mein Kampf" on sale at Mumbai international airport, December 2017.Shrenik Rao / Madras Courier Mein Kampf has also gone mainstream, becoming a "must-read" management strategy book for India’s business school students. Professors teaching strategy lecture about how a short, depressed man in prison made a goal of taking over the world and built a strategy to achieve it.

This infamous polemic remains a money-spinner for publishers. English-language editions of Mein Kampf are published by a number of reputable Indian publishing houses, such as Jaico, Printline, Indialog, Maple Press, Mastermind, Prakash, Om Books, Rohan, Adarsh, Ajay, Embassy, Lexicon and Wilco.

Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, has been accused of “interfering” in the next US presidential election after he gave a speech in Texas that critics say tacitly endorsed Donald Trump for re-election in 2020.
Mr Modi made the comments as he appeared onstage alongside the US president during a rally in Houston on Sunday, which was attended by more than 50,000 members of the Indian diaspora.

Indian man who fasted for four days ‘to pray for Trump’s coronavirus recovery’ dies of cardiac arrest

    Mon, October 12, 2020

Trump has a keen following in India, particularly among supporters of prime minister Narendra Modi (Getty)A 38-year-old man from the Indian state of Telangana has died after fasting for four days to pray for Donald Trump’s recovery from Covid-19.

According to his family, Bussa Krishna Raju worshipped the US president like a god, and was shocked and disturbed to find out about his coronavirus diagnosis.

Mr Raju refused food and started praying for Mr Trump’s recovery when he found out about his infection last week. Mr Trump tested positive on Thursday 1 October, and was treated at the Walter Reed Medical Center for several days.
Mr Raju’s family told the Times of India that he collapsed on Sunday while having tea at his relative’s residence in the village of Toopran in Medak district. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
A close family member told the Times of India: "He was upset when he learnt about Trump testing positive for coronavirus. He spent sleepless nights, starved and prayed for the US president's recovery for the past three-four days. He died of cardiac arrest today around noon."
