Could you be a payday loan salesman?

    https://mises.org/library/defense-payday-lending

There is a link to Mises describing the virtues of the pay day loan industry. I have no qualms with keeping the government out of the business. However, I have to ask, could you be a good salesman for those types of loans? Imagine you were presented with an opportunity to work for a payday loan company and it was your absolute *job* to sell these loans. Could you do that? Because to me, they seem like a bad idea. And I don't know if I could have the heart to actually have to actively persuade somebody to take out one of these loans. I mean, sure, I can think of a few narrow scenarios...but in reality, it seems like the wise advice is to save your money if at all possible and not take out the loan.

What do you think? Could you do that job?

Hell no. Interest banking is the one institution that rivals government on the evil scale. Being in debt is objectively bad.

The biggest thing that annoys me about some libertarians, is how they think anything that isn't literally done at the force of a gun is somehow good. Things like being in debt or being a prostitute are not natural healthy parts of life.

It is not "chronic borrowing" that we should fear, but chronic government coercion that presents the greatest threat to economic efficiency, private property, and individual liberty
Bull$#@!, as individuals we should fear and stay the hell away from both.

Naw, I couldn't in good conscience be in that business. Though, decades ago I had to use one and was glad it was there even at the price it cost. I could be a pawn broker though.

No . I have no real problem with people collecting interest but I could not be involved in interest that was in the level of the avg credit card , pay day loan etc . I pay 4 percent on one mortgage, the other 3 are pd off , my last truck loan was 5 percent at the credit union , it is pd for and I will likely not have another . At my age owing people money and high interest seems not wise .
    Do something Danke

The OP is about payday loans, not banking. Totally different things.

They're not necessarily "good", they're just not "bad" enough to warrant being illegal. I don't know of anyone who claimed otherwise.

If you're already uncomfortable, then you probably already have your answer. I couldn't really do it. It's not even really a good job at all. It's not like there aren't a million other jobs out there. To each his own though. If somebody wants to use it, then it's not the gov's job to interfere at all.
