    Venezuela Is Starving

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/venezue...ing-1493995317

Once Latin America’s richest country, Venezuela can no longer feed its people, hobbled by the nationalization of farms as well as price and currency controls

Hordes of people, many with children in tow, rummage through garbage, an uncommon sight a year ago. People in the countryside pick farms clean at night, stealing everything from fruits hanging on trees to pumpkins on the ground, adding to the misery of farmers hurt by shortages of seed and fertilizer. Looters target food stores. Families padlock their refrigerators.

Three in four Venezuelans said they had lost weight last year, an average of 19 pounds, according to the National Poll of Living Conditions, an annual study by social scientists. People here, in a mix of rage and humor, call it the Maduro diet after President Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela's Socialist Hellscape, Captured in 28 Horrifying Headlines

    Daniel J. Mitchell

    Monday, May 01, 2017

Iwrote last year that Venezuela was entering the “fourth circle of statist hell.”

How else, after all, can you describe a government that is so venal and incompetent that it resorts to confiscating toys in an effort to strengthen its hold on power?

I also wrote last year that Atlas was “shrugging” in Venezuela.

But shrugging may soon turn to shrugged. It’s hard to see how Maduro’s despotic regime can hold power much longer. Consider this collection of horrifying stories.

Partisan politics, misleading or emotional bill titles, and 4D chess theories are manifestations of the same lie—that the text of the Constitution, the text of legislation, and plain facts do not matter; what matters is what you want to believe. From this comes hypocrisy. And where hypocrisy thrives, virtue recedes. Without virtue, liberty dies. - Justin Amash, March 2018

Sadly, the politicians of that state didn't think more about having more than just one industry for profit.

Why should they? Profit is for greedy narcissists, after all.

According to you, the needs of parasitic moochers reign supreme.

Venezuela embodies the ideal for which you yearn. Own it or STFU.

You are stupid. All you think is somehow one commodity, that being the life blood of modern society is social democracy or socialist policies. Socialist policies are about taking the nastiness out of business, that goes unfettered in certain circles in capitalist society.

Venezuela was run by a dictator who rallied the poor. He had a bad way of governing, and solely used crude oil to make money to pay for the social programs. It was short sighted. Don't be stupid, one country out there doesn't represent social democracy.

Chavez came from poverty, both his parents were poor. He was ignorant about diversity in the state.

As for the Libetarian conference, you couldn't defend it. It was ridiculous full of stupid people, who couldn't take people's lives seriously.

The problem isn't that the economy the Venezuelan state attempts to centrally plan relies largely on oil.

The problem is that the Venezuelan state attempts to centrally plan the economy at all.

The result would have been the same had the Venezuelan economy been highly diversified.

Hm, total pop (2015) 31.1 million, cost to feed a refugee $19/month = $7.09 billion to feed all Venezuelans per year.

Daughter of Hugo Chavez net worth, $4.2 billion, according to Diaro las Americas.
Alejandro Andrade - Venezuela's ex treasury minister - $11.2 billion.
The rest of the socialist leadership worth ??? billion?
GDP in 2017: 404.1 Billion (Wikipedia)
    Exports: $28.07 billion. (Wikipedia)

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, defying a threat of U.S. sanctions and calls by his opponents for two days of general strikes this week, vowed to press on with a vote to elect a new national assembly and rewrite the constitution.

“Who doesn’t go vote next Sunday is hurting the Republic of Venezuela, is hurting the right for peace, because what we are deciding here next week is between peace or war, violence or the constituent assembly,” according to a statement issued Sunday.

Maduro reinforced his determination to hold the July 30 vote after Venezuela’s opposition party called for a 48-hour general strike in Caracas Wednesday and Thursday.

We're being governed ruled by a geriatric Alzheimer patient/puppet whose strings are being pulled by an elitist oligarchy who believe they can manage the world... imagine the utter maniacal, sociopathic hubris!

Venezuela is overrated. How can they have huge and open mass protests and still hold up as a nation. That means the opposition support isn't what they make it out to be. Must be fake news or alternative facts.

I read a story about the conditions in Venezuela and it turns out people are so hungry that they are storming locals zoos to eat the animals. In another story, anti Maduro insurgents burned down a full storage depot. It is weird how $#@! is hitting the fan so hard that in the same country, you would have people burning down food depots, destroying oil tankers and at the same time so hungry that they resort to stealing from zoos.

Something is very off here and I am not talking about their mixed economy system.
