Finding common ground in faith: A reflection on religious life in America

Where do religion and politics intersect? In honor of Easter and Passover, John Dickerson discusses faith in our time with Rod Dreher, Russell Moore, Abigail Pogrebin and Father James Martin.

It's always a sign of either ignorance or propaganda when someone claims that the United States was founded as a "Judeo-Christian" nation. That marketing term was not even created until the 20th century. If there was a term to be used as to the religious nature of the US at it's founding, it would be Protestant Christian. As of today, if religion and politics were to be combined into a general term, the US would best be described as a Judeo-Catholic nation.

That title given by Face the Nation has nothing to do with the actual content. There is nothing about "common ground", it's more about special interests and lobbys that influence US politics.

The first 6 minutes are about religion, the rest is about religion influencing politics.

Kind of funny that the Eastern Orthodox and Evangelical basically want freedom from PC oppression, and use LGBT as an example. I.e. their freedom to exclude LGBT. The Jesuit spokesman for the Pope contradicts that to say that the previously oppressed LGBT community should be protected. So much for common ground among some of the Christians. The woman representing the Jewish faith/community says that if they all just focus on their "shared" documents, there can be common ground (I.e. Focus on Old Testament, just throw that New Testament out the window). She also talks about support for Israel no matter what, which leads directly to US foreign policy.

As usual, mainline Protestants don't get a seat at the table.

I'm gonna wait for some others to share their thoughts before I do. Mainly because I know that some christians here reject our founding documents and some other stuff. Well, the founders themselves, actually.
