Antibiotic Drugs in America’s Meat Supply: Worst Offenders in Restaurant Industry

We need more consumer groups like this. Use the market place to put pressure on offenders, and reward the restaurants who are concerned about issues like this.

We could absolutely abolish the corrupt FDA which currently takes no punitive actions against antibiotic over-use. (Antibiotic Resistant Diseases? Blame the FDA and Their Protection of Big Pharma in Animal Feeds)

Antibiotic Drugs in America’s Meat Supply: Scorecard Rates Worst Offenders in Restaurant Industry

A stunning 70 percent of all antibiotics important in human medicine in the U.S. are sold for use in animal agriculture. These lifesaving drugs are fed routinely to animals that are not sick in order to promote growth and prevent diseases that spread easily in crowded, filthy factory farm conditions. Public health agencies have declared antibiotic resistance a top health threat in the U.S. -- and the rampant misuse of antibiotics in livestock production is a major cause.

Chain Reaction II is the second annual report and scorecard that grades America’s top restaurant chains’ on their policies and practices regarding antibiotics use and transparency in their meat and poultry supply chains.

The good news is that consumer and investor pressure has pushed twice as many companies as last year to create more responsible antibiotics policies, particularly for chicken. The bad news is that Olive Garden, KFC and 14 other chains received F grades and little progress has been made on pork and beef.

Only two restaurant chains received an A grade: Chipotle and Panera.

Read the 2016 scorecard to see how restaurants fared.

If Americans had true choices, the free market would allow the healthy food establishments to flourish, and the junk food ones would fail.

But there is only an illusion of choice, because the government supports the junk food industry in many ways, including stealing tax payers' money to support Big Ag and keep commodity food prices artificially low.

Today poor Americans on food stamps can get their dollars to go further and buy more food from fast food burger joints than by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables in the produce section of grocery stores.

I still remember the day, back in the 1960s and early 1970s before beef became such a large commodity item, when eating out at McDonald's was a treat, because it definitely cost more to eat out than to eat at home.

The growth of the fast food junk food industry is NOT a result of market forces, but government planning.

Yes that is the sad reality. One reason to buy from Organic/Free Range local ranchers and farmers and keep them in business. Make most of your food at home like your life depends on it, because it really does.
