Action Alert: Rep. Rohrabacher Introduces 'Respect State Marijuana Laws Act'

    http://townhall.com/tipsheet/christi...s-act-n2283272

During the Obama administration, eight states, plus the District of Columbia, legalized marijuana for recreational purposes. Dozens more passed laws regarding marijuana use for medicinal purposes. Obama's DOJ generally agreed to a hands off policy regarding states that have voted to legalize recreational marijuana. With the new administration, there is considerable stress about whether or not these policies will still be in place. This is true both for medical marijuana patients as well as for people whose livelihoods are in the cannabis industry.

Enter Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), a medical marijuana patient himself, who introduced the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act on Wednesday to the House of Representatives. The bill would protect people from being prosecuted under the Controlled Substances Act as long as they are following their particular state's laws regarding marijuana.

Rohrabacher has introduced the bill before, in 2015 and in 2013. In 2015, a bipartisan group of representatives joined Rohrabacher in co-sponsoring the bill.

About sixty percent of people support legalizing marijuana in the United States.

Well, If Trump does support States rights, and leaves it up to the states, then hopefully he will sign this bill into law.

We should imprison violent drug dealers and those that try to cause harm.

However herbs and medicines originally were freely administered by Shamans and those that needed it.

I think that if herbs and certain plants are used responsibly, then there should be no problems.

Now if somebody high on drugs starts causing car accidents and things like that, well even common law courts would have a case filed against the culprit. Whether your a fan of common law, or statutory law, balancing it with freedom/liberty, well as long as you don't harm somebody or their property, you should not ever be prosecuted.

There usually needs to be an injured party for a crime to have occurred. The crime can involve adults, children, property, etc etc. If somebody is just doing some medicinal herbs or plants, then there is no injury to anybody unless you cause a DUI.

What are the chances the an act, requiring the federal government to follow the constitution, will be passed as law? I prediction is that Jeff Sessions will influence Trump to veto if the bill gets to his desk.

When's the last time you heard of a violent moonshiner or bootlegger? Right. You haven't. It's prohibition that creates the violence in the business of whatever is being sold and not the other way around.

Weak. End the prohibitions and the wasteful spending that goes along with it.

ah, well considering that recent polls show that 71% think that the states should decide their own policy on marijuana yes
it's purely survival on the part of the "CSs"

Polling: Voters Support Marijuana Law Reform By Record Numbers

    http://blog.norml.org/2017/02/23/pol...ecord-numbers/

Record numbers of voters support regulating the marijuana market and oppose federal efforts to interfere or undermine state laws permitting the plant’s use or sale, according to nationwide polling data released today by Quinnipiac University.

Ninety-three percent of voters — including 96 percent of Democrats and 85 percent of Republicans — support “allowing adults to legally use marijuana for medical purposes,” the highest total ever reported in a national poll. Among those respondents older than 65 years of age, 92 percent endorsed legalizing medical marijuana.

Fifty-nine percent of voters similarly support making the adult use of marijuana legal in the United States. That total is in line with recent polling data compiled by Gallup in 2016 which reported that 60 percent of US adults support legalization — a historic high. Respondents who identified as Democrats (72 percent) were most likely to support legalization. Fifty-eight percent of Independents also expressed support, but only 35 percent of Republicans did so. Among the various age groups polled, only those over the age of 65 failed to express majority support for legalization.

Finally, 71 percent of respondents say that they “oppose the government enforcing federal laws against marijuana in states that have already legalized medical or recreational marijuana.” This percentage is the highest level of support ever reported with regard to limiting the federal government from interfering in states’ marijuana policies.

The rising support may provide a boost for pending federal legislation, HR 975: The Respect State Marijuana Laws Act, which prevents the federal government from criminally prosecuting individuals and/or businesses who are engaging in state-sanctioned activities specific to the possession, use, production, and distribution of marijuana. You can urge your members of Congress to support this act by clicking here.

The Quinnipiac University poll possesses a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
