I WANT GORSUCH but think it will be Hardiman. Trump's sister wants Hardiman and I think Trump will listen to sister. hardiman is pro 2nd amendment but also super pro cop. he believes that citizens dont have the right to video tape cops. gorsuch is an originalist. he believes in state power over federal and is super pro religous rights

  13. #11
I expect it to be Hardiman.

The main reason is because Hardiman is very pro-cop. And that fits right in with Trump's law and order platform.

Hardiman ruled that we have no 1st Amendment right to video record police, and has also ruled that a policy of strip searching everyone who gets arrested is not unreasonable search and seizure.

He's also the least like Scalia of the three on Trump's shortlist, according to a metric that was cited on the Volokh Conspiracy.

Trump wants to satisfy the demands of conservatives, after promising to nominate someone in Scalia's mold. But he wants to do so just barely, and to get someone as little like Scalia as possible, while still making the cut.

Exactly. And that's exactly what Trump wants more than anything else.

Apparently Trump was strongly considering Nap; but ultimately decided to stick to the list of 12 (19?) judges he published during the campaign.

Maybe Nap can get in there next time after RBGinsburg dies.

For what it's worth, FAUX is reporting that they are hearing from several "sources" that it is Gorsuch.

I'd be thankful to get gorsuch; I suspect hardiman and I'd be disappointed on a civil liberties level

I don't think any of the others are even in consideration at this time

business insider seems to think hardiman

I'm more interested in whether or not something is going on right now that this is being used to distract from.

Donald Trump Is Treating His Supreme Court Decision Like ‘Celebrity Apprentice’

The two judges in the running are headed to the capital.

    01/31/2017 02:23 pm ET | Updated 1 minute ago
Cristian Farias Legal Affairs Reporter, The Huffington Post

In a move that should surprise no one, President Donald Trump is reportedly bringing the two expected finalists for Justice Antonin Scalia’s Supreme Court seat to Washington to create a sense of intrigue ahead of Tuesday’s primetime reveal.

Or “to build suspense,” as CNN’s Pamela Brown put it in her report on Tuesday.

“This is all an extraordinary measure ... to keep the selection private ahead of tonight’s announcement,” Brown said of what increasingly looks like a piece of political theater.

Finalists Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman
― both of whom are highly respected in conservative circles ― are either in Washington or en route for the 8 p.m. announcement, according to CNN. Trump has already said he’s made his choice. So is the purpose of this arrangement to give the president one last sit-down with the nominee just to make sure?

Under normal circumstances, a president’s choice for the Supreme Court is shrouded in secrecy. The chief executive meets with the candidates in the days leading up to the nomination and may not make a decision until moments before the announcement.

But there’s no precedent for this kind of spectacle, and no apparent reason for bringing both candidates to town for the announcement. The White House has announced the event will be broadcast live on Facebook.

Some observers have compared the former “Apprentice” star’s theatrics to another popular reality show:
    Tonight! #SCOTUS pic.twitter.com/dNsOBWLuwA
    — Supreme Court Places (@SCOTUSPlaces) January 31, 2017
The next Supreme Court justice will have big shoes to fill ― Trump’s promise to nominate someone in Scalia’s mold may have helped propel him to victory. But this latest development suggests the president and those in his circle may not be taking the process as seriously as they should be, and reflects poorly on the presidency, the high court and the two candidates.

Will Trump make Gorsuch and Hardiman stand in front of live cameras so he can choose one and dismiss the other, for all America to see? For the sake of the institution ― which could be a big check on his presidency ― God forbid.

With you on this one. It's very difficult to predict what his moves will be. The only thing it seems possible to predict is that if you insult him, he'll take to Twitter to vent; outside of that, it's like trying to predict heads or tails.

    From IJR:

Two high-ranking administration sources have confirmed to Independent Journal Review that President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick is Colorado Judge Neil Gorsuch.
Gorsuch, who recently traveled to Washington, D.C., was put on Trump’s short list for the appointment after he met with the then-president elect after the 2016 election.
Speaking on background, an administration source instrumental to the SCOTUS selection process tells IJR, “Yes. It is Gorsuch. 100 percent. The Hardiman thing is a head fake.” Thomas Hardiman is the other Judge Trump was considering for the vacancy, who is also in Washington, D.C.
A second source within the Trump administration confirmed IJR’s reporting.
Judge Gorsuch will join the president tonight at the White House for the announcement.
Gorsuch, at the age of 49, will become one of the youngest SCOTUS appointments in history. Gorsuch reportedly cried when he found out about Justice Scalia’s death. The Colorado native attended Harvard Law with former President Barack Obama.
