I voted yes because technically I use it, but it's not under my name.
I got online for the first time in 1993, and from the get-go, even back then, it never occurred to me, not once, to use my real name.

    Use it?

I have it. Don't use it much.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Also, you can opt out of and disable Google+ now, too. Which you couldn't do previously. Just have to go into the disable services settings and do it.

I do. It's a way to keep in touch with my very large family. I don't post much, though.

It sucks that it's a spy tool. I would really have fun on it if it weren't.

    Yes

I don't like to admit it, but it's very good at organizing people for local political purposes. There was a local zoning issue in my town recently and if it wasn't for facebook, it would have been very difficult to inform others and organize them to stop it.

That too, plus I had heard rumors on internets that Hillary's campaign chief Podesta had online apps that were also used by someone else

    Not anymore.

I spent two years on it and left after the "wall" and settings started changing without notice or any approval, and of course from what the good folks here made known to me. Thank you!

I've got loads of family and "friends" on it, and in those two years I can honestly say lowering the bar on a "social platform" really brings out the stupid and vanilla in people. Bunch of P.C. herding, appealing to the worst in folks. MMmmm wurst.

    Maybe things have changed... lol

I use it because of my position in a couple of organizations - Exec Committee of the Libertarian party of Texas which loves FB and another political organization and because I am an author. My experience is that it proves what I have said previously - Before the Internet was invented, people had to think of ways to waste time.
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

It appears its use could take a hit:

Cambridge Analytica’s use of Facebook data was a ‘grossly unethical experiment’

The personal information of more than 50 million users was misused

By Andrew Liptak Mar 18, 2018

On Friday, Facebook announced that it had suspended Strategic Communication Laboratories (SCL) and its political data analytics company, Cambridge Analytica, for violating its Terms of Service, by collecting and sharing the personal information of up to 50 million users without their consent. The incident is demonstrative of ways that Facebook’s core business model — delivering individualized ads to users — can be exploited, while raising uncomfortable questions about how such data might have been used to influence the 2016 presidential campaign.

Cambridge Analytica is owned in part by hedge fund billionaire Richard Mercer, and first aided Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign in 2015, before helping the Trump campaign in 2016. It promised to target voters’ “unconscious psychological biases,” by using massive amounts of data develop personality profiles, which could then be used to create extremely specific ads. According to Vox, the Trump campaign brought Cambridge Analytica on in June 2016 to help with its digital operations, headed up by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The campaign later named Steve Bannon — a former vice presidents of Cambridge Analytica — as campaign manager. Cambridge Analytica employee Christopher Wylie recently passed information to The Observer and described the company’s work as a “grossly unethical experiment,” and said that they exploited Facebook to harvest the personal information of millions of people and “built models to exploit what we knew about them and target their inner demons.”

Facebook value drops by $37bn amid privacy backlash

Facebook's shares have fallen sharply, wiping $37bn off the firm's value, as it faces questions from US and UK politicians about its privacy rules.

The social network is under fire after reports on how Cambridge Analytica, which some believe helped Donald Trump win the US election, acquired and used Facebook's customer information.

Theresa May's spokesman called the allegations "very concerning".
The UK data protection body is seeking a warrant to search the firm's offices.

Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham says it will be used to look at the databases and servers used by British data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.
