The local township decided to investigate a variety of semi trailers, shipping containers and the like. Everyone with one on their property was given a copy of the zoning rules in June. The rules state unless they're on property zoned Agriculture and being used for them, or are a tool shed for current construction, they are not allowed. The local zoning enforcement officer told everyone the township would be looking into if anyone was in compliance.
This week 3 business owners in the township were given arrest warrants. Luckily the local PD found out and contacted each to bond out without anyone going to jail. None of the 3 business owners had received any further notice from the township, nothing with a date on when their trailer or container had to be removed, no court summons, no further letter. Instant arrest warrant. The local Deputy who has worked the township for years said he's never seen anything like this happen before.
The Ag trailers were found to be all right. A few construction containers were allowed.
I was shocked that a zoning administrator had this sort of power.
The court hearing is later this month, the entire community is waiting to see what happens next.
Has anyone else had this sort of thing happen in their area?
